I said a lot to Taylor that day. A lot that I knew would never make it into this news piece. I told her that this isn't a "feel-good" story. This is a symptom of decaying Capitalism, 40 years Neo-Liberal/austerity politics and systemic/institutional racism. I added that, if she wants a real "feel-good story" to interview the Black Mothers in the neighborhood who raised children here in the 80s and 90s while the FBI AND LAPD distributed crack-cocaine, destroying families and lives, with the full support of both corporate parties and especially Joe Biden. John Horton was murdered back in 2009. An internal police gang known as the 3000 Boys are widely reported to have infiltrated the Los Angeles Deputy Sheriffs. Allegedly, 10 such uniformed gang members are responsible for his murder. As she lays out the list of injuries John sustained through the brutal attack, she caps it off by informing us that his death was ruled a "suicide by hanging". She has been fighting for justice for 11 years. Her pain and anger brought me to tears. After she shared with the crowd, I gave her my condolences, thanked her for her bravery and she gave me the biggest MAMA hug ever. God bless you M'am. JOURNALISM FOR THE PEOPLE - BY THE PEOPLE https://ift.tt/2WfXI3P ​The Friday after George Floyd was murdered by Minneapolis Police, I flew to Minneapolis to see for myself what was REALLY happening. While there, I gave my audience a direct virtual experience into what it was like to be on the ground, at the protests. I got a direct interview with Civil Rights Attorney Lee Merritt, the family attorney for Ahmaud Arbery and a number of other Black men and women who have been murdered at the hands of police. That interview provided breaking news and insight into the legal implications of the arrest of Derek Chauvin, long before any of the major networks even reported on it. ​Since then, I have been traveling to protests in Southern California. While there, I have demonstrated that the threat of violence is in direct proportion to the amount of police present. The mass media has continuously failed to illustrate this. ​Most recently, I flew to New York City to participate in and cover the Occupy City Hall protest. While in New York, I got the first public statement from Josef Martinez minutes after he was released from jail. He had been brutalized and arrested by NYPD earlier that morning and the video of his apprehension went viral. My interview with Mr. Martinez provided first hand testimony that NYPD had stormed into a peaceful demonstration and then kneeled on his neck, the same way that George Floyd was killed. Major news outlets have yet to cover this story or many of the other stories that I have shared in my coverage. ​Because of my unwavering passion for justice and relentless support of Black Lives, I have personally funded all of this work up to this point.
