Something something about how the age difference between Kevin and Jean makes it so much better.

Like Kevin is this older teenager, who is so confident and good at exy. He's going to be the best in the sport. He's six feet tall with the world at his back and stars in his eyes. And Jean is just a kid. It's only a two year difference or something, but that's practically a lifetime when you're fifteen and angry and barely holding on.

Kevin is seventeen and he's looking at Jean, even though he shouldn't be because Jean is nothing - the son of a family that didn't matter, now little more than a toy to Moriyama whims. And Kevin is everything. The son of the very sport they're sacrificing their lives to.

And here is Jean, voice still scratchy with puberty. Maybe he's only an annoyance to Kevin at first, Riko's new plaything, a useless third addition to the perfect court that has only ever needed two. But then Jean becomes something much worse. He becomes someone that Kevin cares about in a place where caring gets you killed. He becomes someone that Kevin has failed to protect over and over again.

Then Kevin leaves and Jean stays. They meet again a year (but more like a lifetime) later. Kevin isn't that arrogant teenager anymore - he's human and he drinks too much and his hands shake and there is no number on his face. And Jean isn't a kid anymore, hasn't been for a long time, but Kevin's never noticed before. Jean is nineteen, he hates Kevin just as much as he loves him, and he no longer looks at him like he's holding up the sky.

So where do they go now?

yeah. quoting one of my posts but :

just made myself sad while thinking about Jean Moreau and what would happen to him if he didn't survivre the nest — dying because of Riko's abuse, alone, scared, in pain. Calling out for Kevin, somebody, anybody to save him.

Will they bury him ? Will they give an excuse for his disappearance ? Will they just get rid of the body ? Forgotten, still alone in some dark place where nobody will ever find him. How would Kevin react ? Because Kevin left him, didn't spare a thought for his oldest friend and now Jean is dead and nobody will ever come to free him.

Broken body, red scars on his face. Dark bruises on pale skin, where blood meet freckles, where the once pale grey eyes went milky.

Horror and beauty intertwined. 

Did he die because of blood loss ? Of broken ribs that pierced his lungs ? Of being waterboarded too much ? Of exhaustion and pain ? Did he die because Riko pushing him down the stairs once more was just too brutal ? A broken neck ? A brain bleed ?

hate hate hate when people write previously fucked up codependent weird relationships as mellowing out completely after a year or two of being together, or, even worse, after the first kiss. like who do you think you are to make them normal. theyre going to be even worse because now there's two of then and theyre working in tandem

I finished The Golden Raven and here are my first thoughts !

eight hours, some tears, some laughter and i've finally finished the golden raven. i've never loved a book character as much as I love jean moreau.

in the sunshine court, jean was still a raw wound, in the golden raven, jean is healing, slowly but like a sunflower he is opening up a little by little. big eyes, big heart. soft, kind, a delightful and precious person even with his barbed remarks.

we also got jeremy's backstory but sadly, two books in and i am still not attached to the character. yes, jeremy is sad, and tortured. but in front of jean's backstory it is just, in my opinion, so bland ? he's rich, he's pretty, parents are a mess, stepfather is homophobic, etc etc i just don't love him. it is easier to relate to jean. easier to let him win you over. hurt but not broken, mean but not unkind, standoffish but never an asshole. i relate to his guilt, to his pain, to his grief. i relate to the fact that silence is the only way his voice is heard. « That Jean could scrounge up so much emotion for a man who’d practically left fingerprints on his throat was unbearable. How Jean’s kind heart had survived a place like Evermore, Jeremy wasn’t sure. It was bruised and bleeding, but it wasn’t broken. » jeremy is the sun incarnated, it sadly falls flat in the world of nora sakavic's flawed but lovable characters. i get the sunshine x grumpy trope, but the jerejean of it all isn't hitting. no giggles, no butterflies in the tummy, just a cold : 'ah yes, they find each others hot'. canon andreil was more effective. fanon doomed kevjean is more attractive. « Jeremy assumed Jean was used to Kevin’s bossiness after so many years together, but he glanced at Jean’s face to gauge his mood. The look on Jean’s face, there and gone again in a heartbeat, was almost enough to startle him off the doorframe. »

the kevjean reunion was magnificent yet so so sad. the little interaction between jean and andrew was very interesting because you can't sense that they would get along in the long run. the jean and neil forever misplaced partners ? amazing. for my opinion on the rest of the cast : - just like the rest, the trojans are easily forgettable. lgbtq+ friendly, kind but also, so very plain. - the first ravens suicides in TSC were a shock. the last one in TGR was so repetitive that it got funny. - the ravens are mean for the sake of being mean, it got old very fast, i had to roll my eyes. - thea muldani jumpscare appearance. still brainwashed even after quitting the ravens. my distaste of her just grew a little more, i won't forget that she blamed jean for his sa. - the zane bit was nice, we got 'closure'. - the end felt rushed, the dog part was unnecessary. a lot of fillers in some chapters. - nora's writing got even better which i really liked !
