Warriors headcanons: Starclan and the Clans edition

Thunderclan cats are visited by a large glowing cat, eyes pure white, stars covering every inch of their fur. If Starclan chooses to speak, it will be the voice of every ancestor overlapping each other, with the sound of rolling thunder echoing all around them. A unified force. Riverclan cats are visited by a large fish, usually taking on the appearance of a silvery trout with stars for scales. When Starclan speaks, the whispers of flowing rivers emanates from the being. Shadowclan is visited by an ethereal raven, with glowing, ember eyes and smoky feathers. When Starclan speaks, all that can be heard is the croaking of bullfrogs, the rushing of reeds and raven caws. Windclan is visited by a spry hare, with pulsating nebula clusters for eyes, and starry limbs which speak in riddles of the moor, howling wind and scraggly heather and the thundering pawsteps of running prey.

i think i can only enjoy squirrelstar if her ascension is explicitly not a happy thing for her, and i think that really plays into how unceremoniously it's presented in the books. because it wasn't supposed to be like this. in her child self's mind this moment was triumphant, climactic, the hero's reward at the end of a long journey. her sister was supposed to be here, warm and alive, beside her. but instead it's this cold, mechanical managerial process about as joyful as filing paperwork. her sister is dead and the system that has assailed them both still thrives, uncaring. squirrelflight's only even here because her wonderful husband's last hoorah as leader was to do what he always does best and shift the blame and consequences of the current situation onto her so he doesn't have to face them, because clearly she has not earned her rest as he has. and she's not surprised. she's lived long enough to see the clans for what they really are and the magic is gone, and no rehearsed "look how far you've come" platitudes from the same starclan cats who almost barred her and her sister entrance to heaven will ever recapture those rose tinted glasses
