Drarry Fic Rec: Part Seven
Tumblr media
Memory Lane by Selden 31,041 words, T
When memories from the war start surfacing in unexpected places, Harry Potter and Draco Malfoy find themselves spending a surprising amount of time inside each other’s heads.
The Ordeal of Being Known by @lou-isfake 146,637 words, M
When Auror Potter is anonymously cursed with silence by being forced to hide his own voice inside his mind, there's unfortunately only one person in the country with the qualifications to fix it: Certified and Licensed Healer Legilimens, Draco Malfoy, specialist in Mind Curses and Afflictions. It's obviously a terrible idea, a disaster waiting to happen, but Draco's never been able to back down from a challenge… especially from Potter.
Away Childish Things by @letteredlettered 153,881 words, T
Harry gets de-aged. Malfoy has to help him.
For this set, I collected stories in which Draco and Harry are working through their canon history.
In all of these, they are learning to understand their childhood traumas and each other better through the explorations of their memories, Legilimency, or encountering their past selves. Also, Harry is an Auror in these, so they are all case fics to a certain degree. If you enjoy reflections on their relationship in the books and/or you just like really great storytelling, amazing character depictions and wonderful plots, these are for you.
'Memory Lane' is beautifully written, with a captivating mystery, late-night road trips, dodgy memory charms, mutual mistrust, and understanding your counterpart via a literal journey into their head. 'The Ordeal of Being Known' has a similar journey, as it revisits Drarry's entire canon development with fresh eyes. It provides a wonderful, heartfelt new dynamic between an unhappy Harry and a Draco who has grown to be a good man. And 'Away Childish Things' is just superb; I think I have reread it more often than the actual books by now. It uses de-aging ingeniously to confront the characters with their past and their relationship during the series and afterwards. Enjoy!

Tattooed: The Golden Trio
• Harry:
Harry’s first tattoo was drunkenly done on the first anniversary of the Battle of Hogwarts. Everyone was grieving, the Weasley’s hearts were breaking once again for Fred and Harry couldn’t handle the guilt of the situation so he left to the Leaky Cauldron and got drunk of fire whiskey. He woke up the next day with a small, snowy white owl on the underneath his ear. To everyone else, Hedwig’s death seemed inconsequential compared to their own, but to Harry, it was the death of his first true friend. The owl moved around Harry’s body, enjoying swooping over the back of his neck and pecking at his ear. He didn’t even realize how much he needed the tattoo until he saw it and rejected Hermione’s attempts to remove it. A month later he got a collection of tattoos for his lost loved ones: a miniature stag galloping across his ribs, joined by a shaggy black wolf, the name ‘Lily’ in his Mother’s handwriting with a beautiful inked flower beside it, and a moon on the inside of his wrist reminding him to always do good despite the difficulties he faced. For Ron and Hermione he’d gotten the coordinates of Hogwarts, because his friends had become family and the train station was the first time he’d met that family he’d always wanted. His last tattoo was of a constellation, patterned across his left collarbone, dipping towards his heat. The Draco constellation. Always lovingly traced over. Always guiding him home.
• Hermione:
She surprisingly loved tattoos. It surprised Ron, who didn’t expect his straight-laced wife to be intrigued by Harry’s owl tattoo. He’d seen the glimmer in her eyes and subconsciously he expected ink to appear on her skin. She hadn’t gone off and done it without him knowing but instead she’d shown him a notebook with a drawing on the page. It was a rose. At first he was confused, understanding the meaning was obvious, it was a name they both loved and over soft nights wrapped up in one another they’d discussed how they’d name their first child, ‘Rose’. It was when she’d pressed his hand against her stomach, did he realize the meaning. The rose was inked on her wrist, and at first it was a bud, and as the nine months passed, the flower bloomed into a scarlet red rose. Ron would often trace over the lines, marvelling at the life he now had. The only other tattoo Hermione ever got was for Ron, a long feather that laid across her ribcage which when touched rose slightly making Hermione thrum with giggles and tremble when ‘wingardium leviosa’ was whispered over it.
• Ron:
He loved all the tattoos on his wife, he enjoyed tracing them and enjoyed the process of them being inked on her. But he hated the thought of a needle poking him. The only tattoo he ever got was because Luna had said that it would be nice for him to get something to match both Hermione and Harry. He’d wracked his mind thinking about it, wondering if he should do a homage to Fred or to get something relating to his two best friends. But in the end, he’d gotten the handprint of his son tattoed over his heart. It had fit nicely, with Hermione having a Rose and him having Hugo, it was complete. A complete family was always something Ron wanted.
*part 2: will have the ‘Silver Trio’ aka, Draco, Blaise and Pansy tattoed edition*

hiii do u know any good auror!harry/healer!draco fics?
Sure, though one or two of these are past Auror!Harry, they still made the list bc i love them a lot ¯\_(ツ)_/¯Hello, China! by Nattish (19k)In a world where Voldemort has been defeated but the Death Eaters remain at large, Harry Potter is a war colonel leading a regiment across Muggle Eurasia. When he’s injured in the line of duty, he refuses treatment from anyone except Healer Malfoy, who is befuddled but perfectly willing to find out what this means.Featured Book: The Healer’s HelpmateAt the Crossroads There We’ll Meet by Firethesound (24k)Potter keeps dying; Draco keeps saving him.Bad Medicine by Playout (25k)As an Auror, Harry is no stranger to St. Mungo’s Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries but he has reached his limit with his confidential information appearing in the Prophet after every visit. He’s angry enough to give even his childhood nemesis’s private practice a go. At least if Harry’s secrets show up in the paper now, he’ll know who to hex.And Back Again (Where You Belong) by Eidheann (15k)He thought back on their previous handshakes, and smiled faintly at the fact they always seemed to mean so much more to him than they did to Potter.Any Instrument by @dictacontrion (131k)Draco Malfoy wouldn’t go back to England for anything less than an exceptional case. Being asked to figure out why Harry Potter can’t control his magic might be exceptional enough to qualify. The Four Ds of Apparition (or: Destination, Determination, Deliberation, and Dicks) by Eidheann and Firethesound (36k)After transferring to the Apparition Department, Harry’s life becomes one big dick joke. And all his friends are arseholes. So is Malfoy, but what else is new? AKA Harry Potter and the eighteen twenty dicks.Pharynx-Larynx-Oesophagus-Trachea by Firethesound (11k)Harry’s idea for helping Draco study is the most brilliant thing he’s ever come up with, and Draco discovers that studying can be fun when one has the right study partner.A Future Unknown by Omi_Ohmy (25k)Draco had always thought that the ability to see the future would have saved him a lot of grief. The choices are no easier, however, when he is cursed to see an endless set of futures featuring Harry Potter. Featured Book: Predicting the Unpredictable: Insulate Yourself Against ShocksBroken Dreams by Queenie_Mab (30k)When Healer Malfoy answers an Auror field emergency summons, being stuck experiencing Harry Potter’s memories while he sleeps is not at all what he wants to be doing, but it seems that the curse that joins them is only the tip of the crime about to be unravelled.Misplaced Memories by Dacro (38k)Harry is hit by an unknown curse and loses eighteen years of his memories. When he wakes up, he doesn’t remember magic, Hogwarts or that he’s happily married to a former Death Eater. Draco struggles to adapt to the changes and tries to help Harry retrieve his memories without causing further damage.Date Blindness by Dysonrules (23k)Harry was perfectly happy with his life until Hermione decided to set him up on a blind date. Doctor! Doctor! (Is this love I’m feeling?) by Khasael (20k)For the first time ever, Harry agrees to seek medical help when he feels ill. His Auror colleagues are amazed, and most of the St Mungo’s staff are starstruck, but when it keeps happening, Draco suspects Harry has a hidden agenda. And he’s right.Sex on Fire by Gypsyflame (11k)A life-threatening injury brings Malfoy back into Harry’s life. The Peacock Paladin and the King of the Emerald Court by Megyal (11k)Harry suffers from chronic headaches, and it affects his work and relationships. New pain-management techniques (and their provider) may just be the relief his life needs.Fight the Starless Midnight by Maab_Connor (21k)Harry thought that he was going to arrest Healer Malfoy for practicing without a license. Nothing ever goes as planned.

Aw thanks <3 Should I apologise or be proud for the addiction haha!

So eighth year and McGonagalls put everyone that came back to finish up their last year in the third floor corridor or in the tower under the owlery.
But that part of the castle’s been abandoned for years so the heating charms are completely naff and it’s always too cold.
One night both Draco and Harry are in the common room after insomnia, for Draco, and nightmares, for Harry, kept them from their beds. They’ve pushed a couch up next to the main fireplace but it’s still fucking freezing.
Draco cannot stop shivering and is sitting right on the edge of the couch and holding his hands out to the fire. Harry’s leaning back, just wearing an old jumper and jeans he threw on, looking completely at ease.
Draco gives him a nasty look and Harry chuckles and jokingly opens his arms, “Want me to warm you up, Malfoy?”
What passes for rational thought in Draco’s head at this point is something like, You pompous fucking arsehole, fine see how you like it and he shifts over and lays on Harry’s chest thinking he’ll just do it for a minute to make Harry uncomfortable and then mock him mercilessly for it. But the boy is a furnace and Draco just relaxes into him like a fucking cat because he’s finally warm.
Harry is super uncomfortable for a bit until Draco just melts into him and wraps his hands around Harry’s back and they’re so cold. SO he just stays there and maybe dozes off.
This happens over and over again. When they meet in the common room and when they snuggle up together they both sleep better than they have for months and it’s just too good to give up. Eventually, they start to lose barriers between one another, start talking about the past and the war. Harry absently brushing Draco’s hair back leads to him touching it all the time and Draco likes to lay his head on Harry’s chest and listen to his heartbeat.
No one knows they’re doing this.
Then, one winter day, it’s cold enough to snow outside and the wind is blowing, chilling the castle and the eighth year’s rooms especially. Everyone’s gathered in the common room to pool their warming charms. Harry’s reading, laying on a large couch back against the wall that only he wants because boy is a furnace and doesn’t mind the chill from the stones.
Draco tromps down from his rooms wrapped up in a sweater, robes, his winter cloak and a blanket over his shoulders and still looks miserably cold. He spots Harry, immediately goes over to him, pushes his book up and snuggles up on top of him, pulling his blanket over his head as Harry sets his book down, propped up on Draco’s back.
And everyone’s staring like, what the actual bloody fuck?
Finally, Hermione asks Harry, “Are… you dating Malfoy?”
Harry brow furrows and he tugs up the edge of the blanket, “Are we dating?”
Draco thinks about it for a second, he leans up, kisses Harry and says, “I guess so,” then pulls the blanket over his head again.
Harry looks back at Hermione, “Looks that way.” and just goes back to reading.

Things Draco Malfoy HATES About Harry Potter
He’s always ruffling up his hair, he says it’s hereditary (who the fuck get’s incessant hair ruffling as a trait?)
Every time Draco snorts when he laughs (often) he makes fun of him for hours afterwards. every. time.
He’s that friend in the group chat that never lets you live a typo down.
Draco makes a lot of fucking typos because Muggle devices are hard at first okay?
He whines if you don’t rub his feet when he asks you to.
He fucking licks - he’s like a bloody dog. He does it to annoy Draco, and it works.
Every time he goes out in public every one swoons (okay maybe it’s not his fault but it’s still annoying)
He uses puns too often.
He pours his milk before his cereal.
He’s one of those people that insists you eat bananas “the right way” (peeling from the bottom like a fucking monkey)
He takes his curry too spicy so Draco can’t pick off his plate.
He falls asleep while playing with Draco’s hair and Draco needs his hair played with much longer than thirty five minutes thankyouverymuch.
He doesn’t know how to accept gifts.
He’s too heroic - he brings home stray animals once a week. (Harry, we already have 4 cats and 3 dogs please take the iguana to the humane society Jesus Christ)
He owns like three of the same tee shirts and wears them all at least once a week.
He buys Draco ridiculous sweaters with phrases on them (I <3 The Boy Who Lived) and gets pouty when he refuses to wear them.
He uses parseltongue in public just to make Draco come undone.
He insists on having his bloody Gryffindor ass friends over constantly.
He cheats at Quidditch, Draco is sure of it.
He shushes Draco while they’re watching movies or TV.
He can’t make a proper cup of tea.
He never makes the bed and he leaves his dirty clothes every where.
When Draco is trying to nag him he just gives him a goofy smile and apologizes and leans in for a kiss (how is that even fair?)
He tells every one he doesn’t like cuddling (bloody liar)
He’s infuriating, annoying, and all around horrible in every plausible way.
And Draco Malfoy doesn’t even hate him a little bit.

This is so beautiful, although at times hard to read. It is a genius!Draco as well as ravenclaw!Draco AU, and it is so absolutely spectacular. As previously mentioned it does get rather heavy at time, and you will be so frustrated you will have to take a time out, but it is so worth it. This is 20/10 and I would read it over and over again.
