MODERN: Free Win Red v Strange 5C Borderposty Cascadey Thing
Game 1: Irrelevant draws (Bloodmoon, early Chandras/Koths etc) + Lack of lands/Rituals = Eventual loss to Elspeth’s Soldiers and Metalwork Collosuses (Collosuses? Collosi? Collosae?)
Sideboarding: Brought in 2xSmash to Smithreens and 1xVandalblast (For obvious reasons) as well as 2xBlasphemous Act and 2xOrbs of Warding (due to Tokens) and 2xPithing Needle to fight Collosi recursion or Borderposts, Took out all 6 Bloodmoon effects, 2xRelic and 1xMind Stone
Game 2: Kept a respectable hand, Smashed the turn 1 Borderpost hoping they kept a poor hand but effectively lost when a turn 5 Violent Outburst cascaded into Restore Balance (Nope, I had no idea it existed either, Google it) which put me back to 1 land. Failed to draw another or any Ensnaring Bridges or Artifact hate and lost.
Summary: Bloodmoon was useless, Chalice was useless, Relic was near useless and I failed to draw a single Ensnaring Bridge: sad times for FWR :(
Result: 0-2

MODERN: Free Win Red v Temur Energy
Game 1: Mulliganed into a 1 lander with scry’d Spirit Guide and kept (Big mistake) and was up against what appeared to be a standard deck (Whirler Virtuoso, Servant of the Conduit etc) before eventually scooping to an on-curve Ugin... yes I’m confused as well.
Sideboarding: Brought in 2xBlasphemous Act (due to Thopters) and 2x Pithing Needle (due to Ugin), Took out 2xRelic and 2xTormenting Voice
Game 2: Bolted Opponent’s Turn 2 Servant before Ritual and Spirit Guide into Chandra on my turn led to them scooping
Game 3: Opponent conceded during sideboarding to avoid further humiation and facing our wrath
Summary: Very few basics makes Bloodmoon obviously strong (unless you Mulligan poorly and never make it past 2 lands...) but a low curve and Thopters make Ensnaring Bridge poor. Chalice would ideally be on 2/3 to fight their low curve but reaching 4 or 6 mana before they get chance to build a solid board is difficult with this deck.
Result: 2-1

(My) Magic Origins
My Magic Origins (pun unintended, but noticed) began several years ago after being introduced to MTG by a friend whilst playing snooker in the snookerhall adjacent to the room my local FNM used at the time. Intrigued, we purchased the Elspeth v Kiora Duel Deck and, after becoming hooked, began to venture into Standard around the end of the Khans block. The first set released after we began playing Standard was Battle for Zendikar (which i still consider to be one of the more interesting sets during my short time in the game) and we began ti play more regularly, using only cards we opened from boosters in true newbie fashion.
However, my first foray into Modern occured online when i began to desire more games than lunchtimes at college would allow and that was when i truly became addicted to MTG. Since then i have ventured into other formats, producing a split of time between constructed formats that is approximately 85% Modern, 10% Standard and the remaining 5% divided between Commander, Legacy and Momir when i get a craving for anarchy.

Hello Tumblr!
Figured i may as well start this Blog with a brief introduction: my names Jack and I’m a Magicoholic... shit puns aside, I’m a British law student who procrastinates by spending far too much time playing random decks on Magic online - mostly modern.
Whats the purpose of this Blog? 1) Further procrastination 2) Documenting my gameplay, “new” decks and thoughts on new sets/the meta for future reference, hopefully providing some interesting insight along the way. It’ll include written game/league/draft analysis with the occasional deck techs and ‘Best ofs’ as filler during quiet periods.
Hopefully this becomes a regular thing, so stay tuned and drop a like if this sounds interesting or intriguing!
