The problem with playing smash or pass is that there's a lot of characters which I'm not sexually attracted to but I would fuck in a heartbeat out of sheer curiosity and ego, like I don't find Mickey Mouse attractive at all but if he approached me at a bar and went "Hey sexy, want me to show you my mouseketool?" somewhere out there right now is a kid with curly hair being raised by people who have wavy hair at best and those people are giving them 2-in-1 shampoo and conditioner and telling them to dry brush it. and that kid is gonna spend all of middle school and high school hating their hair and moping over the flat iron. they're being told right now that if they don't dry-brush their curl pattern into oblivion every morning it means they're unkempt and gross even though they naturally have the kind of ringlets that a thousand bridezillas would commit horrible murders for every june. it's happening right now it's an absolute epidemic and a tragedy every time

warrior cats is so fucking buckwild because like. you have 3 - 8 authors working on this thing at any given time, and unlike other major series with multiple authors under one pen name, like nancy drew, there’s really no effort made to hide it and it’s just common knowledge that erin hunter is multiple women arguing with each other and their publisher and editor via their cat ocs. it’s basically game of thrones with cats. soap operas with cats. each arc is 6 books long and none of them are fully planned out or outlined in advance. the authors apparently never fucking talk to each other, because books routinely fail to agree on the characters’ ages, families, or appearances. there’s a grammar error in pretty much every book and continuity is tied up in knots. at some point you just have to quit thinking about the timeline. again, there are 3 - 8 authors working on this series and yet they have no series bible, and even the authors admit to using the fan wiki to fact-check details of their own series. virtually no fan has read every book and you’re not really expected to because between the “main” series and all the supplementary material, there are over 80 books and it’s still going. even most fans will agree it’s not exactly good writing, in terms of money, this is one of the most successful book series ever made. and it’s about cats.

it’s like this.

if you only have one person in your life that you trust, you probably are always going to turn to that person when something shit happens. as well as whenever something good happens. or anything else. this is not inherently a bad thing, and it’s really beautiful to have someone in your life that you trust so much

but if that person is suddenly busy or going through something difficult themselves or doesn’t have emotional capacity for a while, suddenly there’s a problem. not necessarily through any fault of your own, you don’t have anyone to turn to with as much regularity as you did before

this is true of any kind of relationship. this is true of any kind of coping mechanism, also. the problem is not that you trust that person. the problem is not that you use that coping mechanism. the problem is not even that there’s something wrong with you and that it’s all your fault. the problem is that nothing can be everything

the solution is not to cut off your one trusted person or to cut yourself off from your one trusted coping mechanism. the solution is to do the difficult work of diversifying your life as much as it’s possible for you to do. which is why it sucks so much when external factors prevent you from being able to live a truly diverse life. okay that’s all have a good one
