The morning of January 15th, 1947 marks the starting point of one of Los Angeles’ most famous and morbid homicide cases. While out for a stroll with her toddler, Betty Bersinger discovered the severed body of a young woman discarded in the Leimert Park neighborhood. The gruesome details of the crime instantly seized the media’s attention, and a crowd of reporters and curious citizens gathered to the unfolding investigation. An artist with the Los Angeles Herald Examiner, one of the city’s most popular papers of that time, released this sketch of the victim, hoping to find her identity.
Investigators later determined the body belonged to Elizabeth Short, a 22-year-old aspiring actress. Short moved to L.A. in July 1946 to pursue her dreams of stardom. Her friends in the city affectionally dubbed her “The Black Dahlia” regarding her penchant for all black outfits. This nickname followed her in death and became a moniker used for the case in the years to come.
73 years later, the murder of Elizabeth Short remains unsolved.

GUYS, can I ask a huge favour? Can you PLEASE click this link and vote for Morbidology? It’s the May Hot 50 Chart for Podcast Magazine. It would be amazing for indie podcasts to get into the top charts which are typically dominated by big production companies. It would also really help my little podcast out and help new potential listeners find me!
I’d be eternally grateful and thank you all so much for the continued support!

The Guanajuato Mummies are considered to be amongst the most horrifying in the world due to their contorted faces, which lead to the belief that some were buried alive. Author, Ray Bradbury, visited the catacombs and stated: “The experience so wounded and terrified me, I could hardly wait to flee Mexico”.

What do “Silence of the Lambs, "Texas Chainsaw Massacre”, and “Psycho” have in common? They were all partially inspired by serial killer and grave robber Ed Gein, whose ghoulish crimes shocked the country. He murdered two women and robbed countless graves of various body parts before being apprehended by the police. In his house, police found:
- a wastebasket made of human skin
- human skin covering several chair seats
- skulls on his bedposts
- bowls made from human skulls
- a corset made from a female torso skinned from shoulders to waist
- leggings made from human leg skin
- masks made from the skin of female heads
- nine vulvas in a shoe box
- a belt made from female human nipples
- four noses
- a pair of lips on a window shade drawstring
- a lampshade made from the skin of a human face
… among other items. He was also partially the inspiration for Rob Zombie’s films “House of 1,000 Corpses” and “The Devil’s Rejects”. Gein died July 26, 1984, of respiratory failure due to lung cancer. He was 77.

Update on Gypsy Rose Blanchard in Prison:

“We recently visited Gypsy to find her very excited about the recent surge in her support. She is looking more beautiful than ever and was happy to taste some good ole Gumbo from South Louisiana. She is staying very active with the available self help programs and has a job with the photography department. She continues to show ambition towards getting a cosmetology degree before being released and is quite ready to just live a normal life.”

do you think eric likes dylan more than dylan liked eric? or vice versa?
Eric defiantly liked Dylan more than Dylan liked Eric. Or at least, it started off that way.
Given the numbers of times Eric mentions Dylan in his journal vs. how many times Dylan mentions Eric in his journal. Also, it’s clear that Dylan viewed Zach Heckler as a best friend rather than Eric. He even writes a whole journal entry on him and how upset he is after Zach got a girlfriend, making him spend less time with him.
“My best friend ever: thefriend who shared, experimented, laughed, took chances with & appreciated me more thanany friend ever did has been ordained … “passed on” … in my book. Ever since [Devon] (who Iwouldn’t mind killing) has loved him … that’s the only place he’s been with her … if anyonehad any idea how sad I am … I mean we were the TEAM. When him & I first were friends, well I finally found someone who was like me: who appreciated me & shared very commoninterests. Ever since 7th grade, I’ve felt lonely … when [Zach] came around, I finally felt happiness(sometimes) we did cigars, drinking, sabotage to houses, EVERYTHING for the firsttime together & now that he’s “moved on” I feel so lonely, w/o a friend.”
Let’s not forget on the diversion papers, Eric also refers to Dylan as his best friend while Dylan seemed to scratch out “best” and put “good friend” instead.
Eric:

Dylan:

It also worth mentioning when Dylan’s original plan for NBK was to commit it with his soulmate, not with Eric. While Dylan rather kill and die with his crush, Eric rather kill and die with his best friend. It wasn’t until Dylan never gotten with that girl of his dreams, he decided to commit it with Eric instead. “..either I’ll commit suicide,or I’ll get with [redacted] & it will be NBK for us. My happiness. Her happiness. NOTHING elsematters.” -2.2.1998
Also, Devon did mentioned once how annoyed Dylan use to get about how Eric use to copy him all the time. When Dylan applied for Blackjack’s, so did Eric. When Dylan got a Rammstein sticker for his car, so did Eric. When Dylan got a black trench coat, so did Eric.
Also Sue stated once that sometime in his junior year, Dylan wanted to distance himself from Eric. Dylan even asked his mom when Eric calls, if she could come up with a fake excuse as to why Dylan couldn’t hangout with him. When his mother asked why he doesn’t want to see Eric, Dylan said “Eric’s crazy.” Given how non-confrontational Dylan was, it would be understandable if Dylan never had the nerve to tell Eric his true feelings towards him.

Dependent Personality Disorder is characterized as a lack of confidence and an excessive need to be looked after. These people depend on others to meet their emotional and physical needs, rarely ever achieving normal levels of independence. Anyone who knows someone with this disorder may see them as clingy, passive, and indecisive. They are unable to make their their own everyday life decisions and leave it to other people to decide for them, requiring constant advice and reassurances. Someone with Dependent PD greatly fears abandonment and may go to extreme lengths to maintain a relationship. When they are alone they may feel uncomfortable and helpless, as they feel incapable of taking care of themselves. Since sufferers of Dependent PD see themselves as inadequate, they surrender responsibility and submit themselves to one or more people who they feel can ‘’protect’’ and coddle them. It is no surprise at all that those with this disorder are susceptible to abusive relationships as they possess a naïve and child-like mentality and lack insight into themselves and others, making it easy for people to manipulate and take advantage of them.

Exciting news!
Hey, guys! I’m aware that I haven’t been very active for some time and making new posts. There is a reason for that, and I’m very pleased to finally be able to announce it after keeping it a secret for so long.
Almost three years ago, a publisher from McFarland & Company, Inc. reached out to me through my blog and offered me a book deal. I was OVERWHELMED with excitement and awe that a publishing company would deem me, a true crime blogger, author-worthy. I immediately knew the topic I wanted to write about. However, at the time, I wasn’t exactly 100% prepared to take on such a big project. I did keep in touch with the publisher throughout the past few years, however, and I continued to write & research here and there. I’m glad I waited, because my writing and researching skills have improved tremendously since I was an 18-year-old.
With that being said…I’m officially writing a true crime book! I won’t reveal the topic for now, but it’s an interesting subject matter that isn’t commonly written about in the genre of true crime. And just know that I am pouring my heart and soul into this passion project of mine. A lot of research is going into my book, including exclusive interviews. I’m all around very grateful I was given this opportunity, and I want to thank my followers, both old and new, who have been supporting me and continue to support me.
So, for those of you who have messaged me asking where I’ve been and why I don’t post as often, this is the reason why. I promise I’m not neglecting you guys! I do miss blogging, and I’m going to try posting more regularly. I hope you’re all as hyped as I am.
Anyway…back to writing! 😊✌
