You have a day off! (TOT Headcanons)

Artem

You’re never disappointed when Artem volunteers to cook - both from the dishes themselves and the conversations that you get to have with him. It’s a much more intimate and comfortable thing, with the aroma of spices and caramelized ingredients wafting through the air as you talk about your week.

Later on the both of you watch a movie together! He lets you pick which one, but you also ask him for recommendations (Artem’s smile when he’s talking about something he likes is something you’ll never get tired of, really.) If you fall asleep on his shoulder he’d find a blanket to cover you with while he makes tea to tie up the day. And if you commented on a certain dish from earlier… Perhaps he’d make a little extra for you to bring home with you as well.

Marius

Today is not only a day off, but the biggest cheat day you might ever have. Marius brings you to the bakeries and shops that you’ve always wanted to try (but never had the time to), and you return to his car with bags of food. Clearly, dining out with the great Marius von Hagen is no small thing, thus to avoid drawing more attention you return to his place to enjoy your bounty.

You also do some abstract painting together! By which I mean… Marius covered a section of the wall with a cloth that paint could cling onto, and the both of you armed yourselves with oversized brushes to work on your masterpiece (whether this is actually a proper painting or you just messing around, he doesn’t really mind as long as you have fun.)

Luke

What’s a better rest day than lounging around in the comfort of home? You and Luke go on a show marathon and play video games, and anything else that catches your fancy. His favourite is of course detective or mystery ones, where he gets to see the cute expression you get while you’re figuring out a puzzle and has the chance to impress you with his wits.

He also bought pints of your favourite ice cream flavours - the both of you have a contest to see who can finish the most during your show-marathon, which resulted in a mix of a sugar rush and brain freeze that neither of you are willing to acknowledge, lest it means you’ve admitted defeat. You spend some time recounting fond memories from the past, though… Promise you won’t forget to make new ones with him too, alright?

Vyn

He invites you for tea time! It’s a quiet afternoon under the pergola with the drinks and food Vyn has prepared. This is the most relaxed you’ve felt in a while, almost as if you were in a secret hideaway from the bustle of regular life - perhaps that would make Vyn the magician that’s whisked you away? He spares no delicate glances and thoughtful lines while with you, and despite how he’s always like this, the sunlight that softly highlights his features make him seem… gentler than usual.

The roses in the garden are in full bloom; would you care to take a walk with him? If you’d like, I’m sure Vyn would hold your hand as you talked and explored this little world together, or lead you in a small waltz or two.

Rosa

Of course you’re going out to the CBD and markets on a day off! Retail therapy or even just window shopping is enjoyable in itself, and Rosa is excited to show off her local knowledge by bringing you to her favourite restaurant for lunch.

Instead of going to a spa, the both of you buy the items you might need and do it yourselves at her place! Painting each other’s nails, putting on face masks and watching a show you’ve been meaning to try - if nothing else, you know you can be yourself around Rosa and not be afraid of being judged!

Rosa only laughed harder at that, fighting to keep her cool while getting into character. "Damn, shawty bae, want to get in my Lexus and take a trip to my factory full of underpaid workers?"

You heard all this through your earpiece, giggling too much to join in. Instead, you switched the channel, choosing to talk the other members while Raven and your girlfriend laughed helplessly.

"Hey guys, knock it off. Any more of that and I'd be too giggly to carry out the mission," you said, adjusting your sleeve.

"I don't talk like that." You could hear King's pout over the line, sending you into another small laughing fit.

"Everyone, please, this is Y/C/N's first mission, can we help them get into the right headspace?" Libra's voice pleaded.

"Yeah, yeah, of course," Raven replied, smile audible. "I'll let you guys finish getting ready. My cheeks hurt!"

You removed, turned off, and pocketed your earpiece on your way to Rosa's hotel room. You were excited to show her your attire for tonight and wanted it to be a private moment.

Popping your head in the door, you asked if she had hers out too. With her conformation, you entered her dressing room.

Your shared gasps upon seeing one another were met with matching smiles. As her fingers brushed over your outfit, you admired the way the bodice hugged her frame while retaining its modesty and how the airy, flowing fabrics of the skirt still managed to be heavy enough to create an alluring silhouette. A shared smile and a deep kiss was enough to communicate your thoughts, and you were off, an ominous black bag at your side.

With the tickets Marius provided, entry wasn't an issue, even with the large duffel bag you had on your hip.

"Alright, let's find this guy. No apprentice of mine, especially not one named Victor Siege, gets to challenge me and get away with it. He even paid for a name change, how cringe is Siege?" you said.

All this began because you were briefly questioned in an NXX case, and you gave your number to MC. Some time passed, and you'd been dating her for a while when a number of forgeries were exposed and all signs pointed to you. While you were a sweet, loving girlfriend, you were willing to go to any lengths to help people. The Robin Hood of the art world, you stole and forged priceless pieces of art, always returning them to the families they rightly belonged to. Your real income, however, came from the pieces you'd take along with your mark. They just wanted something pretty to hang in their huge, unused houses, so what's the harm if they still have their eye candy?

Needless to say, MC was heartbroken until Marius stepped in. He saw real emotion in your work and couldn't let another talent like Jason Sanders slip through his fingers. He offered you a position within the NXX as a forger, with caveats. If you were caught stealing or forging without the explicit permission of the NXX, you would be charged appropriately and incarcerated. And, as an extra precaution, you were given an ankle monitor with a 2 mile radius around the residence Marius provided for you where he could keep tabs on you. Artem protested his decision, but Marius assumed full responsibility should you do anything untoward.

MC was still devastated you lied to her, but after a while, she resumed her relationship with you, having realized you never compromised your personality when you were with her, you were genuinely you.

However, this case was different. Your past had caught up with you and an apprentice of yours decided he had something to prove, so he challenged you. PAX was holding a gala with its own small auction and your apprentice wanted you and him to submit an impossible forgery: a pre-war wine bottle. Whoever's passed the most tests would win. He was playing for pride, while you were playing for information. You asked the NXX for help and they reluctantly agreed, with the promise that you would explain yourself afterwards.

You entered the gala with MC on your arm, scanning the crowd for Victor.

You picked an empty corner table to set your things down, including your forged bottle. "He's here somewhere. Since he made the wager so close to the auction date, I missed the submission deadline. I'll have to present the wine bottle in the middle of the auction," you mumbled to MC, who nodded in understanding.

She beamed as you dragged her to the large, bustling dance floor in the middle of the hall. "No harm in a little fun while casing the joint, huh sweetpea?" she teased.

"Sweetpea! You're so old-fashioned sometimes. And anyways, you know me. I've never worked a day in my life," you dipped her in time with the music and pressed a kiss to her lips.

She flushed at your boldness and hid her face in your neck, quickly changing the topic. "I never considered how much work goes into forgeries. I've looked into forged painting with Marius before, but I'd forgotten there are other things to be forged, such as gemstones and-"

"Wine bottles, of all things. Alcohol tastes like ass and there's no way anyone would drink a bottle as priceless as this. Everyone needs a hobby, I suppose," you mocked.

"Stop! You're too funny."

It was your turn to flush, thoroughly enjoying every compliment she offered. Unfortunately, duty calls, and you pulled her off the floor to discreetly converse with Marius over your comms.

"The Franklin should present in around an hour, you two lovebirds have 45 minutes to enjoy the festivities."

"Perfect. I'm sure we'll get up to some mischief."

"As I was saying, I failed to consider the aged wax, label, cork, et cetera. I may be less than pleased you had to break into someone's wine cellar for the wax, but I will admit I'm impressed. Too bad you can't falsify the cesium test."

"We will not!"

"Haha! Happy hunting. King out."

Eagerly, you and your darling lover made your way back to the dance floor.

Your teeth flashed in a dangerous grin. It was time. Almost whimsically, you retrieved your duffel. Tapping a finger to your earbud, you breathed deep.

The original bottle was sealed before the atomic bomb was detonated, and therefore there was no cesium present inside the bottle. Anything made after the war had cesium in it, no matter what. It was impossible to pass, but the authenticator was going to perform a few tests beforehand, which is where the competition fell.

"Cesium test or not, I really needed this."

"What, a good crime?" she deadpanned.

A sheepish smile was all you could offer in return as you spun her in circles, hand firmly planted beneath her shoulderblade and fingers laced with hers.

"It's go time."

You burst through the doors. "Stop! Stop the auction!"

Marius hurried over, looking positively scandalized. "What's this about?"

"Your Franklin bottle is a fake. This," you pulled your forgery from your bag, "is the real Franklin."

Marius waved the appraiser over, face grim. "He's a really good actor," you thought as you handed the bottle to the wiry man. His initial evaluation made Marius heave a sigh.

"Ladies and gentlemen, do not panic. The bidding will resume, we will simply have to present the true Franklin later on in the evening once the tests have been run," Marius said over the din of the room.

The wait was nerve-wracking, for you at least. MC was still in the dark as to why Victor's info was so important, but she didn't press it. As per the agreement, she'd know later on that evening, and delayed gratification is better than none at all.

Three shared victories tied you and Victor, having passed the wax, cork, and glass refraction tests. Marius' authenticator made a small scene regarding the bill for two cesium tests, but a word from your young associate was all it took for the forgeries to be whisked away once more.

"Of course ours will be exposed as a forgery, but so will Victor's. That way we can case him on fraud and he'll be out of my hair, and I'll finally have a lead on Paco," you mumbled.

"Paco?" MC asked.

Your apologetic smile was a bit frustrating, but she let it slide for the time being.

How could this have happened? Victor's bottle passed the cesium test, meaning he stole the real Franklin and set you up. All the controversy surrounding the bottle caused its price to skyrocket, giving him the funds he needed to pay off the Russian mob. Whatever the hell he was into, it wasn't your business, you just needed that info. Victor was not getting away with both his loan money and a boost in pride at having surpassed his mentor.

You bolted when he did, much to the dismay of MC and Marius.

"Give me a few, guys, I can corner him in an old construction site. We may not be able to bag him on forgery, but Captain Morgan can hold him on trespassing until I figure something out. I know you're wary, but please call him and give him access to my anklet's location."

The team exchanged glances and quickly regrouped. Luke and Artem set up Morgan's chase with ease, but it was all on you now.

"Victor! Do you hear those sirens? It's over. Tell me where she is."

The scaffolding you stood upon rang with the blow of the wind, swaying with unease. The air smelled of salt and tasted of the sea.

"Oh, Y/N. Do you really think I'd give up that easily? I don't care about the end of the line, I care about the journey you take to join me. Who knows what he's got her doing. Petty theft at her age? Could become a deep-seated issue."

"I don't understand! I treated you like my own son, like the brother she never had. Why go through all this trouble?"

"Some things are more valuable than love, my dear mentor." He shifted his foot backwards, looking you dead in the eye.

"No!"

You scrambled to reach him, to catch him, to hold him, but all you saw when you reached the edge of the scaffold was the ripples of his landing. From this height, he was likely too injured to save himself. You tore at your clothes, removing excess fabric, poised yourself to dive—

The moment never came. Captain Morgan reached you just in time to wrangle you away from the edge despite your most desperate efforts.

The other members of the NXX arrived on the scene, surprised to see a bodybag. You were on the docks now, wailing into MC's arms as she did her best to console you.

Perhaps your interrogation would have to wait.

Sure hes a busy CEO, but he's still a student. When he's tied up with both and still wants to help you, he picks you up/comes over for a study date! There are two ways this can go. He's either stunningly focused, taking good notes while you're in his lap and hes pressing kisses to the top of your head, or he's wrapped around u like a koala distracting you until you scold him

Say the word and hes all over helping you. Hes patient and thorough, having known you long enough to know how best you process information. He even swallowed his pride and went to Vyn for resources bc he saw you were struggling :)

BUT he might huff a lil if you're not getting smth, mostly bc he thought that way would work and is trying to think of another way to put it

If he can't get away from work, he asks his assistant to check up on you, be it with a call or a visit.

After a big test he'll pop you in his car and barrel down an open road with the music at max, reveling in your smile. He takes you to some isolated cliff or beach aaa

If you struggle waking up, he either wakes you himself in-person or with a call on his way to work, he left u breakfast on the counter :)

He does prefer texting, but not with you anwjfw he calls u so often he just misses your voice

Guys hes literally a professor so hear me out

Ofc as a teacher AND a shrink hes gonna know exactly what you need before you need it, be that resources, breaks, or help going back to it. He'll make sure you learn it, even if you're a little mad at him being so strict in the moment :(

When you thank him after and apologize he brushes it off, it was nothing and he knows you were stressed

Take him somewhere please hes fine but wants to make sure you still trust him to fix ur problems and take you places idk why hes so bent on being reliable its endearing and sus asf

Cafe study dates :) he does his thing but monitors you closely, helping when necessary

Knows exactly how to explain things and never ONCE gets impatient

His presence becomes invisible even when hes helping you. You hear his voice and accept his help, but you almost forget hes a person until he touches you. It's really nice for feeling like you're able to focus on your own thing without feeling lonely

If you manage to stump him hes VERY impressed and rewards you somehow ankwifusk

After a big test he spends a whole day in with you, reading aloud and playing with your hair while a relaxing tea cools on the table next to you both.

EFFICIENCY IAJWJUFJET he studied for the bar and went thru all of law school, not to mention he keeps up his review strategies from college to make sure hes always prepared

Hes got his own planner for YOUR assignments and helps you break them down

If you need help he'll send resources but hes really busy so hes confident you can find help

Doesn't trust Vyn so he wont call him himself, but if you go to the psych hes got no issue (lie)

Reads up on your major between cases it's so funny and celestine is in hysterics

Hes so sweet about reminding you to do things and will sit with you if you have trouble getting started otherwise. Always makes sure to reassure you afterwards that you're not incapable and he's not babying you out of pity, he wants to help and since that helps you do things more easily he'll always help however he can.

Lets you search under his account since he gets most news sites for free, be it through connections or a minor expense he'll never tell you about

Loves staying somewhere quiet and comfy when helping you out, so if you aren't at his or your home, he's taken you to a library

After a test he slow dances with you in his flat after taking you for an evening window shopping and eating small local snacks

You tease him about kisses as rewards for correctly answered questions? He's loosening his tie and leaning closer, embarrassed but fully ready to kiss you... is he excited? The way he's whispering "is it right?" after each question is enough to make you laugh, enjoying his light and genuine smile every time you confirm and the little furrow in his brow when you get one wrong

He gets pent up and when you finish the sheet he's pulling you in fast by the back of your neck

Loves when you make flashcards, he's excited to quiz you. It makes him feel properly helpful and he loves your smile when you recall a term correctly

Goes out to get coffee every now and again and always comes back with a flower for you, be it picked from between the sidewalk or bought from a vendor

You're in his lap (ofc) and his head is over your shoulder. He's likely familiar with the subject, so he doles out rewards and lil punishments of his own accord. With every correct answer, he presses a kiss of random length to your cheek, laughing when you get huffy at a chaste peck. However, wrong answers have him biting your earlobe. The first time he did it your breath hitched, but you quickly realized it wasn't sexual when he dug his sharp canine into it just enough to hurt without being damaging. Your blush was worth the slap on the arm (if ur into pain. Uhhhh idk what to say wjdjjwr have fun getting things wrong on purpose 😭)

Likes helping you study in open areas, so if you're down he'll take you to the building with the most windows on campus, the plaza, or some remote location he knows abt thru his work

Is SO prepared, has a duffel bag just for helping you out filled with review materials he made himself, your favorite snacks, and somehow, the exact amount of water you need for that outing

If you're taking a moment alone to focus, hes running off and making a pile of interesting or pretty things hes bought or found while you're busy and presents them to you when you're done

Wants to be touching you the whole time this is not optional

Knows your music taste and puts smth on when appropriate if you like but makes sure you're focused when you need to be

If you're in a funk and just cannot get into the right mindset, he knows exactly what you need to fix it

Need comfort after a hard test? He does what your mother used to do when you were younger, and to your surprise it's still effective

If you like making your notes pretty he buys you stationery

Makes you a discreet recording device so you can listen to lectures for anything you missed

After a hard test he takes you to do something active or spend an evening in his shop, reliving the past and making silly impressions of way-back-when

Makes a lil digital him on your phone in case he can't help you and it reminds you of coping strategies and locks your apps until break time 😭

She remembers studying for the bar and does everything she can to help you out

Shes the most willing of all of them to go to the others, here's her thought process

Vyn knows you by now and can offer the best suggestions of what's needed both emotionally and for the best learning possible. Artem knows all the organization hacks, seeing as he's found ways to combat his time-blindness. Marius knows college resources that are available to students and non-students and who to ask for tutoring help, plus he's paying for any textbooks you need of his own accord. Luke knows how to make learning fun or engaging enough without being distracting so you can stay focused but happy!

She's there with you the entire time, pressing soft kisses to your free hand when you get frustrated. She's making tea and leaving it on your desk, heading to another room since you're in a funk with being distracted a little too easily. She's setting break timers and whisking you away from your chair to feed you cookies she baked the night before in preparation for your study session today.

She wishes she could help you more often, but she'll take what she can get and takes pride in knowing artem's time management strategies are really making a difference

In the beginning of school, she walks with you to any offices of teachers you haven't met before to discuss the year's expectations, academic supports, and to get a better sense of them as a person

Kisses after every meeting and test! And while you're doing homework, if you're struggling, she gives you a kiss after every completed assignment

If you have an IEP and it isn't being honored, even after you try advocating for yourself, she approaches the teacher with your permission

Will go up to bat for you if you need things put in place since schools often push back on any supports

Wants to hear everything about your day, regardless if you're venting or happily rambling. She wishes she could tell you about her's in return, but it's all far too confidential.

Praises improvement very nonchalantly, and calms you when something goes wrong. If there's an issue with a grade or you're struggling, she tends to jump straight to solutions before sympathy. A quick reminder is all it takes for her to give you some support, but she never lets you sulk

After a hard test she likes to set up a romantic candlelit bath, complete with bath salts and rose petals. She's going to spoil you all night, no excuses!

Your girlfriend was coming over to your home to help in a lawsuit your condo association had filed. They’d been unfairly fining you for years, but now they decided to sue you over water damages you weren’t responsible for. MC was helping you run through their declaration and take the necessary photos to present in court.

To her surprise, she found you on your shower floor, drenched and pruny. Despite the wet, she could see tears streaming down your face as your head laid against the shower wall. Turning off the water, she crouched to your level.

“Hey, sweets. Mind coming with me?” she whispered, moving a strand of hair from your face.

She coaxed you to stand and rid your body of the excess water before leading you out of the shower and sitting you on the toilet cover. There, she dried you as you came out of your daze. No matter how you fussed, she wouldn’t let you take the towel. MC quietly left for a moment and returned with your favorite piece of clothing for when you were sad, prompting you to breathe a laugh.

Dry and clothed, you followed her to the bedroom where she sat you down and rubbed your calves gently.

She laughed against your lips as you fell backwards into the pillows, dragging her with you.

I REALLY like that YES he has money and uses it but isn’t the down to earth rich person trope? He acknowledges his responsibility and power and uses it to his advantage, but doesn’t get lost in either side of himself. He’s still a good amount of trope tho

He’s pouty and playful while retaining a really nice balance (albeit somewhat hidden) between that and being able to make hard and fast decisions as a CEO.

Tears of Themis: Symbolism

After reading this thread on twitter, I expanded on some of the symbolism in my discord server, and figured folks out here might like to see it too ^-^

~

Themis - Personification of Divine Law

The Ancient Greeks were very fond of their personification of abstract concepts, many of whom remain famed to this day - Chronos of time, Eros of desire, Gaia of the Earth, Nemesis of retribution, Nike of victory, and many more.

Themis is perhaps a lesser known name, but only because her modern incarnation is Lady Justice. Her figure stands outside courthouses and important government buildings across the world, representing fairness in law - though in truth many fail to live up to these simple standards.

The loading screen of Tears of Themis shows the classical depiction - the scales on which she balances evidence has always been a key feature of her symbolism. The other elements came later -

• a sword to show that her judgement was to be respected, that there was power behind her justice. It is unsheathed to show transparency, that it is not a tactic of intimidation.

• the snake taken from the sister of Roman counterpart Justitia, Prudentia, which represents courageous wisdom and the importance of overcoming judgements made from fear rather than caution. In the modern Lady Justice, the snake represents evil.

• and the blindfold, a far later addition to represent the impartiality of Lady Justice's judgement.

Now let's take a look at the pic where MC is in the role of Themis, with her four love interests participating in the symbology.

⚖️ Artem - the Counsel

Artem is indeed holding the scales still, but he is also assisting MC in finding balance. His touch is guiding, not forceful, and he is positioned as standing much higher than MC. He looks down upon her not with hostility or domination, but with a gentle, reverant expression.

He is the guiding force at her right hand side, helping her weigh the evidence without exerting too much of his own influence in her judgements.

Artem is invested in assisting the growth of MC and her own journey, and he is there to give counsel and the benefit of his own experience to help her.

However, with his eyes only on her, he may well be neglecting his own self, and is perhaps prone to pushing himself far too hard as he doesn't treat himself with the same respect he gives MC.

With such a strong focus on weighing the evidence, Artem is someone who struggles with emotions, preferring to sound rational rather than express feelings he struggles with. This is purely down to inexperience, and a lack of prioritising his own happiness 😭

👁️ Vyn - the Visionary

Vyn may well be removing the blindfold here, but he could equally be presenting it, offering MC the choice of whether to take true impartiality, or to take her own personal opinions into account when making judgements.

Do we yet know which is preferable, to be objectively impartial or subjectively informed? Themis herself was objectively impartial, but her rulings while always fair were not necessarily to the benefit of all.

For a human to attempt such impartiality, they would be cold indeed, and ultimately fail. Vyn is there to help MC see the truth of matters, to know when to be objective, and when to trust in her own instincts.

Additionally however, the blindfold can represent trickery, in which case he is again offering her the truth, or intending to keep such machinations from her view.

With such a strong focus on the blindfold, Vyn is someone who is hiding a lot, but who will willingly reveal these things to someone he trusts. He relies heavily on his intuition.

Alas, he also expects the same as others, so getting to know him may be rather frustrating at times 🥺

⚔️ Luke - the Knight

Luke is bleeding upon the sword, cut by the power behind MC's judgement, and her unsheathed transparency and honesty.

And yet, he remains on one knee, his other hand in a fist upon his chest, in a pose of knightly subservience.

He is showing upfront that he will sacrifice his own happiness and feelings for MC, his loyalty unshakeable no matter what befalls him. He is also, perhaps, of more frail mortality than the others, and his disregard for his own blood leaving his body is a worrying trait.

With such a strong focus on the sword, to the extent he bleeds, Luke is someone who has strong emotions and is liable to let his heart rule his head. He is not naturally deceptive, but does act to protect MC first and foremost.

He is in empathy overdrive, which is, no pun intended, a double edged sword 🥺

💔 Marius - the Sacrifice

Marius wears an ouroborus on his neck, true, the snake eating its own tail in a symbol of eternity and inevitability.

But it is his right hand that shows us his true intents, a golden snake wrapped around his wrist and hand, dripping down and held at a safe distance from MC.

He is drenched in the symbology of courageous wisdom, of the importance of being cautious, not fearful, and he has placed himself as willing sacrifice to the symbol of evil, so that it doesn't even get a chance to be seen by MC let alone attack her.

The snake however is of gold, a display of ostentatious wealth, and a sign that Marius hides his noble actions behind a smokescreen of playboy aesthetic. It is a misdirection, the dazzle of wealth used to distract the viewer from his suffering in silence, his struggles hidden from those around him.

And yet, he holds the snake, his eyes fixed upon it, intent on protecting MC at a cost only to himself.

With such a strong focus on the snake, Marius is someone who doesn't wish to burden others, to the extent he is content to damage himself, hiding that alongside everything else.

He is also willing to be perceived in a negative light, and has a tendency to see himself as the snake, rather than the one who is keeping the snakes at bay.

He is a difficult man to unravel, and may appear to have a shifting personality. Ultimately however, he is a noble soul with a good heart 🥺

TOT: Ignorance?

Spoilers for TOT!

Imagine if, for whatever reason or development, you end up losing your memories - not all of them however, just ones involving the investigations you've been on + other semi-threatening occasions.

And the guys (or, your guy)... decide that you might be happier this way - things were getting dangerous for you, you were starting to get weighed down by the confidential information on your shoulders, and...

It's... it's been a while since you managed to smile at him like that. Like the two of you were the only things in that moment and nothing could stand in your way.

Your eyes are brighter, like when he first met you. Your gaze doesn't hold as much knowledge as it used to, but you seem happier, more freed.

Despite how past you would only scold him for wanting to shield you from your memories, he does just that. You are no longer a member of the organisation - not an active one, anyways - and you continue with your regular, civilian life.

You do notice that the guys seem a little disappointed sometimes, where it looks like they were expecting you to say more about something but you don't - what happened before you woke up? Were you forgetting something?

You're happy, the ones you care about are safe - so why was there this odd feeling in your gut, like a puzzle missing its last piece?
