Hi! Just had a quick question.im about to watch the batman ninja movies with my brother and we were trying to figure whether to watch it subbed or dubbed. Is one better then the other or....
Thanks!!!
The first movie was dubbed pretty poorly so you actually get the story with it. This problem doesn’t exist with the second movie

Ned’s Personality/Character
It’s hard to describe Ned’s personality/character without sounding like a Nedcy shipper. I am, but that’s not the point. I think it’s where I or any others kind of lose people when talking about it.
Cause remember the entire reason Ned exists was to be Nancy’s love interest and his personality/character is tailored to be exactly that. Edna Stratemeyer (Harriet’s sister) once called him perfect husband material for Nancy.
I think this is why people understand why people ship Ned and Nancy when they read the books (specifically originals). Which I feel is a key component to writing Ned that is lost in a lot of the other versions of him. Book Ned is the blueprint for what is required to be Nancy Drew’s love interest.
You don’t have to make everyone ship them you just have to get them to understand why she’s with him. Don’t make it that she’s with him because he’s a nice and sweet guy. That’s only part of who he is. Write that without forgetting that he’s clever, curious, adventurous, selfless, brave, capable(when the plot demands it), persistent, stubborn, trustworthy, charming, dependable, occasionally impulsive, adaptable, quick-witted, hard-working man who can honestly get a little vindictive at times but we can discuss that later.
Nancy has said multiple times and in a few different ways she like having Ned around because they actually think very similarly. Also that that makes him a really good person to talk cases with because he understands how her mind works and yet can provide some insight from his own point of view. This is shown more explicitly in the rare cases where he’s left to investigate by himself, Mystery of the Winged Lion is a great example of this where his friend Dave jokingly calls him “Nancy Drew” for getting really into the fact their room was broken into.
Ned’s meant to hit all the bases for what Nancy needs in a relationship. This might be the slightest bit controversial (not in a bad way), but if you create another character to be Nancy’s “perfect” love interest, chances are you might just make Ned again (maybe without realizing it).
Also Frank and Joe fit these bases too in their own way. Doesn’t make them Neds though.
This is just a long rambly way of saying, some people seem to stop Ned at the generic love interest level, where his personality/character is being nice and attracted to another character. A specific character’s love interest can be completely different from a generic one because it has to suit their desires and needs from a relationship. Not to mention that Ned is still his own person while being her love interest. Which is really important when writing love interests.
Ned actually has a personality, can it be used?

The Clue in the Diary
Nancy: Are you trying to romance me?
Ned *temporarily steals her car then later rips off it's bumper with his bare hands*: Yeah
Nancy: It's working

I made myself sad again. I randomly woke up and thought, “What if other characters wrote letters to Kate like Nancy did at the end of SPY?”
Like can you imagine Carson writing a letter or Ned or even Hannah? Tbh even thinking Bess and George technically could is making me emotional cause they knew her too. Even Frank and Joe could do it.

The original clue crew is why I’m a simp for two friend groups meeting and falling in love cause honestly it did it so well
Nancy and Ned: Interesting dynamic, saving each other and the day constantly, worked well together, could practically read each other’s minds,  will go through hell and back together with no hesitation, they’re humble but won’t hesitate to brag about each other, and casual mutual simping.
George and Burt: Competitive with each other, both challenging each other and others together, George is shy and a bit closed off about her feelings but Burt isn’t, April and Andy before April and Andy existed but April is also kind of a jock.
Bess and Dave: Extreme mutual simping and it’s great, very adorable, tall and small, Dave is Bess’ spaghetti noodle not because she likes food but because that is what his body looks like, the ones who would like to not die every five minutes, seriously they are the only ship that probably won’t stress you out in the entire universe.
Particular ships aside, they’re all friends. Like good friends. They’re not just together because they like another person in the group, obviously it started like that cause it had to start somewhere, but they’re all friends. I know that that’s a basic thing, but friend groups that entirely rely on one person are boring. They only rely on Nancy for mysteries, not for keeping them all together.
It’s a good dynamic.

Ned’s Personality Small Addition
In my original warning for upcoming rants/post I mentioned why I think later Ned’s have gotten messed up and it’s really simple so this will be a rare shorter post from me
Later things write him more like Nancy’s boyfriend, rather than Nancy’s boyfriend. Which are two different things. The first focuses more on the love interest bit that leads to him being this generic token boyfriend character. The second puts focus on the character that’s getting a love interest and what that love interest should be, and I think you get a fuller character because of it.
Cause what Nancy needs in a love interest is different than let’s say Bess or George. Really you can say every character in existence deserves a love interest that suits them. In the books he’s adventurous, brave, willing to go through hell and back, able to stop her from getting murdered (repeatedly), loves mysteries, and more. He’s similar to Nancy, they’re both very investigative-minded people. He also helps her out in other ways because canonically, the only science she’s good at is forensics. He’s a good person to talk through mysteries with. He was practically the total package (for her).
Saying all that, this or the other post isn’t about me shipping Nedcy. It’s just that the only reason Ned exists is to be Nancy’s boyfriend, and while the original books did a good job of making him more than a love interest. It’s still the reason he’s there. He was made to be compatible with her, but being compatible doesn’t mean you end up together. Which is a whole different post.
I think that’s it for fighting for what I will always fight for, Ned getting the opportunity to be the fully-fleshed out character he once was and not a boring token generic boyfriend/love interest type character

I think I put into words how different Game!Ned is from Book!Ned, in a way I actually like and kinda fits their vibes
Book!Ned is a regular guy who wanted more excitement in his life, but really didn’t know how to get it. Like he would go on (out of country) school trips or whatever else that could be considered adventurous. It wasn’t until he met Nancy that he found the adventure and excitement that he was looking for. So he does his best to support her and be the boyfriend she deserves cause just being with her is more exciting than chasing any criminal, any near-death experience, or winning any football game.
Game!Ned is a regular guy who wants more excitement in life, but is too anxious and unsure on how to get it. Maybe he tries to fill in what he’s missing by living vicariously through his more adventurous friends or things that some may consider adventurous, that aren’t too out of the box. Meeting Nancy didn’t change much. She’s probably dragged him into somethings, but he’s never tried to be more included. He supports her, worries for her while staying on the sidelines. He loves her, but something still holds him back from diving into a more exciting life.
Saying all that, I’m now realizing that SEA would’ve actually been a great start to making Game!Ned more like Book!Ned
