My guilty pleasure right now is watching luxury hotel reviews and I found this british guy who keeps accidentally clipping into the backrooms.
He's unintentionally making the best liminal horror content on youtube

I feel like I see "Jockington grows the beard" taken super literally a lot, and I haven't really seen anyone discuss the other meaning of "Growing the Beard". It's a phrase that is generally applied to tv shows and refers to the moment when that show finds it's footing and the quality has marked improvement (referencing Commander Riker on Star Trek TNG growing a beard in season 3 and the show getting better at the same time).
So in this case, it likely means that Jockington will have some character development/emotional depth in future chapters. (Maybe not the most surprising with all the speculation that he and Catti will show up in a future dark world)
And he'll probably also literally grow a beard

i think this video compilation demonstrates it better than i ever could, but one aspect of queen's character i feel deserves more attention is that while she certainly is a villainess, and does antagonize the party with all the regal mockery that entails,
much of what comes off as her being "mean" isn't quite that. she's far less eager to get under people's skin than i think she gets credit for, and a large part of that can be attributed to two things. first off, queen is simply a very blunt person. a lot of what at first appear to be mocking remarks are actually just her no-frills stating what she believes to be true. (often, they don't even come off as mocking at all.)
sometimes, her off-the-cuff comments even take the form of compliments, or of queen trying to bring the others on board with her antics.
and both swatch's accounts of what she does in her free time and queen's own behavior if you don't recruit anyone from cyber world in castle town both add to this — or rather, to how it's evident that one thing queen prioritizes is those antics. "having a good time" is a defining part of queen's motivations.
and secondly, let's take a look at what is perhaps the thesis statement of queen's character;
queen is, in a roundabout way, trying to be just the same placating platonic ideal of a darkner that ralsei is.
she's trying to be exactly what her fate requires of her — but in that, much of her behavior towards them is recontextualized as a botched attempt to give them everything she believes they want. of course, like with tenna, spamton, and all the rest, this leads to her treating her subjects poorly in an attempt to achieve that goal. but again, that's not something she does without reason — everything about her is put into the very same context as it is for the other darkners. having your entire existence hinged on how "useful" of an object you are will screw anyone up, even when you've been "useful" forever and mistakenly believe you're the one in control as a result, like queen does. there's motive and societal context behind the way she behaves, and no matter how you slice it, useful or not, being an object isn't the fate any darkner ought to have. all this to say, though, it's easy to continue to see through her similarities to ralsei that she's far from a "mean-for-fun" sadist.
and this also ties in to the themes of deltarune as a whole, too! often, we are presented with characters that are initially presented as "scary" or "mean". but when we take a closer look, there's a lot more going on with them and a lot more reasoning for why they are the way they are than many initially assume.
i think a part of why this often gets missed about her character is because, unlike what many have come to expect from confident characters with deeper-seated issues, queen isn't hiding behind a mere veneer of confidence. her confidence being so genuine — and her bluntness being so, well, blunt — are a part of what make her this way in the first place. she may not be able to understand the feelings of others, but that doesn't mean she's always trying to hurt those feelings. there's more going on than you'd think you'd find at first glance.

little kids make me laugh. i was at a party yesterday and a kid was there and she noticed that i have a long straight cut along the length of my thumb and asked about it, so i told her it was a cat scratch, almost healed, didn't hurt. and then she was sorta staring and touching it for a bit and went "you had bone surgery. because there were termites in your bones."
so i played along and went "oh man, i hope they got em all!" and she went "no. they put in more." lmao
