five years and agent whisper doesn't remember a time when pandora has called all operatives from missions, to close ranks. the air is thick with tension, a palpable unease that thrums like a heartbeat. for someone like romeo, this causes the hair on the back of his neck to rise. he's trained to find the clues, to piece together information, to find the answers that are right in front of him and deduce an outcome, a possibility.

there's just nothing for him to see, now.

extra training and examinations. were they not good enough? did something happen that compromised pandora and atlantis? with no debrief, agent whisper only has his own thoughts to keep him going.

the sting of the hot springs is enough to keep his mind from running down every wayward thought, to keep himself focused on the singular mission all operatives have been given: stand by. he closes his eyes, leans his head back, and sinks further into the bubbling, hot waters that lick over each aching muscle. stand by, continue as normal, train and train, and wait and wait. it should be easy enough. nothing is ever that easy.

he hears footsteps and knows that the hot springs will have more people soon enough, coming to them so early in the morning just meant he had a little quiet before the buzz of atlantis took over.
