Mitsuko Souma: A-9 to A-6
About an hour had passed since Mitsuko had run into Iijima. She’d washed the blood from her ear — using his water, of course — and although the injury was far from insignificant, she felt much more confident now that she had cleaned it off a little. Still hurts like a bitch. Even worse now, probably because the adrenaline’s wearing off. I’m gonna get a fucking migraine at this rate. All that Mitsuko wanted was a moment or two of relaxed, quiet rest. Apparently that was too much to ask. Iijima was much more social than Tanizawa had been, probably because he wanted to get into Mitsuko’s pants. He asked her all sorts of idiotic questions. “Have you ever been in a fight?" “I heard you made out with a chick that one time, is that true?" “Was it Shimizu? She looks pretty butch to me, don’t you think?" Each question was punctuated by awkward silence, as Mitsuko took small bites of bread from her pack to avoid answering. She supposed it might come off as rude, but he wasn’t even being subtle, and at least she ate like a human being. When Iijima wasn’t blathering away, he was taking enormous mouthfuls of bread, pulling another loaf from his bag after devouring the first. What an idiot. Maybe I shouldn’t shoot him. Let him die of starvation instead. That’ll teach you a lesson, huh, Iijima? Table manners could cost you your life out here.
Eventually Iijima finished his meal. Barely stifling a yawn, he asked Mitsuko if she’d like to get some sleep. He’d watch over her while she did. Â
When did I ever indicate I might be tired?
It was hardly even dark out, but after she turned down his offer, he continued to insist. His voice sounded almost desperate and all at once Mitsuko could see right through him. He was going to kill her in her sleep, just as she had tried to do to Tanizawa only hours ago. He was playing her just the same way she’d been playing him, although much, much less skillfully. Her eyes flicked to the pile where they had put their weapons. It was within both of their reach. Mitsuko wasn’t sure that she could grab any faster than he could, although she couldn’t imagine Keita Iijima beating her in a fight. Still, it was risky. And Mitsuko was far, far too tired of having to take risks.
Just as she decided to wait it out, just as she decided to continue the charade, just as she decided that her luck might have run out, a stick snapped in the distance. Leaves bristled. Someone was coming.
Guess I spoke too soon about luck, huh?
"Ya hear that … ?" Iijima murmured, his head whipping around. Mitsuko reached for the weapon pile, her fingers finding Iijima’s uzi. A figure approached them, closer, closer, a girl in a sailor suit with a braid that looked like a lobster’s tail. Mayumi Tendo (Female Student #14) stumbled out of the bushes. She stopped in her tracks as a loud rattling sound rang out. By the time it ended, she was lying facedown in the dirt, blood soaking through her uniform, chest riddled with bullets. Mitsuko lowered Iijima’s uzi, no, her uzi, it was hers now, grabbed her bag, and bolted southwest, leaving Iijima shaken and wide eyed, staring at Mayumi Tendo’s corpse. 20 students remaining.

Keita Iijima (boy #2) A-9 to E-3 Keita and Mitsuko had spent about an hour at their resting place by the northern coast. He felt nothing short of exhausted after so long without any sleep, but he still wouldn't dream of falling asleep next to Mtsuko. Although both of them had put their weapons down, she could just as easily pick one up and quickly dispose of him. In fact, he had hoped she would fall asleep soon, so that he could do just that. He had suggested it to her, but she said she wasn't that tired. Keita wondered if she maybe didn't trust him that much yet either. Bad sign, man... I gotta watch my back for sure! He had attempted to make more small-talk, but was incredibly bad at it (his questions varying from "So are ya really a whore? Like really?!" to "Are your funbags real ooor..?"). In the end, even he knew he had taken it too far and the mood seemed really awkward. So Keita shut up for a while. Now, he had just finished eating his second piece of bread (of course he had more that he had taken from Mizuho and Noriko, but he couldn't show this to Mitsuko), when he heard something. The noise seemed to be coming from east, so whomever was drawing closer probably followed the coastline. "Ya hear that...?" He whispered, just as he could make out the silhouette of a sailor suit uniform in the distance. Mitsuko had been eating a piece of bread as well. Now that she heard the sound of footsteps and caught a glimpse of the approaching girl, she quickly reached for the Uzi and didn't hesitate to pull the trigger, aiming it in the girl's direction. Keita's eyes widened in surprise as Mitsuko grabbed his Uzi. W-What? He had no clue what was going through Mitsuko's head. This all seemed to happen so fast. In a matter of seconds, she had gone from being an innocent girl to trying to murder someone! Even more confusing, Keita could see no reason as to why Mitsuko just decided to fire like this. The figure, which he know recognized as Mayumi Tendo (girl #14), didn't appear to have a shooting weapon. And she hadn't even gotten close enough to attack yet. So the idea that Mitsuko would jump on a chance to kill her right away, was...
It was as if it all suddenly dawned on him. Mitsuko must have had the same plan as him, to team up for a while then stab the other in the back. But with Mayumi crashing their team-up, it might have been one person too many. She was done playing house with him. Now she was just playing. S-Shit!
Without taking the time to grab the handgun, which was next to Mitsuko (and since she now had his Uzi, he would rather get away as quickly as possible), Â Keita jumped to his feet. His heart felt as it might leap out of his chest as he sprinted away, running straight south, away from the gunfire. To make sure he avoided any bullets, he made sure to run in a zig-zag pattern. Even though he wasn't particularly fast, he felt certain he could out-run a girl. C-Can't believe... I'd trust hardcore Souma! Man, what a fucking joke... He didn't slow down, not even when running past the lighthouse to see if he could hide inside. Instead he kept running until he reached another, bigger building. If he remembered correctly, it was the Tourist Association. He finally dared to look back, but couldn't see Mitsuko anywhere. H-Heh... Shook her off, thank fucking god... As angry as he was at himself for being stupid enough to think he was the only one playing between the two of them, he was even angrier at her. Especially for snatching his awesome machinegun. Fuck this... Keita was back to square one. He didn't even get to fire the machinegun once. The thought of this bummed him out further and he kicked the dirt with the tip of his shoe, pouting like a child.

Haruka Taniawa & Izumi Kanai (Part 2) - F7 - Confession
"This trip is going to be the trip of a lifetime!" said Haruka excitedly.
It was the last evening before their field trip and Yukie had asked Haruka to come at her home and help her pick the outfits she would bring on the trip. While they would have to wear their traditional sailor suit uniform during the day, they were allowed to change for the evening activities, a new that caused major excitement among class 3-B’s girls.
The two best friends were now going through Yukies clothes splatted all around her bed.
"What about that blue shirt for the first evening?" asked Haruka.
Yukie shrugged.
"I guess that could be good." said the breaded girl in a quiet voice.
Haruka gave a worried glance at her best friend who was always so hyper and cheerful. Why was her friend so down? Especially the day before the field trip she worked so hard to organize with male class representative Motobuchi?
"What’s going on, Yukie? Is there something wrong?" asked a concerned Haruka.
Yukie sighed and looked sadly at her best friend.
"Do you remember the talents show I wanted to organize and give all the profits to local charities?" asked Yukie.
Haruka nodded.
"Well, we had a students’ council meeting today and it won’t work out." said Yukie in a disappointed voice.
Haruka looked sadly at her best friend. She knew how much that project means to her best friend. After having hugged Yukie tightly, Haruka asked.
"What happened?"
Yukie sighed once again as she lowered her head.
"Well, most of the class representatives agreed with the project. Even Motobuchi did, as long as we made sure the show make some profits…However, Yamada from Class 3-A and Shibata from Class 2-C thought it was a total waste a time. I tried to change the project a little so they would finally agree, but they still disapprove." said Yukie, looking down at the ground.
"Wait, don’t you just need only half of the class representatives to agree with your project?" asked Haruka, slightly confused.
"Technically, yes, but if we really make that show, every class representative will have to work together and I don’t want to force Yamada and Shibata to work on something they are so vehemently against." explained Yukie.
Haruka stared at her best friend for a moment, not surprised in the least. They have known each other for ages and Yukie had always been like that. Always trying to please everyone and their mother, always making sure everyone was happy and always making sure everyone was getting along. This concern for everyone’s opinion maybe came from her upbringing with her father, a bossy and authoritarian soldier in the Special Defense Forces who never let his wife or his daughter a say in any of the family decisions. Deeply attached to democratic ideals that weren’t very popular in the country, Yukie always listened to everyone’s opinion and was always open to compromises. That’s what made her such a rallying and inspiring leader. As Yukie was staring sadly at the ground while playing with one of her braids, Haruka could not help but smile a little.
"Do you believe in that project?" asked Haruka in amused voice.
"Of course, I do! You know that, Haru!" replied Yukie, still looking at the ground.
"Then, go for it! You have already convinced more almost all the class representatives and you’ve tried to make compromises with the ones who disagree, that’s more than enough. So, go for it, Yukie! And if Yamada and Shibata refuse to work with you guys, well you will do without their help!"
Yukie looked up, a smile brightening up her face.
"You think so, Haru?"
Haruka nodded fiercely.
"Yes…You know, Yukie, you a terrific leader but  , sometimes, you care too much about everyone’s opinion. You can’t please everyone all the time, you have to accept that."
Yukie nodded.
"I guess you are right, Haruka. I’m glad I have you to give me the drive to go for my projects." said Yukie, grateful for her best friend’s advices.
"I know, I know, I’m amazing. What would you do without me?" joked Haruka as Yukie laughed out loud.
"Maybe I would have a best friend who isn’t so full of herself" replied Yukie with a snarky smile as Haruka laughed too.
"Maybe, but you wouldn’t have your talents show!" said Haruka, smiling widely.
"True! I’m so glad you convinced me to go for it! You are totally right, Haru! I can’t wait to see how it will go. Maybe I should ask Nanahara to play at the show?" wandered Yukie, having found back her usual energetic and enthusiastic demeanour.
"Or maybe you should ask Nanahara something else?" replied Haruka in a teasing voice.
Yukie blushed furiously.
"What could I ask him?"
Haruka rolled her eyes and pretended to be thinking furiously about an answer.
"Oh, I don’t know…Maybe ask him out on a date?"
"What were you saying about the blue date..I mean dress?" muttered Yukie in a high-pitched voice, trying to pretend she hadn’t heard anything.
Haruka laughed. While she wasn’t sure she approved of Yukie’s crush on Nanahara, she wanted her best friend to be happy and if Nanahara made her happy, then so be it.
"Come on, Yukie! You’ve been crushing him for ages and, honestly, you have nothing to lose in asking him out. " said Haruka earnestly.
Still blushing, Yukie asked in an anxious voice.
"What if he doesn’t like you?"
Haruka shrugged.
"Well, at least, you will be able to move on…" And after a pause. "And he will be a dead man, of course. No one is allowed to turn down my best friend on my watch." added Haruka in a fake threatening tone.
Yukie laughed at Haruka’s threat.
"Yeah, I guess, you’re right. Once again. I think I will tell him about my feelings during the trip." said Yukie, in a nervous but enthusiastic voice.
"Believe me, in those matters, honesty is the best policy."replied Haruka in a confident tone.
- - - - - -
"But do you really think we can do that, Haruka? H-How? "
Haruka fell silent for a moment. How? That was the question that had been haunting her since the start of the program. Was there a way out? Or was she deluding herself? No, she had to do something. For Yuka, for Yumiko, for everyone. Even if it’s hopeless, she had to at least try. Wasn’t she the one saying how action is always the best solution?
" We’ll find a way, Izumi. I’m sure Satomi and Yukie will come up with something once we find them. We can’t find greatest genius than Satomi, right? And Yukie is the best at putting plans into action" said Haruka confidently.
She took a brief pause as she lowered her head.
" And Yuka…She wanted us…you, Yukie, Satomi and I…she wanted us to survive and eat loads of pies for her once we are out of here." continued Haruka, with a little smile, even if her voice broke a little.
Izumi couldn't hold back a small chuckle. That would be such typical Yuka last words, wouldn't it?
"We have to then, don't we? Eat a lot of pie. I'm not against that idea," she said, smiling to Haruka, although she more than anything wanted to break out in tears again. "W-We just need to find Yukie and Satomi and then... T-Then we'll find a way, like you said!" Izumi said, her voice full of hope. The tiny bit of hope she had felt with Yumiko had now returned to the fullest upon meeting Haruka. What were the odds of that happening? My, she really was lucky, after all.
"S-So," Izumi continued, looking uncertanly at her friend. "Did something else happen to you... h-here, on the island?"
Haruka sighed deeply. Yes, so much happened since the beginning of the Program. And Haruka knew she had to say it to Izumi, even if she dreaded that moment. Honesty was the best policy, right? Izumi had the right to know what Haruka did yesterday, how she took and destroyed a life, an innocent life.
"Yeah…Something else happened…Yesterday morning, Yuka and I met Yamamoto in the residential area…"
Haruka’s voice was calm, but under the stern confidence, was filled with self-hatred and guilt. For a moment, she had thought about telling to Izumi how they had seen Yuko’s body just after, but she decided against it. Seeing Yuko’s body was no excuse to what she did. On the contrary…She could still see the clover-like flowers Yamamoto took out of his bag as he fell on the ground, she could still hear his voice trying to reassure her as he was dying and, most of all, she could still feel his hand in hers as he breathed his last breath.
Izumi listened, waiting for Haruka continue telling her about their meeting with Yamamoto. When she fell silent, Izumi frowned lightly. Then she remembered, Yamamoto had died too. Had Yuka and Haruka gotten attacked, along with him? And... On top of Yamamoto's dead body, Noriko's limp body had rested.
"You met Yamamoto... And Noriko as well?" She asked, her voice shaking as she spoke her dead's best friend name. "D-Did you see them die?"
Haruka raised her head, confused. She didn’t understand why Izumi thought Noriko was with them. I wish she had, thought Haruka. She would have given everything to spend a little more times with Noriko, her kind and appeasing words. If Noriko had been with them, maybe things wouldn’t have turned out so screwed up.
"Nori? No…I, we haven’t seen her, why? " asked Haruka.
Izumi lowered her head.
"When I... When I was walking through the residental area," she began, picturing the image of the narrow street and the two bodies laying in the middle of it. "I saw Yamamoto. A-And Noriko too. Her body was on top of his. I thought... I thought perhaps they died together."
No, that wasn't quite true, Izumi realized. She quickly added: "E-Even though, Noriko's name wasn't on the same announcement as Yamamoto's... I thought that was strange."
In the end, Izumi had no clue why the two were together like that. It didn't seem to add up.
Haruka shook her head. She knew too well Noriko wasn’t with Yamamoto when he died. Maybe Noriko found Yamamoto’s body and was killed on the spot by someone else? That would be the kind of thing Noriko would do, staying with a dead classmate, not wanting to leave him all alone.
"No, her name wasn’t announced in the same report…And she wasn’t with Yamamoto when he died…I know it because.. "
Haruka took a deep breath. Saying it out loud was harder that she expected. Saying it out loud when she was sitting there calmly made it even more real. She had killed him, she really did. She took away his life, because of her stupid fears and prejudices.
"Because I…I killed him…"
Haruka lowered her head once again. She felt tainted. She didn’t deserve to be sitting with Izumi right now, Izumi who would never think to hurt anyone.
Haruka’s heart sank as she admitted what she did to Yamamoto. As Izumi was staring her in silence, Haruka was trying to fight back the tears that were filling up her eyes. Glancing at Izumi, she knew how disappointed in her she was. And she didn’t blame her. For all her words against the Program, she had totally played the game.
All thoughts surrounding the mystery of why Yamamoto and Noriko had been together, fell out of Izumi's head. Her mouth fell open and she could only muster to stare at Haruka.
She didn't know what to think. Her might felt blank. The only thing that was really clear to her, was that there had to be some mistake.
No, Haruka, you didn't kill him. I know I wasn't there b-but... You're my best friend! You're not a murderer!
Izumi could feel her mouth moving, but no words came out. Her throat felt too dry to speak. Finally, the possibility that Haruka might have acted in self-defence struck her. It didn't seem likely, as Yamamoto always seemed like such a nice guy, but... It still seemed like a more likely possibility than Haruka killing him for no reason.
"D-Did... Did Yamamoto attack you, t-then? I can't believe that..." She finally managed to stutter out, her voice hoarse as if she was struggling to breathe.
Haruka wished she could reply yes, explained how Yamamoto had lost it and tried to attack them. She would like to tell Izumi that she had no choice, that she had to do something to protect Yuka. But she knew perfectly well it wasn’t true.
"No...I thought he was…Being a guy and all…But he wasn’t…he was only looking for Sakura..." mumble Haruka, unable to make a sentence making any sense…Maybe because what happened doesn’t make any sense?
Izumi didn't understand. She stared blankly at Haruka, her eyes trying to find some sort of hidden answer in Haruka's. Something that explained why she would assume a nice guy like Yamamoto would hurt her. And why she would...
Izumi had to look away and took a deep breath.
"That's... awful. But you thought you were doing the right thing, Haru... Y-You thought he would hurt you. Both of you. You didn't know... " Izumi was afraid she would start rambling, but she wanted to find an explanation or excuse, anything that made her chest feel lighter after what Haruka confessed.
Haruka was shaking now. Yamamoto’s kinds words after she shot him were still ringing through her head, making her feel even guiltier, if that was possible. Why couldn’t he hate her for what she did? And why couldn’t Yuka and Izumi blame her? That would make things easier, because that’s all Haruka deserved after what she did.
"I was stupid, Izu…I couldn’t trust him because…because he’s a guy and guys like to hurt people, right? Or I thought so…I was stupid…"
She could still feel the bullet leaving her gun, the shock she felt when she realized that Yamamoto had moved the arm she was aiming for and the bullet ended up in his chest.
Izumi noticed Haruka was shaking. She shifted a bit and put her arms around the other's frame.
"It's alright... R-Really. It was a mistake!" She whispered, hoping her soft voice would make Haruka feel a bit better. What her friend had done was horrible, but she knew Haruka well enough to know she must hate herself for making that kind of mistake. But in the end, the only thing she wanted was to protect Yuka and herself.
"If you didn't and... And he had hurt Yuka or s-something. You would have never forgiven yourself. It's not you, it's this game... It's all the game's fault," she mumbled, thinking about how Yumiko had been so convinced everyone was killing out of fear.
Even though she knew she didn’t deserve it, Izumi’s hug brought her so much relief. She was still her friend, even though she made the worst of the mistakes, Izumi was still there for her, just like Yuka had been.
When Izumi mentioned how Yuka might have been hurt if Haruka hadn’t done anything, she could not help but laugh bitterly.
"Well..In the end, Yuka still died…I trusted Souma because I didn’t want to make the same mistake I did with Yamamoto and look how it ended up…I couldn’t protect her. "
Izumi shook her head. She knew all to well the overwhelming feeling of guilt Haruka must be feeling.
"I feel the same way... I don't think I'll ever forgive myself for not protecting Yumiko. I-Instead, I was completely useless... " He voice faded away as she could feel a lump form in her throat. "B-But like you said, all we can do for them now is revenge, right? W-We'll make them proud, Haruka! All of them!" Izumi finally met Haruka's eyes again, now trying to put on a brave smile.
At hearing Izumi’s word, Haruka forced herself to smile. She had to be strong for her and for Izumi. Crying and feeling guilty over Yamamoto, Yuka or Yumiko would not bring them back. It would only make their death even more pointless. They had to take action, didn’t they.
"Yeah, let’s take down this stupid Program. We have pies to eat, don’t we? " said Haruka in a voice she wanted to be brave and confident.
But before continuing their search for Yukie and Satomi, Haruka had to fulfill one last promise she did to a fallen classmate.
"Izumi, I’ve got something else to tell you. I met Seto and Mayumi earlier this morning." began Haruka in a tense voice. She knew the new could be quite upsetting to Izumi, but she could not forget Seto’s determined face as he vowed to finally admit his feelings for her. Just like Yamamoto, Seto had proved her how guys were maybe not that bad. She could not let him down like that.
Izumi nodded, her face lighting up as Haruka mentioned the pies.
Yuka, I'll happily fulfill your last wish... Very happily!
She broke into a smile, her thoughts interrupted by Haruka who said she had more to tell her.
"Hm?" Izumi asked, not knowing what to expect. "Mayumi and Seto? What... What happened?"
Had someone else died? Izumi felt horrible for Haruka, she had been through a lot during the last day. Well, they all had, but Haruka seemed to be even more haunted by bad luck than she herself was.
Haruka raised her head slightly.
"I met them this morning, Seto and Mayumi. I teamed up with them. Since they were about to eat and I wasn’t hungry, I went away for a moment to search the zone we were in, so we could go explore another zone, as soon as they were doing eating. While I was away, Mayumi panicked and killed him."
Haruka stopped for a moment. She thought about giving more details about why she thought Mayumi freaked out, but decided against so. All Izumi needed to know was that Mayumi was dangerous.
" She was scared he would kill her. So, she killed him and ran away when I found my way back to them. Seto…He…"
Haruka was trying to find the words that could make justice to the love Seto felt for Izumi. Unfortunately, feelings and emotions were never Haruka’s strong points.
"He wanted to find you, Izu…He told that to Mayumi and I…He wanted to tell you that he loved you, Izu." Announced Haruka quietly.
Haruka put her arm around her friend, knowing how such a new could terribly upset her.
Izumi was shocked that someone who seemed as timid as Mayumi would snap like that. She wanted to comment on it, but Haruka's next piece of information made her jaw drop. Seto... liked her?
No, that's not what she had said. Loved her.
B-But... Why?!
Izumi couldn't remember speaking much to Seto, at all. She thought he was a really funny guy, who always made everyone burst out laughing with his comedy routines. Izumi could never have guessed the class clown would harbour feelings like that for her.
"H-He... He said that? But... I don't understand... Why? W-We never even talked! How could he love me?!"
Izumi had never dreamt there was a boy in their class who had those sort of feelings for her. She didn't dare to hope Numai returned her small crush, and the other boys didn't even enter her mind as possible candidates. Hearing this now, in this situation, left her feeling even worse. The knowledge that someone cared about her so deeply, but that this person now was gone, forever...
Seto... I'm sorry. I promise, I won't forget you.
Closing her eyes, Izumi imagined hearing the small boy's loud laughter from accross the classroom, and she couldn't help but smile sadly to herself.
Promise fulfilled, Seto, thought Haruka with a sad smile, still seeing the little boy’s eyes sparking with joy as he talked about Izumi. Haruka deepened her hug with Izumi. She just couldn’t imagine how hard it must be to learn a boy who died a few hours ago loved you, especially when you were in love with someone else who also just died. Numai…Since she found Izumi, Haruka had wandered if she should bring up the boy her friend had a crush on. She was especially uncomfortable about it since she had always made clear to Izumi that she didn’t like his choice at all. But, considering how broken her friend must be right now, she had to say something.
”I’m sorry about Numai, Izumi.” muttered Haruka.
zumi hadn't expected Haruka to mention the name of her dead crush. She tried shrugging, but her body felt too stiff to move much.
"I-It's fine! I haven't... really thought about it, h-honestly," she lied, her eyes wavering. "I mostly thought about you girls. H-How stupid would it be to waste my thoughts on a silly little crush, h-hm?" Izumi tried to laugh lightly, but even to her it sounded forced, so she cut it off and returned to silence.
She had always tried to make sure her friends didn't know just how much she thought about the boy, in an attemt not to seem too pathetic and hung up one someone she barely knew at all. However, during her time on this island she had realized how much it had meant to her, afterall. She stared down at her hands, trying desperately not to cry.
Haruka knew better than to believe Izumi’s attempt at pretending her feelings for Nuami were no more than a silly little crush. Realizing no word could relieve Izumi’s pain, Haruka kept hugging her in silent, just to prove her she was there, she wasn’t alone and things would turn out okay. The two girls hugged in silence for a moment.
"So, let’s get going with the revenge plan!" Haruka said quietly after a moment. Yukie and Satomi were out there somewhere and she, no they would find them.
After giving Yahagi’s gun to Izumi and gave a brief and terse explanation what happened to her, Haruka picked up her bag. She knew the next days would be hard, there wasn’t any doubt about it, but now she was with a friend again, she was able to face anything that would come. Or so she thought.

Hope (part 1)
Izumi Kanai (girl #5) H-8 to F-7 Haruka Tanizawa (girl #12) E-7 to F-7 After looking through most of the houses in the area, even mustering up the courage to call out for people at times, Izumi had given up. It was a ghost town now; completely dead. Her entire journey south had been wasted. A part of her wanted to give up, to walk back to where Noriko's body was laying and sit by her side until the zone was turned into a danger zone. This feeling of hopelessness had been increased as the latest report had included another one of her best friend's name. The idea that Yuka Nakagawa was gone was absolutely surreal; Izumi had been sure if anything, Yuka's cheerful personality and silly jokes would be the only thing to make them get through a situation as horrible as this one. Now that Yuka wasn't there to make them laugh, it seemed more unlikely than they ever would again. T-There's not many left... Izumi realized, a panic of sudden urge hitting her hard. Soon she would her the names of Satomi Noda, Haruka Tanizawa and Yukie Utsumi too. And then it would be over. The thought of her living friends was the only thing that made her decide she had to keep going. Afterall, she had come this far. Now that she was determined to find her friends and find a way out of this, she couldn't just give up. And so, Izumi changed her direction and started heading back north. Lost in her own thoughts, Izumi barely paid attention to where she was. She stopped, looking back to make sure no one had started following her. And that she was still in safe territory. No, she wasn't in a danger zone. Not yet anyway. She needed to avoid those tangerine trees... A breaking twig to her right broke her concentration. Horrified, she raised her head. Her eyes widened in disbelief at who was now standing not too far away from her. Is this a dream? A dream... I-It must be... Izumi sniffed loudly, feeling a stream of hot tears roll down her flushed cheeks. This was it. She was losing her mind. She was seeing things. Because it couldn't be... It couldn't be... "H-Haruka?" She called out, her voice trembling as violently as her petite body did. "H-Haruka!" Haruka was still walking, still searching for her friends. She couldn’t keep Yukie, Izumi and Satomi off her mind. She had to find them, she just had to. And, of course, she also had to find Sakura’s body, to fulfill the promise she made to Yamamoto. Yamamoto…Once again, Haruka felt a wave of guilt and self-disgust. In her mind, Izumi, Yukie and Satomi’s faces let place to the dead figures of Yamamoto, Yuko, Yuka, Yahagi and Seto. What if she didn’t find Izumi, Yukie or Satomi in times? What if she had to go through the loss of another friend? Haruka shook her head. Keep focus, Haro. Just like in volley ; Don’t think about the points the other team did, think about the points your team can do. Breaking down in tears like she did in front of Yahagi’s body was of no use. It would not allow her to find her friends. No, taking actions, like she had done since the start of the program, would. So, she kept walking with a little more determination. It’s only a matter of time before I find them, only a matter of …And that’s when a trembling voice made her turn her head on her right. "H-Haruka? H-Haruka" For a moment, she thought her ears and her eyes were playing tricks on her. She had been looking for her almost 36 hours and there she was, trembling with all her body, Izumi Kanai(Female Student #5), one of her closest friend. A wave of relief went through Haruka’s body, making her feel light-headed for a brief second. "Izumi" said Haruka, in a calm but grateful voice. Upon hearing Haruka say her name, Izumi finally realized it wasn't just a wonderful illusion. Haruka was here, in front of her. This awareness pushed Izumi over the edge. She broke out into full-out sobbing, dashing towards her taller friend. "Haruka!" She cried again, not giving a second thought to the fact that someone might hear them. She threw her arms around her and buried her face in Haruka's chest. "I-Is this for real?" Izumi mumbled. For the first time in a very long time, she felt a sense of pure happiness. Haruka was here. It meant everything would be alright. Izumi couldn't explain why this was, but she knew it was true. With Haruka, she would be safe. Things would be alright again. As she opened up her arms to hug Izumi tightly, a wide smile appeared on Haruka’s face. She couldn’t believe her luck. It was like she found something, something words can’t describe how precious it is and something she thought was gone forever. Of course, she had tried to convince herself that she was sure to find Izumi, Yukie and Satomi at some points, but, since Yuka’s death, a part of her was convinced they were gone forever. Haruka closed her arms around Izumi, not wanting to open them ever again. She rest her hear against Izumi’s hair. "I-Is this for real?" Izumi mumbled through her tears of joy. "Well, except if you ate some weird mushrooms, I think it is." replied Haruka, beaming. She couldn’t believe she just made a joke. She never thought she would find herself happy enough to make a joke ever again. But finding Izumi gave her a new a breath of hope.
"I have been looking for you for ages, Izu. I can’t- I can’t believe it." Haruka whispered, unable to hide her profound joy. Izumi burst out giggling at Haruka's little joke. It felt surreal to actually be laughing again; she had been so certain she never would. She tigtened her grip around Haruka, thinking she would never be able to pull back from this embrace. "I know... I-I never thought I'd see you again, Haruka," Izumi said, closing her eyes. She had expected Haruka's name to soon be read up during one of the announcements. The fact that she was not only still alive, but actually had managed to stumble upon Izumi... Perhaps her bad luck had finally ended? "I wanted to see you s-so bad... All of you," Izumi's voice broke as she thought about the rest of their group, most of whom had already be killed. "B-But... I-I was starting to think it was impossible... T-This must sound so strange, but I'm so happy right now, Haru! I-I'm so happy." If something, apart from Yuka’s joke, had the power to brighten Haruka’s day, it was certainly Izumi’s clear, cheery laugh. And this time, it was no exception. So many memories, so many pyjama parties, so many breaks spent listening to Yuka’s jokes, so many study groups were contained into this laugh. "I know... I-I never thought I'd see you again, Haruka," Izumi said, closing her eyes. Haruka nodded. Words could not describe how happy she was to find her dear, dear friend. She was so happy she found her before something happened to her. While quite resourceful, Izumi had a tendency to only see the best in people and Haruka was scared out of her mind someone would try to take advantage of that. "I wanted to see you s-so bad... All of you," Izumi's voice broke. "B-But... I-I was starting to think it was impossible... T-This must sound so strange, but I'm so happy right now, Haru! I-I'm so happy." "Me too, Izu, me too…Yuka and I, we’ve- " At the mention of Yuka’s name, Haruka let go of Izumi. How could she feel so happy when she was the reason Yuka(and Yamamoto for that matter) were now dead. Because of her actions, her impulsivity and errors of judgement, Yuka and Yamamoto would never get to be happy ever again. Haruka didn’t deserve this joy. When Haruka let go of her, Izumi's heart sunk. She looked up at her friend's face, blinking away her remaining tears and sending her a look of confusion. "Haruka...? What's wrong?" She asked, her voice clearly concerned. Then it hit her. How could she be foolish enough to ask what was wrong? Yuka... Yuka was dead. Not just Yuka, but Noriko and Chisato as well. Izumi bit her lip, feeling her body quiver with guilt and pain. "O-Of course... Yuka, r-right?" A thought suddenly occured to her. Maybe Haruka had seen Yuka's body, just like Izumi herself had discovered Noriko? She remembered crying with her best friend's lifeless body laying in her arms. If Haruka had gone through something similar, of course the memory would be incredibly painful. "Did you... Did you see her? A-After... D-Did you find her...?" Izumi stumbled with the words, not sure how to ask if Haruka had found their dead friend or not. Haruka’s eyes who had been filled with joy and hope moments ago darkened. The pain she has been feeling since she found Yuko’s body and who had only been made worse by the loss of Chisato, Noriko and Yuka reappeared. "Haruka...? What's wrong? "O-Of course... Yuka, r-right?"" Izumi asked. Haruka took a deep breath. There was so much she had to say to Izumi, starting with Yuka and Yamamoto. Izumi had to know what she was getting herself into by joining with her, she had to know the horrible things Haruka did in the last day. Honesty is the best policy, right? She knew she had to. "Did you... Did you see her? A-After... D-Did you find her...?" Izumi stumbled. Haruka replied sternly. "Yuka and I met up at little after we left the school. She’s been with me the whole time. We met Souma during the afternoon and-and even though I didn’t trust her, we teamed up with her. I let my guard down and Souma stabbed Yuka when I was asleep. She died all because of me." Haruka had said all this without any pause in a really straightforward way. She wasn’t the type of person to try to sugarcoat the truth or try to hide some facts. Izumi stared at Haruka, completely in shock. So she had been with Yuka for so long. And then... been with her when she got killed, as well. "Souma? S-So... Souma is playing..." Izumi mumbled, not sure what else to say. Even though Souma only hung out with her gang and they had quite a bad reputation, Izumi still wouldn't have guessed she would easily take part in the Program. Izumi wanted to tell Haruka about Yumiko and the time she had spent with her. And she wanted to hear more about how Haruka and Yuka had spent their time together. But most of all, she wanted to be close to Haruka again. She wanted to snuggle up next to her and have her protective arms wrapped around her. Izumi noticed an open spot in between a couple of bushes not too far to their left. She pointed over to the area and said: "Perhaps we could sit down? I have some things to tell you too..." "Souma? S-So... Souma is playing..." mumbled Izumi. Haruka nodded slowly. Souma’s triumphing when she was holding the gun face appeared in her mind and let place to Yuka’s lying in a puddle of blood. She lowered her head slowly, still hearing Yuka’s raspy breath as she died. Haruka’s heart was contorted with pain and grief. Izumi over to the a spot in between a couple of bushes and said: "Perhaps we could sit down? I have some things to tell you too..." Haruka thought for a moment. On one hand, they had no time to lose. They still had to find Yukie and Satomi and they were running out of time. On the other hand, she wanted to reassure Izumi, to know what she had been through since the Program started and she also wanted Izumi to know about what she did to Yamamoto. And, considering she had been walking for hours, she wouldn’t say no to a break. "Yeah, you’re right, Izu."
The two girls made their way to the spot and sat down, Haruka hugging Izumi with one arm, still so happy to have finally found her, and holding her gun tightly with the other hand, ready to defend her friend from any threat. "So, who goes first?" Haruka asked. Izumi rested her head against Haruka's shoulder, sighing contently. The empty feeling that had been taking over her chest seemed to be lifting, now replaced with feelings of gratefulness and bliss. It felt strange, this roller-coaster ride of emotions that left her feeling too much and at the same time, too little.
"I... I can start," Izumi said, raising her head. She wasn't sure where to begin. Should she mention all the bodies she had seen? There didn't seem to be much point. She drew her breath and started at the important part. "I ran into Yumiko, quite early. She... She called out for me. She wanted to find people, to... To find everyone. I-I thought she was insane for being so open about trusting everyone else, but she said... that we had to. T-That if we don't, we have already lost," Izumi paused to gather her thoughts and to smile softly, the memory of Yumiko warming her heart. She had really been such a great person. It was a shame they never spent more time with her and Yukiko. "She was really brave. She died... protecting me." Saying this out loud made Izumi tear up, and the sudden lump in her throat made it hard to keep talking. "I... I can start," Izumi said, raising her head. "I ran into Yumiko, quite early. She... She called out for me. She wanted to find people, to... To find everyone. I-I thought she was insane for being so open about trusting everyone else, but she said... that we had to. T-That if we don't, we have already lost," Izumi paused. A sad smile appeared on Haruka’s lips. That would be the kind of thing Yukie would say, trying to gather a large group of classmates to try to beat the Program. "She was really brave. She died... protecting me." continued Izumi, as tears filled up her eyes and her voice broke. Haruka lowered her head, drew Izumi closer to her and hugged Izumi even more tightly. She wished she could take Izumi’s pain away, but, once again, just like with Yoshimi, just like the time Izumi told them about her cousin, she just didn’t know what to say. "I’m sorry, Izumi…euh.. I don’t know…I wished I had been there to help you out, guys. " Haruka muttered awkwardly. "Who-Who killed her?" Izumi smiled again as she felt Haruka pull her closer. Even though she was sad thinking about what happened to Yumiko, a part of her also felt happy and proud that she got to share the story of Yumiko's bravery to someone else. "It was Oda," she said, biting her bottom lip. "He attacked both of us. She distracted him while I ran... S-She asked me to, but... I-I still think I should have tried to help her. I... I just let her die." Filled with shame, Izumi lowered her head and pounded a closed fist against her own knee. She hated herself for letting Yumiko die, only realizing what she should have done when it was too late. Haruka shook her head, knowing Izumi’s feeling of guilt too well. Leaving the gun on the grass, ready to be taken at any moments, she raised Izumi’s head with her free hand and looked right into her eyes.
"If you hadn’t listened to what Yumiko told you, you would have died with her too and would have wasted the sacrifice she did, Izu. You did the right thing, you survived. And now, you can avenge her death. We will avenge her." Haruka replied in a calm but determined voice, looking right into Izumi’s teary eyes. Izumi's eyes widened slightly. "A-Avange her?" She asked, the words echoing through her brain. "I-I mean, I want to, I do! But do you really think we can do that, Haruka? H-How?" After losing so many of her dearest friends, Izumi wanted nothing more than to make it all count for something. To make a difference. If Yumiko died for her, at least she could try to do something in return. Saving Yukiko and making it all count. Revenge... Y-Yes, Yumiko deserves that. Noriko and Yuka too... E-Everyone.

Haruka Tanizawa - C3-E7 - Trust
Haruka stared at Yahagi’s body, shocked. It all happened so fast. One moment, Yahagi was standing there, crying her heart out, and now, she was lying lifeless on the ground. And, for a reason Haruka ignored considering she pretty much never talked to her and always considered her to be a bratty bully, Haruka broke down in tears. For the first time in the Program, Haruka let go of her strong facade and collapsed on the ground, tears streaming down her cheeks. Sure, she had cried when she killed Yamamoto and she had to fight back her tears when she learned about Yuko, Chisato and Noriko’s death, but she didn’t collapse like this. Maybe it was because Yahagi’s death was so sudden? Or maybe because Haruka felt if she had been better at comforting people, she could have prevented it? Or maybe because Yahagi looked so small in death, just like Yuko did? No…It was probably because Haruka understood too well the pain Yoshimi felt…Like your heart has been ripped away from your body, smashed, like you wouldn’t even be able to laugh ever again…Haruka had felt the same pain ever since she found Yuko’s lifeless body, and with every fallen friend, it only got worse and worse…
And Haruka cried. She cried for Yahagi, for her pain. She cried for Yuka, especially for Yuka, for how she failed to protect her, for how she wasn’t even able to convince enjoying life again without her reassuring presence in her life. She cried for Noriko, Chisato and Yuko, her three dear friends she wasn’t able to save, for how important they were for her and how she never really told them…And, of course, she cried for Yamamoto, the boy she had killed without mercy, the life she has destroyed based on stupid prejudices. And she cried for the whole class. How did things got so screwed up? It shouldn’t have gone this way, should it? They should have sleeping at the moment, in their hotel bedroom, to get ready for another day of activities.
Once again, Haruka wished with all her heart Yukie was there, but, this time, not for Yahagi but for her. Yukie would find a ways to ease the wrenching pain Haruka was living right now. And Izumi would hug her tightly. And Satomi would give wise and reassuring advices. I have to find them. Haruka wiped her tears and got up, still shaking. She picked up Yahagi’s gun and opened her bag to put it in. She stared at Yahagi’s body for a moment and, then, started walking south. She hadn’t given up…not yet.
Haruka had been walking for twenty minutes when she found them…two bodies lying on the ground and, to Haruka’s disgust, three great black birds feeding on them. For a moment, Haruka felt she was about to puke.  She stopped walking for a moment, unable to breath. As she glanced at the bodies again, she recognized Tatsumichi Oki (Male Student #3). He had been riddled with bullets. As for the other corpse, her face was now a bloody mess, in other words, a real fest for those disgusting words. From the short height and the shoulders length hair she could make out behind the bird’s wing, it could be either Megumi Eto (Female Student #3) or. Kaori Minami (Female Student #20). Still struggling not to throw up, Haruka thought about scaring the birds off with her gun. She decided against doing so, knowing that the birds would probably come back as soon as she was gone. Breathing deeply, she slowly walked away and continued her way east.
Half an hour later, as Haruka was making her way through the woods, careful not to enter a danger zone, Sakamochi’s voice broke the silence of the morning.
”Greetings, little warriors! We’ve now entered our second morning on the island! Slept well? I see some of you pulled an all nighter to up your standards! Still a little shabby, but the numbers are steadily dwindling, so no complaints here!”
Haruka looked up, tense.
”Anyway, onto the list of the dead. The first of you to go was Girl Number 16, Yuka Nakagawa! ”
Even though she expected it, hearing her name being read like that was like someone stabbed Haruka in the heart. Unable to cross out Yuka’s name on her list, she just wrote a little star beside her name.
”Next was Girl Number 13, Takako Chigusa!”
This name came off as a surprise for Haruka. Not only Chigusa was probably the most athletic girl at school, she was also smart and ingenious. Haruka expected to make it farther into the game.
”After that, Girl Number 21, Yoshimi Yahagi!”
Haruka lowered her head, thinking back how broken Yahagi was. And this guy was reading her name in an enthusiastic and overjoyed voice. It was disgusting. As she wrote down the danger zones, Haruka had a sigh of relief. Yukie, Izumi and Satomi were still alive. Maybe the three girls had found each other and were now working together on a way to get off the island? Haruka could only hope. Suddenly, Haruka heard a voice coming from across a row of trees.
”I can’t believe Nakagawa is dead. She was so cheerful and nice.”`
It was a male voice. Haruka’s heart took a leap, as she got up and approached the source of the voice carefully. As she made her way through the trees, she heard a small, quiet voice replying to the first one.
”I know.”
Haruka could finally see the two sources of the voices. They were Yutaka Seto (Male Student #12) and Mayumi Tendo (Female Student #14). The two were sitting down on rocks, just besides the cliff. Seto was writing down the danger zones on his map, shaking his head sadly while Mayumi, looking tired with huge shadows under the eyes, was looking nervous around. For a moment, Haruka thought about getting away and not make her presence known. Seto was a boy and she never talked much to Mayumi. After what happened with Souma, she wasn’t sure she would be able to trust anyone outside her friends. But, judging from the fork Seto was holding and the pair of nunchakus in Mayumi’s hand, their weapons weren’t really dangerous. And, although he was a boy, Seto had always been really sweet with everyone. Kind of a class clown himself, he always got on well with Yuka. And didn’t Yamamoto prove Haruka that guys weren’t all bad? There should be no harm in asking them if they had seen Yukie, Izumi or Satomi.
Holding carefully her gun against her side, Haruka approached them.
”Hey Seto! Mayumi!” said Haruka, in a calm voice, not wanting to scare them off.
For a moment, Seto gave a worried glance at Haruka’s gun, but seeing she wasn’t trying to attack them, a large smile appeared on his face. For her part, Mayumi looked absolutely terrified.
”Tanizawa! You see that, Tendo! We have another ally.” exclaimed Seto, in a cheerful voice.
The optimism and hope Haruka could read in Seto’s eyes reminded her painfully of Yuka. Trying to chase these thoughts away, Haruka asked.
”Did you guys see Yukie, Izumi or Satomi? I’m looking for them.”
As Mayumi, still looking terrified, shook her head quickly, Seto replied in an excited voice.
”Of course, you would be looking for Kanai, you too!”
Haruka turned to Yutaka, surprised.
”You are looking for Izumi too?” asked Haruka.
Seto suddenly blushed. His cheeks crimson red, he muttered, looking down on the ground.
”Yeah…well…I lov…I’ve…euh…I’ve got something to tell her.”
Haruka nodded slowly, realizing Seto was probably in love with Izumi. Who wouldn’t? Izumi was cute, cheerful and always nice with everyone. Not wanting to break his hopes by telling him Izumi had a crush on Numai, she smiled at Seto.
”You have a crush on her, right?” said Haruka in a quiet voice.
Seto blushed even more if that was possible.
”Yes...If I have to die on this island, I want her to at least know how much joy she brought into my life just by being herself.” muttered Seto, in an embarrassed voice.
Haruka stared at Seto for a moment. She always thought that when a guy had a crush on a girl, it was more about how physically attractive he thought her to be. Obviously, she was wrong. Looking into Seto’s eyes, she could not help but he moved by the spark of joy in his eyes as he rambled on Izumi.
”Then we could go look together for her.” replied Haruka, smiling slightly.
Seto beamed at her. In an enthusiastic voice, he asked.
”And you, did you see Shinji, Keita or one of the boys?”
Haruka shook her head. She hadn’t seen any of Seto’s friends since the program begun.
”Sorry, Seto, I haven’t seen Mimura, Iijima or any of your friends.”
Yutaka sighed, slightly disappointed, but kept smiling.
”That’s okay, Tanizawa. We’ve got to find Mimura though. If someone is able to beat that stupid program, that would be him.” said Yutaka with admiration.
Haruka didn’t saying anything. If she was okay with letting Seto who had always been sweet and funny and Mayumi joining her, she wasn’t really sure about Mimura. Guy was a known playboy and if he was able to be so selfish with the girls who had a crush on him, Haruka saw no reason why he wouldn’t be selfish when his life was on the line.
And I think that’s important…to…to look beyond someone’s reputation or appearance. Everyone has a light inside of them but sometimes we are just too blinded by someone’s reputation to see it.
Chisato’s smile when she talked about Mimura appeared in Haruka’s mind. Could she give another chance to someone she didn’t trust after what happened with Souma, though?
”I…I don’t know if I could trust him, Seto. I’m sorry.” replied carefully Haruka.
”I guessed so…He doesn’t have a good reputation with the girls in the class, does he? But, trust me, once we’ve found him and you saw what genius plan he came up with, I’m sure you’ll be convinced.” said Seto, his voice full of hope and faith.
Haruka sighed. ”We’ll see.”
Turning to Tendo who hadn’t say a word yet, she asked.
”You were with Yahagi yesterday, right?”
Without a word, Tendo nodded quickly.
”I saw her. I talked to her before she...She-she killed herself, she couldn’t bear the thought of living without Kuramoto.” explained quietly Haruka.
As Tendo nodded mechanically, Seto lowered his head sadly.
”Did…did you see anyone else, Tanizawa?” asked Seto.
Haruka took a deep breath.
”I was...I was with Yuka the whole time, before…before Souma killed her.”
”I’m so sorry, Tanizawa.” whispered Seto, taken aback.
”I thought we could trust Souma. I guess I was wrong.” continued Haruka in an empty voice.
Seto sighed sadly.
”You’ve talked with Souma?” asked suddenly Mayumi who had been playing nervously with her ponytail the whole time.
Haruka turned at the girl and nodded, slightly puzzled.
”Did…did she say anything about me?” asked Mayumi, in an alarmed voice.
”No, no, she didn’t. Why do you ask?” replied Haruka, totally confused.
”No…nothing.” replied Mayumi in a quiet voice.
”Did you see anyone else?” asked Seto, who seemed as confused as Haruka by Mayumi’s behavior.
Haruka took another deep breath. Wanting to be honest with Seto, she was about to tell him how she had killed Yamamoto, when Mayumi interrupted her.
”Yeah! Did you see Shimizu? ” Mayumi’s voice was tense and worried.
Haruka shook her head and shared a confused look with Seto. Mayumi was acting strangely.
”No, I haven’t, Mayumi. Why?”
”Oh…Because…Shimizu is probably playing this game hardcore, right? She is…emmmh..She is different than Yahagi. She is such an awful girl. She is probably trying to pit us against each other, that would be the kind of things she would do, right? Telling lies after us to other students so we wouldn’t trust each other?” Mayumi was rambling nervously, still playing with her ponytail.
Haruka stared at the girl. The stress is really getting to her, I guess. I should keep a look on her. Turning to Seto, she noticed an expression of understanding on Seto’s face, like he finally guessed what was going with Mayumi. She was about to question him, when he asked.
”So, what’s the plan, Tanizawa? Tendo and I were about to eat when you joined us.”
Haruka who couldn’t get rid the image of the birds eating Oki and the unidentified girl’s bodies wasn’t hungry at all.
”I’m not hungry right now, but, you guys should eat. During this time, I’m gonna search around this zone to see if anyone else is here. This way, we can go start to explore other zones once right after your breakfast. There is no time to lose.” explained Haruka in a clear and confident voice.
”Great idea, chief!” replied Seto with a large smile.
”I’m going to be back in 15 minutes.” said Haruka.
Haruka was about to leave when she remembered that Seto and Mayumi only had a fork and nunchakus as weapon. If someone was to attack them during the time Haruka was gone, they would be helpless. She opened her bag, took Yahagi’s gun, and put it in Seto’s hands.
”That’s Yahagi’s gun. If someone attacks you when I’m gone, use it to protect you and Mayumi.” explained Haruka to the boy who looked absolutely frightened at the idea of holding a firearm. Sure, giving him a gun wasn’t the best idea, but it was still better than giving it to Mayumi who looked quite close to a nervous breakdown.
”So, you guys, eat and, then, we will find our friends” announced Haruka in what she meant as an optimistic voice.
While Mayumi just stared at her blankly, Seto clapped his hands.
”Strength in number! That’s what I keep saying to Tendo since we two met up last night, a little before the fourth report” he said cheerfully, as Mayumi was taking a bread loaf out of her bag.
Haruka made her way back into the wood and walked around for 10 minutes, making sure none of her friends were hiding in this zone. She could not help but wonder how she would react if she found Mimura. Would she tell Seto or would she act like she hadn’t seen anyone? Haruka shook her head. No, lying was the best way to lose someone’s trust in those circumstances.
”TANIZ-” shouted a voice before being abruptly interrupted.
Seto. Without a hesitation, Haruka turned back and started running through the woods, her gun ready to shoot. Minutes passed. Haruka was panicking. Were Seto and Mayumi attacked by Souma? When she finally got out of the wood, she could not believe what she was seeing. Mayumi had wrapped the chain between the two nunchakus around Seto’s neck and was now strangling him, as tears were streaming down her face.
”NO! ” screamed Haruka, as she raised her gun.
Mayumi looked up and let go of Yutaka who fell limply on the ground. With a scream of total panic, she jumped for Yahagi’s gun.
”This…This is not what you think, Haruka…I killed him in self-defence!” pleaded Mayumi, shaking from fear. ”He heard from Mimura that awful rumour Shimizu spread on me…This rumour isn’t true…It’s a lie…He told me it didn’t matter and still trusted me, but I knew he was lying…No one who knew this rumour would trust me…I’m sure he planned to kill me…He…”
Haruka stared at Tendo, totally confused. The panicked girl raised Yahagi’s gun. Stop her, Haru. Not losing a moment, Haruka pulled the trigger and missed Tendo by a centimeter. Tendo went into a fit of rage and panic.
”YOU LIED TO ME! You want to kill me too! Souma told you this rumour! I never did phone-dating, it isn’t true! I never…Shimizu and Souma probably told everyone…They won’t trust me now… Everyone will want to kill me…I won’t die…I won’t! ”
The paranoid girl pulled the trigger but Haruka jumped on her right, avoided Mayumi’s bullet and shot again. This time, the bullet went right through Tendo’s right arm and Yahagi’s gun slipped from her hand. With a scream of panic and holding her wounded arm, Mayumi dashed to her left and disappeared into the woods. Not losing a moment, Haruka ran to Seto’s side. His juvenile face was all puffed up, his tongue hanging out of his mouth and his neck, just above the collar, was a deep blue. Haruka’s heart sank as she realized he was dead and she couldn’t do anything for him. He will never blush again as he was talking about Izumi, he would never interrupt class with his jokes and funny dances. She looked sadly at Seto’s eyes still staring blankly, those eyes in which this spark of joy and love won’t appear ever again. From what Haruka had gathered from Mayumi’s paranoid rambling, Mayumi was secretly phone-dating and Shimizu was spreading the rumour around. Seto had heard about it from Mimura and seeing how scared Mayumi was at the idea of someone knowing her secret, he tried to tell her that it didn’t matter and that he still trusted her. But, obviously, Mayumi thought he was lying and panicked.
Haruka sighed. It’s so hard to trust someone. The class B roster had been the same for three years but, even after all this time, very few studentstrusted each other when their life was on the line. Haruka gently closed Seto’s eyes.
”I will tell Izumi how you felt about her, Seto. Don’t you worry about that! ” whispered Haruka.
As Haruka gathered her stuff and put Yahagi’s gun back in her bag, she could not help but felt bad she stay longer with Seto’s body and mourn him properly. Haruka shook her head. She had to find her friends.
And time was running out.

Mitsuko Souma (D-1 to A-9)
As good a plan as it seemed, staying by the coast proved nearly impossible.  Every zone or so would be forbidden, and Mitsuko had to take detours ranging from the insignificant to the near ridiculous whenever she encountered one.  As often as she could she remained covered, but there were open stretches of field or beach that she couldn’t avoid.  Dashing across the open spaces brought back images of her first confrontation with Niida, and she began for the first time to feel the tension that the game was putting on her.  Mitsuko wasn’t one to be discouraged by the reports.  It didn’t shock her to hear that her classmates were dying.  The danger zones were the game function that really put her on edge.  The reports are there to demoralize the weak students. The danger zones fuck with the competent ones.
She finally arrived at the cliff that straddled zones A-8 and A-9. A-8 had recently become a danger zone, so Mitsuko reasoned that there might be people hiding in the adjacent area. It would be a risk, but they might have more water or even some sort of medical supply. Her ear was still stinging and she’d be damned if she lost because of a puny infection. She placed her sickle in the bag she’d taken from Chigusa. Best to appear as innocent as possible. Holding multiple weapons would only indicate that she had taken one from someone else. As she approached the cliff, she prepared herself for what might be an inevitable performance. Just another sap to throw off guard. She’d hardly taken three steps around the rocky outcropping when she heard the clicking of a firearm being hastily raised.
Hmmm. This is tough.
It was Keita Iijima (Male Student #2). Not much of a threat by himself, except that he was pointing an uzi at Mitsuko’s face. As soon, however, as he recognized her, Iijima lowered his weapon. Mitsuko followed suit. If he’d been holding any other weapon, she would have shot him right then and there. But an uzi. Even if he didn’t have much of an idea how to handle it, he’d still be able to do some damage. Enough that Mitsuko wasn’t willing to risk a direct firefight. That’s ok. I’ve played this part so many times before. Once more couldn’t hurt at all.
"I-Iijima … ! I’m not playing, I," she whimpered, “Please don’t hurt me!!"
Fake tears began to glisten in Mitsuko’s eyes and she adjusted her footing just so. The hem of her skirt rose just enough to show off her legs. She’d be serving an interesting cocktail to Iijima. Two parts innocence to one part frightened and just a dash of sexy. Just one shot of that mix would get a lightweight like Iijima tipsy.
"D-Dude! I’m not playing either. I won’t hurt ya, I swear!"
Iijima waved his hand at her inanely, like he was trying to pacify an angry dog. Maybe he meant for the gesture to hide how his gaze was glued to Mitsuko’s thighs as he stammered, “S-So like … Ya don’t have to cry or anything’. Y-Ya can totally trust me!"
Sweat dripped down the side of his face and he cracked an idiotic grin. Mitsuko dropped to her knees, faking an apologetic smile while spreading her legs just a bit wider than she usually would. If he had the right angle, he’d be able to see the tiniest peak of her panties. Something was off with Iijima. His smile seemed unnatural. Forced. And anyone who insisted that they could be totally trusted had to be up to something. Â
Too bad he’s a juvenile little prick, otherwise he might have had the right idea. Points for trying, Iijima. I’ll give you that. Next time, try not to be so obvious. Oh, oops. I guess there won’t be a next time.
Regardless of how poor Iijima’s charade was, he still had a superior firearm. Mitsuko had to be careful, and she sure as hell couldn’t drop her act. She had to work her current situation to the best of her ability.
"Iijima … Do you mind if I … Stop here for just a little while … ? I’m so tired and … I’m running out of water …"
Iijima swallowed heavily as he approached her. His face was flushed and his voice uneven. Mitsuko’s cocktail was already getting to him. She’d have him slobbering drunk soon enough.
"Nah, not at all … Like, I was gonna take a break myself," he dropped his bag and drew a bottle of water from it, “I still got some water left! Do ya want some? Can’t have ya get all dehydrated, h-heh …"
Mitsuko reached for the bottle, smiling widely. She put it to her lips, drinking down the water with exaggerated licks, working her mouth around the spout. Just like I did to Niida. This is going almost as well as it did with him. She removed the bottle from her mouth, making sure to leave just a little of her saliva trailing from the spout to her lips. Iijima was beet red. Time to kick it up a notch.
"Thank you, Iijima … C-can I call you Iijima-kun?"
"S-sure, heh … I don’t care," he stammered, his eyes darting to the ground. He sat on the grass across from Mitsuko, making a visible effort to pry his glance from her. The attempt was mostly successful, although she could see his gaze returning periodically to her legs, her chest, and her lips.
"So … Watcha been doing so far? Have ya seen anyone else or like … Anything?"
"I, um … I s-saw a few b-bodies … And," Mitsuko began to shake, turning her attention now to seeming even more frightened, “N-Niida a-attacked me … He c-cut me …"
She pointed to her ear. Had to explain it at some point. Besides, maybe he’ll have some bandages. No need to go all the way down to the clinic when I can find the same thing up here.
"Huh?! He did?!" Iijima’s eyes peeled from her legs and darted toward her injury. He sounded honestly surprised. Wasn’t he friends with Niida? He should have known how much of a volatile ass the douchebag was.
He continued, “I can’t believe that, Souma! W-what a total asshole!" Who’s attack a girl like that?! Guess ya got lucky, huh? So … what ever happened to Niida after?"
Iijima fidgeted, picking grass from the ground.
"I m-managed to run away from him while he was distracted by a gunshot but … I … I know this s-sounds bad but," she lowered her eyes in mock shame, “I was kind of … . Relieved … When he d-died …"
Well, I was. For a girl who’s so good at lying, I’ve done an awful lot of telling the truth.
"Nah, I gotcha," Iijima hooded, “This way, he won’t get to hurt ya again for sure. But don’t worry, I’ll try my best to protect ya from now on, i-if ya trust me …"
Mitsuko nearly burst out laughing. Jesus Christ, I got so used to Nakagawa’s stupid fucking jokes, I was hardly fucking prepared for this one. Iijima, I take back anything I might have said about your sense of humor. You protecting me? That’s fucking hilarious. Never mind the fact that you’re trying to reassure me while practically undressing me with your eyes. Way to fucking go. She smiled again, hoping to appear grateful, and murmured, “Thank you Iijima-kun. I d-definitely feel safer with you. O-oh um Iijima-kun? D-do you have any bandages … ? For my ear I mean … ?"
Fuck, that was a good one. Time to get serious, though.
Iijima rustled through his bag, but came up empty.
"Sorry, man. I don’t have anything! Uhm, do ya want some more water to clean it? I dunno what else we can do … It totally doesn’t look too bad though!"
"Th-that should be alright, I think … Thank you, Iijima-kun," she moved closer to him, placing a hand delicately on his knee.
Keep throwing him off balance. Keep him distracted.
Iijima could hardly keep from stumbling over his words, “Y-you’re totally welcome, Souma. I’ll … lay this here, kay?"
He placed his uzi on the grass in front of them.
"Not like I need it right now, heh."
Need both hands free to feel me up when the time comes, huh, Iijima? Alright. Your dick’s probably small enough to only need one hand, but I might as well match your “trust."
Mitsuko too put her handgun on the ground.
"Of course …"
She kept her hand on Iijima’s leg, inching it just a little further up his thigh. She had to keep it busy, otherwise it might just reach out and grab that uzi before the right moment. Control yourself, Mitsu. You’ll get it. Just wait.

Keita Iijima (boy #2) C-9 to A-9 Keita had ran off, skipping happily as he couldn't take his eyes off his new toy. Heh! And I thought the super-knife was awesome! This is soooooo much cooler, man! Without a clear direction of where he was going, he had ended up running north. There was no danger zones in sight and the situation gradually seemed to have turned positive. Even though he was still convinced everyone wanted him dead, at least now he had a powerful weapon that would make it almost impossible for someone to overpower him. Oh yeah! Luck's totally turned for me! Finally Keita realized he was drawing close to the northern tip of the island. He seemed to remember a danger zone was close to a cliff, so he made sure to avoid that area. Instead he found himself near the northern coast-line. Thinking he could take a quick break there before looking for others, he was about to sit down on the grass-covered ground. But before he got to relax, he heard something. Footsteps? Swiftly he spun around, his eyes searching the area. Someone's gonna jump me, man! Shit, they found me! Terrified, Keita raised the Uzi in his right hand. Then his eyes focused on the source of the noise. A girl had walked into the same zone. She still hadn't spotted him, it seemed like. He immediately recognized the body  (and face, but mostly body) of the hottest girl in their class. Mitsuko Souma. A strange mixture of fear and excitement spread through his body. He took a few steps in her direction, knowing it was too late to pretend like he hadn't spotted her. "Y-Yo... Souma!" Mitsuko lowered the gun in her hand as he called out to her. Keita hadn't even noticed it before she lowered it.  "I-Ijima . . . ! I'm not playing, I ... Please don't hurt me!" She sounded nothing short of terrified. Huh... She's not playing then?! Man, I gotta play this one right! Copying her movement, Keita lowered the Uzi as well. "D-Dude! I'm not playing either. I won't hurt ya, I swear!" He raised his left hand and waved slightly, attempting a gesture telling her to calm down. His eyes automatically lowered themselves to her long legs. He couldn't help but notice that her skirt seemed to slide up slightly, revealing her nicely shaped thighs. Keita gulped, feeling himself starting to sweat. "S-So like... Ya don't have to cry or anythin'. Y-Ya can totally trust me!" He forced himself to grin, hoping his lie wasn't too obvious. Mitsuko smiled apologetically to him. Suddenly she dropped to her knees, looking more vulnerable than ever. She... really is scared, ain't she?! "Ijima... Do you mind if I ... Stop here for just a little while...? I'm so tired and... I'm running out of water..." Keita walked closer to her, stopping up a few meters apart as she dropped to her knees. He nodded, still swallowing in hope of removing the salvia that was clogging up his throat. "Nah, not at all... Like, I was gonna take a break myself..." In hope that she would gain some trust, he quickly placed his bag to the ground. "I still got some water left! Do ya want some? Can't have ya get all dehydrated, h-heh..." Even though he didn't trust Mitsuko, and hoped to sneak up on her later, he still couldn't help but feel intimidated by such a beautiful girl. He knew he was probably blushing, and his sweaty hands were slippery as he handed her the half-filled water bottle. It embarrassed him a bit that it must be obvious how nervous he was around her. Mitsuko's beautiful smile widened as he gave her the bottle. She took it and drank a few sips, licking the spout of the bottle. Keita couldn't help but stare. His whole body began to feel warm and he was shaking slightly. "Thank you, Ijima ... C-can I call you Ijima-kun?" Mitsuko looked down at her knees, looking like she was feeling slightly shy as well. "S-Sure, heh... I don't care..." He averted his eyes, staring down at the grass. Like Mitsuko, he sat down onto the ground. He still kept his eyes off her body, afraid his stare would be too obvious.  "So... Whatcha been doing so far? Have ya seen anyone else or like... Anything?" Even in his paranoid state, Keita had missed having someone to talk to ever since he killed Noriko. He was desperate for any kind of small-talk, to distract from the many thoughts running through his head. Now that he had finally found someone to team up with, he wanted to keep her around for as long as he could before having to dispose of her. "I, um ... I s-saw a few b-bodies ... And... " Mitsuko's whole body was starting to quiver and she lowered her soft voice. "N-Niida a-attacked me ... He c-cut me..." She pointed to her wounded ear. "I m-managed to run away from him while he was distracted by a gunshot but ... I ... I know this s-sounds bad but ... I was kind of ... Relieved ... When he d-died..." She looked down again. Keita thought perhaps she regretted what she just said about Niida. Not that Keita cared that he had died. He seemed like the type who wouldn't have hesitated to kill him. "Nah, I gotcha," Keita nodded. "This way, he won't get to hurt ya again for sure. But don't worry, I'll try my best to protect ya from now one, i-if ya trust me..."
Slowly he raised his eyes again, trying to focus on Mitsuko's face and not her huge breasts (which for Keita was quite a difficult task). He hoped by convincing her he wanted her safe, he would easier gain her trust. And while in reality if they were ever attacked, he'd probably run off quicker than she could yell "help me!", he needed her to think he would fight for her. "Th-that should be alright, I think... Thank you Ijima-kun," Mitsuko slowly moved a little closer to him, putting a hand on his knee. The touch made Keita freeze up a bit. He had to force himself to stay calm and remember... As sweet as she was right now, he couldn't trust her. He couldn't trust anyone. Still, the contact made him feel dizzy and confused. N-No, man... Ya gotta focus... "Y-You're totally welcome, Souma..." He mumbled, fighting to keep his voice steady. He looked at the gun next to her, then back at the one he was still holding in his hand. He decided to push their trust even further. "I'll... lay this here, kay?" He said, putting the Uzi down onto the grass. "Not like I need it right now, heh." That's right... He would wait for a while. Maybe even a whole day. Who knew what could happen? Then once when she was sleeping... Y-Yeah! Totally a kickass plan!

Sakamochi- Fifth Report [6am, G7]
Greetings, little warriors! We’ve now entered our second morning on the island! Slept well? I see some of you pulled an all nighter to up your standards! Still a little shabby, but the numbers are steadily dwindling, so no complaints here!
Anyway, onto the list of the dead. The first of you to go was Girl Number 16, Yuka Nakagawa! Next was Girl Number 13, Takako Chigusa! After that, Girl Number 21, Yoshimi Yahagi!
Three is considered a shabby number, but there aren’t many of you left, so what can I say? Still, let’s try to reduce the numbers once again next time! Here’s a challenge; can you get it down to single digits? Maybe!
Anyway, now the danger zones. At 7am, say goodbye to H3! At 9am, B4! And at 11am, H9!
There we have it! I’ll speak to you soon, warriors!
((OOC: Thank you all for being patient with me as I worked on this thing getting up running again! The announcement will now be a weekly event, so please make a post for each of your characters before next Saturday (or let me know in case you won't be able to make it!). Most importantly: have fun! c: ))

Announcement!
(I swear I'm done with these announcements soon, haha!) As you might have seen, there was a post published a few days ago, which means the redo is offically open again! In case anyone wants to submit a post before the next announcement, I will wait until Saturday August 3rd to publish the 6AM announcement! Starting Saturday, the announcements will again be updated weekly. If you for some reason can't post for one week, please let me know. If I don't get a post submitted by you for one week, I will contact you. Then if two weeks go past without a mun posting anything, their character will be turned into a NPC (of course, exceptions will be made if there's a particular reason someone can't post for a longer period; as long as you let me know!). Again: The 6AM announcement will be published Saturday August 3rd. If you have any posts you want to submit before that announcement, make sure to do it this week. If there's any questions or comments, please don't hesitate to contact me!

Hiroki Sugimura (feat. Yukie Utsumi) I5
Hiroki sat down on a rock and ran his hands through his hair, Yukie looking at him with inquiring eyes. So many of his classmates had die already... The sweetest girls he was friends with -or at least, those who talked to him often-, Noriko and Chisato. Megumi, who was quiet and calm. Hiroki couldn't picture any of them being up for killing and the simple thought of someone actually ending with their lives disgusted him to no end.
"You okay?" Said Yukie, kneeling by his side. When Hiroki looked up at her, he could tell she felt just as upset as him.
Hiroki shook his head. "Yeah. I mean... no. I can't believe this is happening."
Yukie felt silent, finally sitting on the floor with a 'thump'.
"We gotta find Shuya, or Shinji." Hiroki said, his eyes a bit happier now. "I'm sure they aren't playing. I'm sure they'll find a way out."
The girl played with the tips of her braided hair, looking down. "What if they are?" she whispered. "What if they're playing?"
He snorted. "They aren't." He assured. "They're not like that..."Â
"Well, a week ago I would've said that of any of us. And now half of our mates are dead."
Hiroki squinted his eyes and clenched his jaw. "Well, I'm going to look for them, so it's up to you, come with me or leave."
Yukie's mouth fell open. "You wouldn't leave me all alone, would you?" her eyes gleamed with fear.Â
"Then come. I know they'll figure something out. I just know it."
Sighing, the class representative played with a loose thread of her skirt. "If something happens to us, I'll kill you." He quickly turned pale, realising what she'd said. "I mean! Not that I'll actually kill you, it's just a say-"
"It's okay!" Hiroki shook his hands, resting importance to the matter. "I get what you mean. Let's just rest for a while before we set off."
