The ‘No-poo’ method
Hey everyone! After extensive research and willingness to try anything to get healthy hair, I’ve recently decided to ditch the shampoo and just do water washes! I decided not to go down the Bi-card soda/ apple cider vinegar route for numerous reasons.
I got lots of great information online but there were very few pictures of the results (especially long term). So, I kind of had to take a leap of faith. Luckily for you guys I will be documenting my no-poo journey during what we call the ‘transition phase’ when your scalp is completely confused by your lack of chemical cleaning and gets used to releasing it’s natural oils on a less frequent basis.
Now, my hair treatment background is not a kind one. From the age of 11 I began bleaching my hair with home dye’s. Eventually at 15 I decided to go for a more natural look with a honey blonde (way less maintenance) and a year later went for the ombre look, re-bleaching my ends. I could leave my hair like this for up to 12 months without even having to consider touching it up, success! It was relatively healthy, was long and had a natural wave.
Then (cue dramatic music) I started going to the hairdressers. At 19 and having not touched my hair for 18 months, I decided my now barely-ombre hair needed a touch up. What i wanted was a medium brown, fading to amber then into a beautiful blonde. What i got was a dark cap off brown, a line going from ear to ear and blonde with brown streaks through my mids and ends.
Fast forward 8 months, i decide i want frickin silver hair, go on a sporadic 6 month bleaching binge at the hair dressers to get my hair all one colour. At the last hurdle, i decided to give up. My hair was a less than appealing out-grown bleach look, 6 inches shorter, dry and depressing.
I cut off all the unhealthy hair and chose to take the plunge into a world of natural remedies...and how much more natural can you get than your hairs own oils and water? So here is the start of my journey. I hope this will help those who are in need
