Nothing is for everyone.
If you didn't like First Kill, that's fine. But before you decide to be a petty ass in the tag, in a devastating moment for thousands of people here, saying "I told you so, it was bad", bad shit gets renewed constantly.
All networks and streamers care about is views. People watch bad shit all the time. Sometimes that bad shit is the most entertaining, I suppose. They renew stuff based on quantity (views/viewers), not quality.
The bottom line is First Kill was a modest hit with a low budget and there's no way in hell the numbers for the first three weeks alone and the seriously impressive social media engagement and demand for the show didn't justify renewal of a show with a budget of $5 and some crazy glue with CGI that could probably be done in photoshop. For what it costs to make and for being as small a production as it was, it was a relatively huge hit.
Netflix never intended to renew it. I think they really got close because it exceeded their expectations, and that's why the announcement took so long. But they ultimately decided to do what they always planned to do - milk it for all its worth during pride season- and canceled it.

Around the time it dropped, someone who worked on First Kill said TWO sapphic couples formed on set between the crew and one of the couples had just gotten engaged.
Just wanted to make sure that was a piece of trivia we all had.
Queer media is so powerful.

First Kill does not center or even give quarter to gross men. The one gross man we see is Cook from the Guild who just isn't actually hitting on or creeping on Calliope but he's got a vibe like he would if he got the chance. And he is unequivocally gone in the ep after he is introduced. Thank you Cal and subsequently, Juliette!
But even in the scenes between teenagers, they literally have the song Slumber Party playing in the background with lyrics about cunnilingus, but when Ben turns Juliette's spun bottle towards Calliope, there is no whooping and hollering, no lewd comments about wanting to watch, or complaints about the game now being unfair because it landed on someone else. Everyone just kinda goes "Alright, cool." And backs off smiling. It centers a lot of things I love about this show.
Consent. No one is forcing Juliette to kiss someone she's uncomfortable with, especially as a lesbian but also in general.
A complete and total LACK of homophobia. Like these kids don't bat an eye about Juliette and Cal going in the closet to kiss. They're just there to have fun and no one is under any impression that coercion or skeevey commentary is fun.
There's not even the for some reason obligatory in this kind of media creepy "misunderstood" white guy.
The centered narratives are for the girls', a balance between both of their experiences in the story.
People saying it caters to the male gaze are not watching the show. There isn't even a fictional character to whom this show is catering. The girls are in their world. No one is watching.

Dude I just want a girlfriend I can go to the cinema with, geek out about the cinematography and story lines. Watch horror movies with even though I'm a huge scaredy cat and wouldn't be able to sleep alone for a week. Watch her play video games and be her little cheerleader. Spend the night curled up on the couch reading books. Listening to podcasts or audiobooks in the car together. Waiting for each other to come home so we can watch our favourite show together

The Burns did worse to Juliette’s family than the monsters’ house itself
I wish Jules would find out about these things and live a little for herself first
Would love to see a little bit of a spiteful Juliette in (a hopeful, potential) season 2. Cal appears to have turned her back on Juliette after what happened with her brother, but Juliette's forgiveness has been endless (or maybe she just doesn't know all the facts yet). Calliope's parents almost killed her father, Cal's family tortured her brother and then one of Cal's brothers died whilst they were trying to kill her sister and she then got her own sister in jail for it. The worst of it all is that whilst Jules feels remorseful for anything bad that happens to Cal's family, if something happen to Jules' family then a large part of Calliope would just see it as one less monster in the world. Juliette has done everything for Cal and been left with nothing and I'd love to see some spiteful Juliette, if only for a little bit. I do actually love them, but Juliette has earned some righteousness.
