Everything Everything | Teletype
Everything Everything's 2022 album Raw Data Feel (and the released singles from their upcoming Mountainhead) have been fusing with my brain all of a sudden. I particularly delight in the peculiar juxtaposition of all the ways the band used generative artificial intelligence specifically in ways to creatively show how hollow and grotesque it is--to wit, trying to write songs with it only to realise how much editing is required to construct a cohesive set of lyrics, or trying to make a music video which undeniably becomes more gruesome and unappealing the more you stare.
I'd follow this up with the video for one of my favourites from Raw Data Feel, but the video itself is not for the photosensitive, even if its unique rendition of fucking deep-dream image-distortion hell is a sight to be put off by. So here's just that song.

Everything Everything | Bad Friday
And some others--the first two Mountainhead singles.
Again--fused with my brain.

Everything Everything | The Mad Stone
And my personal favourite this season:

Everything Everything | Cold Reactor
Sorry Satan, but I can't do this evil on my own I haven't left the house in nearly thirty thousand days I sent you the image of a little yellow face To tell you that I'm sad about the emptinеss that's all around me

Brandon O'Brien's 2023 SFF awards eligibility post
I am very bad at remembering the things I wrote this year, so bear with this clumsy Brandon O'Brien 2023 SFF awards eligibility post:
'The Officer in Your Heart', a story about the weirdness of gender, the coolness of mechs, & the tumult of community, dropped in The Sunday Morning Transport in April!
In Uncanny Magazine Issue 50, 'To Whomsoever Remains' is a dim proffer of hope in a future where it all falls apart.
In Strange Horizons' amazing Caribbean SFF Special Issue edited by Suzan Palumbo & Marika Bailey, 'The Creature from the Black Lagoon is Your Father' is among my thread of lagahoo poems, about how you can't choose your body, your family, or your past.
real talk, if I wrote and sold anything else this year I have clean forgotten it, pray for a bredren
but if you have read and enjoyed the things I have made, please consider putting their hats in the ring for the categories they are shaped for. thank you. take care.

it's weird how even when the net knows better, when it wants nb bodies it won't consider amab bodies, and when it wants femme bodies it'll even take afab nb bodies even when they ask it to stop
it's almost like the net doesn't know better at all

I'll say it here because no one will fucking see it:
real talk--I have wanted to write more nonfic, I have even wanted very badly for most of this year to do more public-facing essay stuff, I missed the days when I used to use this blog almost exclusively for poetry and for replying to Idea Channel videos
and now that the hbomb vid is in the wild I am suddenly weirdly even more motivated
not so much by the clout or the money (although jesus christ I can think of some people who can't pay their light bills who deserve just an eight of that pile)
but just the notion that there are actually things I can't get out of my brain but the only reason I can't turn them into video is because I have too many responsibilities and too much mental illness, but I, like, want to make a video essay about Elementary for about four years now and at this point I should bite the bullet because at least all of the words in that word doc I drafted ages ago are mine

I know I'm not really here much these days, but I just wanted to let you all know I wrote two poems over the past few months that you can read over on my Patreon, if you're interested in supporting me and reading them!
Tumblr media
[Text: "It's the worst kind of inspiration, but I wrote a poem about the joy of [metaphorically] dancing on a wicked person's grave."] (link)
Tumblr media
[Text: "I wrote a poem at World Fantasy 2023 in Kansas City! It's... spicy. No, not like that--like, it has capsaicin in it."] (link)
I also recently had another poem come out in Strange Horizons' Caribbean SFF Special Issue (which is well worth your time to read in its entirety!) and you can read that here:
Thank you for your support of my work after all this time! Sometimes it feels like the internet is... falling apart, but you're all still rad.

• An Oxford comma walks into a bar, where it spends the evening watching the television, getting drunk, and smoking cigars.
• A dangling participle walks into a bar. Enjoying a cocktail and chatting with the bartender, the evening passes pleasantly.
• A bar was walked into by the passive voice.
• An oxymoron walked into a bar, and the silence was deafening.
• Two quotation marks walk into a “bar.”
• A malapropism walks into a bar, looking for all intensive purposes like a wolf in cheap clothing, muttering epitaphs and casting dispersions on his magnificent other, who takes him for granite.
• Hyperbole totally rips into this insane bar and absolutely destroys everything.
• A question mark walks into a bar?
• A non sequitur walks into a bar. In a strong wind, even turkeys can fly.
• Papyrus and Comic Sans walk into a bar. The bartender says, "Get out -- we don't serve your type."
• A mixed metaphor walks into a bar, seeing the handwriting on the wall but hoping to nip it in the bud.
• A comma splice walks into a bar, it has a drink and then leaves.
• Three intransitive verbs walk into a bar. They sit. They converse. They depart.
• A synonym strolls into a tavern.
• At the end of the day, a cliché walks into a bar -- fresh as a daisy, cute as a button, and sharp as a tack.
• A run-on sentence walks into a bar it starts flirting. With a cute little sentence fragment.
• Falling slowly, softly falling, the chiasmus collapses to the bar floor.
• A figure of speech literally walks into a bar and ends up getting figuratively hammered.
• An allusion walks into a bar, despite the fact that alcohol is its Achilles heel.
• The subjunctive would have walked into a bar, had it only known.
• A misplaced modifier walks into a bar owned by a man with a glass eye named Ralph.
• The past, present, and future walked into a bar. It was tense.
• A dyslexic walks into a bra.
• A verb walks into a bar, sees a beautiful noun, and suggests they conjugate. The noun declines.
• A simile walks into a bar, as parched as a desert.
• A gerund and an infinitive walk into a bar, drinking to forget.
• A hyphenated word and a non-hyphenated word walk into a bar and the bartender nearly chokes on the irony

Sometimes the rats in my brain come together and start yelling “YEARNING” and in trying to appease them I ask “FOR WHAT” but they are too small so all they can say is “YEARNING” which is a very big word for such a tiny creature, even collectively

If you could have one Shakespeare play done by the Muppets what would it be?
obviously a Midsummer Night's Dream, can you imagine? Kermit as Oberon, Miss Piggy as Titania, the non-fae characters are played by the only humans, when Bottom is transformed he physically becomes a muppet, Puck is naturally Gonzo with bonus Rizzo
