A Broad Definition of Idealization and Devaluation:

"In psychoanalytic theory, when an individual is unable to integrate difficult feelings, specific defenses are mobilized to overcome what the individual perceives as an unbearable situation. The defense that helps in this process is called splitting. Splitting is the tendency to view events or people as either all bad or all good. When viewing people as all good, the individual is said to be using the defense mechanism idealization: a mental mechanism in which the person attributes exaggeratedly positive qualities to the self or others. When viewing people as all bad, the individual employs devaluation: attributing exaggeratedly negative qualities to the self or others.

In child development, idealization and devaluation are quite normal. During the childhood development stage, individuals become capable of perceiving others as complex structures, containing both good and bad components. If the development stage is interrupted (by early childhood trauma, for example), these defense mechanisms may persist into adulthood."

Last night I decided that I am going to put together a reggae group and try to work on my vocals (as well as play guitar). I chose the genre reggae not because it is my favorite but actually because of an artist by the name of Rebelution. Listen to his tunes. He's got some great words. As I reviewed my footage while all y'all folks were sleeping, I realized that I had enough footage to put together a full length documentary, and that I would have even more when I had access to Jonathan Gourd's files. You have to learn to walk, before you learn to run (HOW THIS QUOTE HAS CHANGED MY LIFE)

The reason why this quote is being put on my blog is because it allowed me to make an impulsive decision today, but one that I am going to follow through with and not change my mind about. While I was in the shower, getting ready to head out, I was thinking about how terrible of a drug problem I had. I was thinking about change, and everything that has been discussed about the word in the past few days. I decided that it was time to get some new ink. Here is what I am getting and then I will explain why: On my right calf, I will be getting tattooed in calligraphy the words Drugs are not a reality, just a way of temporarily hiding from it. Embedded in the background, I will be getting a marijuana leaf tattooed within the quote.  Why, what is the meaning of this to me?: Well the first thing that I realize, is that I need to surround myself in numerous ways to ensure myself  that I will stay strong and not go back to my drug of choice. I know that if I don't I will let current feelings fade away in regards to it and then give in and relapse at one point or another. I shower every day, and when I do I will be able to see this on my body, for the rest of my life. Ink is a way to serve a constant reminder to you until the day you die. AG made me realize this through something that he wrote on his Facebook wall. Ink may fade, but so will my problems in time. But once it is done, it will always be a part of your life. As soon as I have the money to go get this done, after I have taken care of all of my financial obligations of current. I will be doing so. The reason for the placement of this tattoo, is because it is part of my past, and not my future. On my leg, due to the quote that made me realize this. That way, I have to "look back" to be reminded, but at least I will know its there.  The reason for the marijuana leaf? For a good portion of my life I was a pothead, a happy pothead, and there's nothing wrong with marijuana in moderation. I believe that it should be legalized, and stand strong on that belief. Regardless of whether it is or is not legal, I will continue in taking part in smoking bowls, blunts, bongs and shizz with my loved ones because well hey, it brings peace and happiness plain and simple if none of the healthy factors of smoking cannabis are real, at least I know it will do this, for I have experienced it myself. SO ALWAYS REMEMBER. YOU HAVE TO LEARN TO WALK BEFORE YOU LEARN TO RUN. THIS IS ONE IMPULSIVE DECISION THAT I WILL NEVER REGRET BECAUSE IT WAS VERY WELL THOUGHT OUT IN A MATTER OF SECONDS. SCORE 1 J.
