I had a dream that you built your garden with her, and that she planted the vegetables too close without giving them room to grow. I tried to tell her so, only to have her hiss that you belonged to her and that I should go.

I looked to you and you stood passively by, filled with neither agreement or protest while I was to the brim with hate. Assuming indifference, I left, but my heart was stiff with ache. I watched your garden fade.

And while I tried to laugh, “I told them so!”, it didn’t change the fact that I planted mine alone. My fingers dirty from digging, and my love turned to stone.

In your wilderness I feel safe like nowhere else. Life throbs within, when the warmth of your gaze sends chill down my spine.

Each day I fall more and more in love with you. You're like this unexpected gem that fell from the sky on my hike up the mountain of life. Just holding you and seeing you makes the light around me sparkle more and the climb less steep

Lucky One

I always thought guys like you were only found in fiction. You know, the guys who give you roses just because, or serenade you to see you smile on a bad day. The guys who drop everything to be with you because they can’t stand another moment apart. You know, the one who turns on the music at home, hands you a glass of wine, and dances silly with you. The one who turns your sad tears into happy tears, and can make you laugh even after he leaves the room. The one who encourages you to be a better person, trusts you and supports your dreams. Basically, the perfect guy I’ve ever thought or read about.

I would reason to myself that even if those guys were real, I would never be the girl to date one. Not just because I thought guys like that were rare, but because I have always been looked over and called the “uglier friend”. I’ve been disregarded and left behind when her friends had their “ones”. Even if a guy did like me, they would get over me real quick -- I was just a phase, one they wouldn’t revisit. So, who would pick me? Who would get to know me, beyond the laughter and into the scars?

Well, you picked me.

And you surprised me.

You don’t see me as the ugly friend or the the inept one. You haven’t left me, after getting bored. 

You see me as beautiful, with no compare. You see me as capable and driven. You see me beyond my laughter. You see me raw, and still love me. That amazes me, and I am floored every time you express your love for me.

So, I won’t let you down. I’ll be your sunshine on a cloudy day. I want to be everything good in this world for you, because you’ve been that for me. You made me the lucky one.

Long Distance

Long distance...it sucks. I can't hold your hand, kiss your lips, and caress your face. I can't talk with you until odd hours of the night as we sip on wine. I can only view your eyes through the screen and hear your voice through the phone. I count down the weeks, hours, days, minutes until I can see you again.
