"A perfume must be a work of art, the object that contains it, must be a masterpiece." Robert Ricci A snippet from my interview with André Cognat - Les Enfants du Parfum. I first met André at an antiques fair in southwest France and was flabbergasted by his fragrance collection, he had more than 13,000 bottles. And not just any old bottles, antique bottles, extremely rare bottles, giant flacons, limited editions, and so on. He has a "travelling museum" and takes his collection on the road, to educate fragrance enthusiasts about the rich history of the fragrance flacon, because in his mind (and mine) the 'envelope' for the perfume is just as important as the contents. I'm thrilled that I got to interview him for my upcoming book, "Fragrance is my Favourite F-Word" in which he shares my passion for perfumery and is equally frustrated that big brands, for the last 50 years, have neglected their heritage and even "having seen them throw away part of their memory in our dustbins" - now they are taking an interest in this safeguard. Perhaps because to know where we are going, we need to know where we come from? Watch the video of when I first came across his travelling museum... https://bit.ly/3WgXhlW
