I Need A Vacation!

I can't believe I'm saying this, but lately I haven't enjoyed making jewelry.  It could be because I have been incredibly busy with custom orders and dealing with shop owners who carry my line, that I haven't had the time to create anything I want to make.  Take a look at my work surface, I've been staring at it for hours and cannot muster any inspiration.

That is why this weekend I am heading south of the border and enjoying some time off, hopefully to come back feeling inspired and ready to create.

Anatomy of a Custom Piece

A customer requested that I modify the monogram stacking rings listed in my store.  She wanted one ring to have an initial, the other to be a heart.  I love challenges so I said 'for sure!' and got to work.  Here is a photo journal of the journey from start to finish.

I made a prototype in polymer clay first

After I was satisfied with the polymer clay version, I made them in metal clay.  Here are the tops of the rings in dried metal clay

Here they are after being fired to become pure silver
