Sirens are savvy creatures, incredibly manipulative and clever...a little like reporters, some would say. Which is exactly the direction these ladies went in because they now run the only newspaper in Barton Hollow; "The Siren Times"

You know what they say, darling listeners: life is a fleeting, fragile thing that can blow by in the blink of an eye. One day you’re petting your first flying alligator, and the next you’re riding on your own charmed dragon through the ever-shifting landscape of our 100 Hectare Woods, unsure just how you got to be that age. Though our own fair town has no concept of time in the way most of us do, disappearing for one century only to show up in another as if it had always been there, always as strange and welcoming as ever, it’s never become clear to us just how this strange magic works...until now. Listeners, it seems like just yesterday we were holding our Centennial anniversary, remembering all the strange and unexplainable events in our extensive history, our hearts all swelling with pride and joy for the beautiful southern town we live in, despite the bloodied and desperate ending to our most celebratory night yet. But that was not just yesterday, nor was it just another month ago, nor another year ago.
No, our precious listeners, it was but ten years ago that our strange little town turned five-hundred years old.
How time could have flashed-foward so quickly from one year to the next, to the next and onward, not even we understand, but we know that it couldn’t have been by some silly little mishap, for we all remember our feisty little fury Layla Matin’s graduation from Barton Hollow University. We remember the deaths of our family members and all the strange occurrences that have happened in those ten years. We remember our weddings and our disappearances, the honing of ours powers and the deals we made to rid ourselves of them. We remember everything, dear listeners -- but do we like what we’ve done with our time?
Here are a few notes to remember for this event:
Your character remembers everything that happened within the past ten years. This is not like our Halloween event where we went back in time for a week, your characters should be played as if they have lived out the past ten years normally.
You do not need to find an older faceclaim for your character. Though you may if you wish to, know that it is not mandatory. However, if you do choose to find another faceclaim, we ask that you make sure that they are of the same ethnicity that your character is and that they fit their new age range.
If your character’s vital connections are not taken and you wish for them to be a part of one of the main events that happened in your character’s life, you are free to set whatever end-game with them that you wish. This is your character’s future and we want you to give them the future that you want them to have, so long as that future is in-character for them (or explain why things went the way they did within the prompt if it is not)
On Deadlines and Requirements:
Our flash-forward week will last from March 18th to March 25th. You are only allowed to post starters focusing on this event within these days, as your characters will turn back to their normal selves come the 26th, but no new starters on this event are allowed after those dates. You are encouraged to turn starters into paras, and of course are allowed to continue paras and starters from the event in the days that follow. Just no new posts. There will be two mandatory prompts for this Southern Quirk. The first must be written on the first day of the event and may be written in whatever manner you’d like, including bullet point format, if you so wish. It will detail the main events in your character’s life within the ten years that have passed, so please take the time in these few days before the event starts to think about where you want your character to be and the things you want them to have endured in that time, so that others will know where your characters are in their life once the time comes for the event to actually start. The second prompt will be centered on a specific event in your character’s life that either took place within the ten years that have passed or that took place during the event. Please tell us what your character did during the specific event in their life and how they reacted, and please don’t be afraid to go into depth. Use this as an opportunity for your character to explore a whole other side of them and really delve into what your character would be like in the future and what the things they’ve done with their life means to them. They are due Friday March 28th and should be tagged #thereunionprompt and #bhquirks. If you cannot do the prompt, come to us within the first three days of the event and let us know. The only people exempt from this are new members who get accepted this Saturday and anyone whose hiatus lasts past the deadline. For starters and graphics, you may tag them as #thereunionprompt, on top of our regular tags for both starters and graphics.
Residents of Barton Hollow, we hope these last ten years have been good to you and that time has given you everything you ever wanted! If not, well, there’s a whole new generation of witches and voodoo priests and priestesses who we’re sure would be more than willing to give you the future you always dreamed of -- for a price! As always, if you have any questions, come to us! We will do our best to sort things out.

"Well, it's a beautiful day out here, folks! The sun is high and there's not a single cloud in the sky. And here comes Miss Delilah Rose! Isn't she beautiful? We all remember her in her pageants, don't we? Our own southern belle, riding in a pink 1954 Ford. Yes, today is going to be a great day! A great day for a parade, a great day for a good ol'e time!"
And it was a beautiful day. Listeners, it was a perfect day. But as always, things took an unexpected turn. The sky opened up, filled with darkness, and drops of black spilled forth like rain. Only they moved, and out of the darkness spilled forth creatures, small and large, running after the screaming crowds, landing on top of the parade floats, bearing teeth and claws. Some dug in, tearing skin. Some played until their toys were left broken. The Queen watched, standing above it all, and looked down at The King with a smirk. It was his turn now, his move. And with an order, they all retreated, leaving the streets broken and bloody. Listeners, it seems there's been an attack during our towns Quincentennial Parade. There are reports of a dozen or so deaths, with triple that number injured and badly hurt. Doctors have been rushed to the hospital, but the roads are blocked due to the parade route, and our town is in a panic. Where were you when it happened? Where were you when the war against the Unseelie and Seelie Courts began? Or better said, what side are you on, and who will you be fighting for?

Despite the fact that the oldest town in the united states is only 450 years old, Listeners, this week Barton Hollow will be celebrating it's very first QUINCENTENNIAL! We're so proud of our little town, and in honor of this life changing event, our mayor and the faeries who still won't leave City Hall, have decided to throw a week long celebration. Nothing ghoulish or scary here, Listeners. No tricks and all treats. This week is going to be the best week our little town has ever seen. Yes, even better than that one time it rained chocolate chips for a whole week. We know, that's hard to believe. And it all starts the 12th.
Very much like The Summer Fair, our Quincentennial "bacchanalia," if you will, will be a week-long festivity of nothing but good, whole family time. Every day, Barton Hollow will have something different happening, but every day will be very much like the next--a celebration of this beautiful town and its quirky and strange inhabitants! The entire town is covered in colorful arrays, from wreaths to banners, every store wearing their pride strongly. Our town has never looked so beautiful!
Here is a list of some events happening throughout the week:
Fireworks
Every night ends with a firework show, each night more grand and amazing than the next, culminating to a grand finale at the very last day of the party, the 18th. Be on main street at exactly 8 PM to see it all!
Play
Everyday, at the outdoor stage in the park that was graciously built with a sizable donation from the Snows, the elementary school kids will be putting on a play about Barton Hollow's history. Hear about the founding of our town, and about the 10 Years of Stench--we still don't know what that smell was.
Craft Booths
Make garlands, make bird houses, make your very own flying alligator repellant. Bring home a little something that will make everyone in the family smile.
Dance Parties
Every other day, with the first one being on the opening day of our big festivity, there will be a dance party, complete with live musical performances. Held out in a different location each night, we have one down by the beach, out near the forest, one in the forest, and one right on Main Street! BYOB.
Parade
The very last day, the 18th, is our big parade! Making its way all throughout town, everyone who is anyone is marching and driving along, lead by none other than our almost state recognized marching band and their drum major, who is a centaur! All our royalty, all the Kings and Queens, and our Mayor, is going to be there! We've asked every leader of all of our lovely species to come, with the Ship Wreckers and the Sea Babes parading side by side (maybe not that close) in the spirit of town unity.
We have also been informed that it is mandatory for every citizen to attend. Failure to do so will result in interrogation and possible incarceration.
On Deadlines and Requirements
Because this is supposed to be a cause for celebration, we've actually decided to do something different this time ... there is no mandatory prompt! You are, of course more than welcome and even encouraged to write one, but it's completely optional! Instead, what we're mostly encouraging people to do, is to write as much as possible! Lets spam the dash (but still be considerate that everything gets replied to) and really boost activity! We're encouraging lots of new paras, that don't need to be long, but we're really just looking for as much participation as possible!
The event will start on Monday the 12th, the day after the roleplays one year anniversary, and will last up until Sunday the 18th. That last bit about wanting everyone to be present on Sunday is serious, by the way! Please try to be online that day, but that is all we can say on the matter.
If you choose to write a prompt, the tag you will use is #thequincentennialprompt. Any starters or graphics should be tagged #thequincentennialevent, as well as our usual starter tag for starters and #bhollowgraphics for graphics!
We hope you enjoy this event, and please remember that our aim is to have as much activity as possible! We want everyone to have the best time, and encourage people to go looking for new partners!
Don't forget to be online on the 18th!

For years we’ve dreamed of a white Christmas in our small southern town, and dear listeners, it seems our prayers have finally been answered! But at what price? Though this morning we were so filled with joy at the sight that we almost forgot about the nasty bug going around, simply pleased with the fact that we could still go about our daily lives, it seems our Christmas miracle has quickly taken a turn for the worse.
That’s right, dear listeners, we’ve become snowed-in.

For years we've dreamed of a white Christmas in our small southern town, and dear listeners, it seems our prayers have finally been answered! But at what price? Though this morning we were so filled with joy at the sight that we almost forgot about the nasty bug going around, simply pleased with the fact that we could still go about our daily lives, it seems our Christmas miracle has quickly taken a turn for the worse.
That's right, dear listeners, we've become snowed-in.
Yes, Barton Hollow residents, for the first time in years, it looks like we're going to have a White Christmas--it's just too bad we all won't be able to venture outside to see it. No, instead we've been confined to the hospital with all our ill friends and family while the snow falls relentlessly outside. Thankfully, our hospital has plenty of room, despite all the close confines will all our ill residents, and our lovely hospital workers are more than willing to let us remain inside for as long as we need! In fact, they'll even allow us to throw our own little party come Christmas Eve, so long as we all agree to help their poor little over-worked souls until the snow melts.
It's the Christmas season, little listeners, and what better time to put our skills to use than during a community white-out? There is none, which is why our friendly non-reptile neighbors urge us to do all we can to help out during this time, by doing what we all do best! If you can cook, put your skills to use in the kitchen! If you can help the nurses, volunteer to do so! It's all in the good spirit of Christmas, folks...and of wanting a great final night before the big day, despite the weather and illness!
On Deadlines and Requirements:
The white-out will last from Monday December 22th to Wednesday December 24th, with the 24th also being the date of our Christmas Eve party! You are only allowed to post starters focusing on this event within these days, as the snow will have melted substantially enough by the 25th, but no new starters on this event are allowed after those dates. You are encouraged to turn starters into paras, and of course are allowed to continue paras and starters from the event in the days that follow. Just please don't make any new posts.
A prompt will be the required writing task for this southern quirk. It can be either from the snowed in event, or from the Christmas Eve party, but they are due Thursday January 1st and should be tagged #whiteoutprompt and #bhquirks. If you cannot do a prompt, come to us within the first three days of the event, and we will allow you an extension. Any starters or graphics within this time frame should be tagged with #whiteoutevent. Our typical starter and graphics tag may also be used.
Barton Hollow residents, we ask you to enjoy this white-out for what it is: a time to get acquainted with your fellow residents and indulge in the wonder that is the holiday spirit! Though we're sure the hospital is the last place any of you want to be, remember the reward that you're working towards, and remember to have fun!

The doors opened to a hall of sparkling lights. The guests, all having the time of their lives, failed to notice the faint scent of sulfur in the air. It lingered, traveling into their lungs until they felt intoxicated to keep dancing. And dance they did, until the clock struck midnight. The night was young, the party had just begun -- But everyone found themselves changed. Like Cinderella, their carriages turned into pumpkins, and our little town of Barton Hollow once again found itself in a mess.
It seems our mysterious host for the party had ulterior motives, dear listeners. Maybe it was the punch, maybe it was that smell we all thought was Mr. O'Grady's cow, maybe it was the pumpkin cupcakes, but we have all turned into our costumes! Some of us are the same as we have always been, others of us have changed drastically, to the very core of our being.
We're sure it's not permanent though!
Underneath the cut you will find a list of the costumes once more, with specifics of what you become. We remind you all that you have until midnight tonight to us to tell us if you want to do a self para instead of a para with someone else. You also may start partnering up and beginning your para tonight -- there is no minimum or maximum length, you just need to reach 5 notes!
Here are some rules to make things easier for people:
Animals can talk (telepathically)
Plants/Inanimate objects can speak/walk (think Beauty and the Beast)
The explanations are bolded next to the costume.

Rowan Steele - Robot (a robot)
Samara Riley - Pig (a pig)
Sienna Aldrich - Cat (a cat)
Summer Lyons - Zombie Nun (a nun with a taste for human flesh)
Tamsyn Youngbloood - Werewolf (a werewolf)
Terra Silas - Vampire Mrs. Lovett (Mrs. Lovett now drinks blood)
Theodore Karr - Peter Pan (aged backward and can fly)
Victoria Bouvier - Hel (one side of face half dead, one half alive; anything dead side touches dies)
Violet Simmons - Poison Ivy (control over plants, as well as poison control)
Here are the people who did not pick a costume and had theirs chosen for them.
Anastasia Cohle - Barbie (physical appearance changes, as well as now made out of plastic)
Autumn Ainsworth - Giant (physical appearance changes)
Devan Kane - Humpty Dumpty (an egg that keeps leaking)
Eden Moreau - Frog Prince (a frog who can get out of this whole temporary curse with a kiss)
Eve Taylor - Malificent (the sorceress, plus physical appearance change)
Ezra Smythe - Fox (an actual fox)
Isadora Greene - Batman (half bat, half human)
Kalliope Finch - Flying Monkey (a monkey with wings)

When Laurel Wilson, the second grade elementary school teacher, woke up on November 2nd, she expected it to be November 2nd. But sometime during her second sip of her coffee, she caught a glimpse of her calendar and dropped her mug. Similar instances occurred all over town, with frantic callers ringing up the mayor's office in search for answers. Where did November 2nd go?
Every year, dear listeners, Daylight savings comes around and hits us hard. There's something about our little town that just can't handle the time change. Last year, it resulted in a debacle where the sun didn't come out for a good three days before the hour finally changed. But this year, oh dear listeners, this year is different and we don't know if for the better or worse -- this year, instead of an hour behind, we've gone a whole week behind.
You see, when Miss Wilson looked at her calendar, it read Sunday, October 26th.
However, this hasn't deterred some of our townsfolk. In fact, a mysterious, rich benefactor has opened up their large Snow Estate Mansion to the town and declared it a 'Hollow'een Feast for the masses. Because this year, there are two Halloweens in Barton Hollow, and maybe the second time is the charm.
You're reading correctly! Barton Hollow has gone back a whole week in time. No, your character is not mentally where they were a week ago -- it's just that instead of going forward, the days went backwards. However, we are positive that this next November 2nd will actually end and continue on to November 3rd, so really, there's nothing to be alarmed about.
Now, a few things you should know about the Hollows Eve Feast. The mysterious and rich benefactor has left us some serious rules:
You must be in costume
Try to limit the amount of 'character' costumes. (i.e: Alice from Alice in Wonderland - unless with a twist)
Costumes that are as far from human as possible are encouraged.
All costumes must be 'registered' when RSVP'ing. You can sign up via ask and check out the list of costumes HERE.
On Deadlines and Requirements
The 'party' will last from Friday November 7th to Monday November 10th. These dates are in our time, not Barton Hollow's a week behind. However, you will be allowed to make starters for this event now, as the date changes the moment you read this, just none at the party until Friday 5 PM CST. No new posts can be made once the party has ended, however.
As for the requirement, you will not be doing a self-para for this prompt! What you will be doing instead is a para with someone surrounding the events at the party, which will be detailed at a later time, so keep your eyes out. The para is required to hit five notes in order to be counted, and we urge you to roleplay with someone you haven't with before. It is due November 17th, and while you are allowed to have more than one para going on at the event, only one should be official and tagged with #bhquirks and #hollowseveprompt. If you cannot do the para, come to us within three days, and we will allow you to do a prompt instead. All starters and graphics within this time pertaining to the event should be tagged #hollowsevefeast as well as our usual open starter tags.
Once again, we urge you to be creative and pick someone you haven't roleplayed with before for the para. We also urge you to be creative with your costumes, and we will message you if we do not think they will work. We will be posting something else about the party come Friday before the event officially starts, so please keep your eyes open for that before making any party starters!
As always, have fun and any questions should be directed at the ask on the main!

To Die For || Power Outage Prompt
Something was itching away at the inside of Delilah’s chest, something that was all too familiar. Yet this time—it was different. She was well aware of the way ED could rip her to shreds from the inside out, leaving her with nothing but an empty stomach and a broken heart. But this time he was feeding off of something entirely different. The feeling was elating, but still held darkness so heavy it could crush her beneath its weight if she made the wrong move.
Delilah was hungry; hungry for something—for someone.
The halls were empty and a hotel key hung delicately on Delilah’s finger as she was pressed against the wall, kisses trailed down the side of her neck by the guy she met downstairs only a few minutes prior. “Oh, you’re impatient.” She laughed, the palm of her hand moving between his mouth and her skin to push him away long enough to get into the room.
Once inside she pulled him close, smashing her lips against his, an immediate burst of energy vibrating through her. It wasn’t until the body fell limp against her; almost knocking her off her feet that she realized something was seriously wrong. “Hey…” she whispered, pulling back a bit only for him to fall to the ground.
She blinked a few times trying to assess what was going on. Her body felt alive, free and energized but as the clock got closer to midnight and the longer she stared down at the lifeless body the more her insides began to wither away.
“This—This isn’t funny.” She said, voice shaking. “I-I…”
She couldn’t deal with it, so she left. She grabbed her jacket and purse and ran out, leaving whatever happened behind her. Gone but never forgotten. Always gone. Never forgotten.

once we could trust the simple spinning of the planet to bring us back...but to where?
Tamsyn feels the world shift around her, inside of her, and gasps.
***
The girl — a nameless stranger with sunshine hair and universe eyes — asks her if it feels better. Tamsyn isn’t sure she knows what better is, but the answer slips through her lips anyway, barely a whisper, like a secret or a prayer or a prophecy.
“I feel…lighter.”
***
She kisses Eve and it doesn’t taste anything like salvation.
Tamsyn misses it. She still loves her, but they aren’t the same stripped of desperation, no longer bound by the pull of need of addiction of gravity. She wonders what else has changed, what else she’s lost.
Tamsyn decides she doesn’t care.
***
Her fingers, long and pale and oh so nimble, tremble as she dials the number. Her heart burns brightly in her chest, a supernova about to come into being. She is breathless as it rings, oxygen deprived and dizzy and floating, and then…and then he picks up. Thomas.
“Hello…”
***
Tamsyn feels the world shift around her, inside of her, and gasps.

Uttering Such Dulcet and Harmonious Breath | PowerOutage.
Madeline was seven years old when she saw her first mermaid. The creature sat on the edge of the lake, unaware of the wide, fascinated eyes that appraised her. Light bounced off her scales, glimmering in the afternoon sunshine, and Madeline gasped. Of course she’d known about the town’s Mermaid citizens, had heard many a tale regaled about these vicious beauties; but to see them up close and in their natural form was something else entirely. Madeline’s little heart raced, and as she watched the creature braid her long hair she forgot about the trouble she’d find herself in when she went home, about the argument between her parents that drove her out of the house in the first place. She wanted to be just like that woman; beautiful and fascinating. She wanted to sprout a tail and dive into the depths. She wanted to be a mermaid.

A fit of witchery against witchery
“How long has it been?” Terra asked grimly as she stared into nowhere in particular. The room was dark, the only source of light being the EXIT sign that hung above them. It made for enough light to see Ira next to her, but the rest of the hall was distorted shapes and shadows. It was enough to drive Terra distracted. “It has still only been half an hour,” he said, his voice strangely calm for having had to answer this question countless times in the last little while. “We can’t be the only hunters gone witches, so why are we the only ones suspended?” The entire company was suspended for the time being, mind you, however Terra and Ira were the only ones ordered to stay put while everyone else was out to observe and interfere when necessary, but not to take action against anyone in Barton Hollow until this issue was resolved. “I dare say that is because we are the only hunters gone witches seemingly out of control,” he pressed. Terra could feel his glare, the red light of the sign making it all the more unsettling. “I didn’t mean to knock him out the window! It wasn’t my fault,” she said defensively. “Precisely,” he sighed, “This doesn’t explain why I’m grounded, too.”
“I set my breakfast on fire. How’s that for out of control?” Terra said bitterly. Ira laughed, his voice echoing in the empty gymnasium. “I made a coffee pot explode at the Mystic this morning. They weren’t pleased with me. It came down from the ceiling.” This made Terra laugh in turn, “I would have paid to see that!” There was a pause, and then she turned to look her friend up and down, “I made someone’s clothes disappear.” At first Ira laughed, but he was quick to realize that she could be very well trying to repeat the trick. “Don’t look at me,” he said childishly. “I wasn’t doing anything,” Terra grinned, clearly enjoying making him squirm. Ira grumbled something unintelligible and leaned back to the wall they were positioned against. “How long do you think it’ll last?” Terra sighed and shook her head, “I don’t know – a couple of days, maybe? That’s the general time frame, is it not?” Most Barton Hollow oddities were quick to pass with little repercussions. Both hunters had a feeling, however, that this time might be different. People were out of control, struggling with powers that weren’t their own. This was the perfect predisposition for chaos. “If they insist on keeping us here, they better bring us pizza,” he said. “Don’t be so negative, Ira, this could be fun!” Terra nudged him with her shoulder. “It is doubtful. I’m stuck here with you,” he said. Terra sighed, “I’m sure it gets better.”
“How long has it been?” Terra asked for perhaps the seventh time ever since they settled into the gym. Ira reluctantly checked his watch, “Thirty-four minutes.” She got to her feet and looked down at her best friend expectantly, “Let’s do something.” Ira’s perplexed expression was answer enough and she sighed, “We’re witches, damn it, we might as well enjoy it!” This propelled Ira into action. He stood up and grinned at Terra, “Want to see what I can do?” She nodded. He took a few steps back, then launched himself into the air and remained hovering two feet or so above the ground. “Cool, isn’t it?” Terra was not sure what she was looking at. Her best friend hovered above the ground like he weighed no more than a gram – how could that be? “That is unfair!” She whined, “Why can’t I levitate?” Ira laughed and brought himself back down to the ground. “Because, Terra, it’s Levi-OH-sa, not Levio-SAH.” Unfortunately for him, Terra understood the reference and it earned him a punch in the shoulder. “Ow!” Ira complained. “Be a man about it,” she countered. Terra leaned against the wall, and crossed her arms over her chest, “This is going to be a long few days.” The initial, and granted, childlike excitement about their temporary powers quickly subsided, and Ira nodded in agreement, “I think so.”
