My microblog where all my random thoughts about JRPGs get thrown onto. Enjoy.

Just started Nier: Automata. Fun so far, I've only done the first "mission", so the first 40 minutes or so. Lots of bullet-hell which I don't normally play but I like it in this game.

Ni No Kuni’s Hamelin ...
Why is everyone a pig?! Does this get explained? I’m leaving Hamelin now after fixing the prince’s broken heart but I still don’t get why everyone’s a pig ... ???

FFXV UNIVERSE EXPANDED...?
So they announced an addition to the Final Fantasy XV universe… Monster of the Deep. It’s a fishing game.
In VR.
Who the fuck asked for a FFXV VR fishing game?? Seriously? It feels so gimmicky. Like they just wanted to throw a bit of VR in FFXV somewhere.
Is anyone even excited?

Trails of Cold Steel: Romance???
So I know Cold Steel has some minor romancing involved, just a few scenes here and there that change depending on who you’re trying to “romance” at the time.
Alisa’s the canon female love interest but I found her kind of boring.
I kind of wanted to pick Jusis hehe, as he’s my favourite character, but I decided Rean’s probably into girls so, in the end, I went with Laura, who is also a favourite of mine <3 What do you think??

LOA EREBONIUS and how I took him down
Day 2 of the fight against Loa Erebonius. Literal day two, because the first day I died so many times, and it was getting late, so I gave up.
Okay guys, so here’s how you can take him down if you are like me -- Don’t have the best equipment or quartz or optimal arts set up. Didn’t bother looking for recipes and thus, can’t cook any crazy good food. Don’t want to grind levels.
1) I used Rean, Elliot, Laura and Jusis/Alisa (swapped them a couple times but mostly used Jusis). I don’t know what the optimal party is, but that’s who I used. I would say, though, Elliot’s craft ability, Resounding Beat, was EXTREMELY useful, so he’s probably the most necessary of the group. Laura would be my #2 pick for necessary as she’s just stupid strong.
2) Don’t know what’s the best quartz and arts to use but I found Chrono Break and Adamantine Shield very useful. Of course, and the healing abilities and make sure Elliot has Athelas.
3) Kill the minions FIRST. Do not leave any minions alive! I will use S-crafts on them (targeting the boss as well) if needed to, get rid of them as fast as possible. The big bad boss on his own isn’t too terrible, but when he has his minions, the amount of damage output will become difficult to sustain.
4) Your character got sucked up by the boss? Unless it’s Elliot, I just let them stay sucked up. Yes they will die at the end, but you can just revive them. Unless there’s a lot of minions, then I will use an S-craft, which will also release your character from the boss (if your S-craft hits the boss too, which you should try to make it do).
5) Save your S-crafts for when you need to clear minion groups OR your character is having a critical-hit on their turn.
6) Use up those Zoram Capsules or Powders, and all those potions and stuff. It’s the last boss so you don’t need to save them for anything else.
7) Keep Resounding Beat up on all characters whenever you can. Use Adamantine Shield on Elliot when you think the boss is going to do its big attack soon or there’s way too many minions on the field (it costs a lot of EP so I understand you cannot have it on him ALL the time). Try to Burn the boss if you can, the Burn status effect helps with the damage output a lot (ex. Rean’s craft ability, Flame Impact). I also used Jusis’ Noble Command to increase strength and his Rapid Thrust to delay the boss.
That’s how I killed this boss (many tries later) without being some sort of Trails of Cold Steel prodigy. It does take time, and a lot of chipping away at the boss’ health, but you will get to the end eventually! I didn’t really use Arts very much other than for healing.
GOOD LUCK.

Coming out on November 10th!
Reminds me I should finish the first Ni No Kuni, haha. Going through it slow because I’m playing with my sister and have to wait for our days off to line up. We’re almost at the halfway mark in the game so ... I think we can finish it by November!

Picked this up used today.
I’d been debating between the PS3 original and the PS4 remaster for months. Today I finally decided on the PS3 version because 1) it’s at least $10 cheaper and 2) I honestly can’t really tell the difference, graphically, between the two unless I really scrutinize a side by side image.
Yah I know PS4 has faster loading times but I watched a YouTube video and it’s not faster by much.
Hope to play it soon …. *looks at backlog and cries*

Finally, Kingdom Hearts III stuff! Never mind the fact I’m still trying to catch up and understand its convoluted plot. But despite that, the series still captivates ... <3 <3 <3
Trailer looks good, the graphics and music look and sounds great. It’s nothing shocking, but the trailer’s got me hyped :D
Maybe it’ll even come out next year! (Ha ha ha!)
Oh yeah, by the way, Amazon Canada has the pre-order for this game at $49.99 right now instead of $79.99. Super good deal!

So close to the end of Cold Steel
Trying to beat the final boss of Trails of Cold Steel (the first game), Loa Erebonius. Fucking nightmare!! I can barely put a dent in the guy before he annihilates my team. I mean, I hold my own pretty well for a good 30-45 minutes but then he somehow kills everyone and I look at his HP bar and like, maybe only 20% is his health is gone ...
It’s really disheartening, augh!
FYI my team is Rean, Emma, Laura, Fie, Jusis (<3), Elliot. Maybe I should switch up the party?
It’s also 1:00 AM here now, and I know this boss is going to take several hours’ worth of tries and retries and frustration ... so I’m going to call it a night and try again tomorrow. We’ll see what happens then ...
