it’s disability pride month so i want to talk about one of my least favorite stigmas around celiac disease

in lots of media, being gluten free is played as a joke or something someone is to be annoying/pretentious. the amount of times i’ve heard jokes like that is honestly disheartening.

it also doesn’t help with the general population’s belief that celiac disease/gluten sensitivities are not serious. i’ve been diagnosed with celiac disease for 3 years now, i’ve been gluten free for about 4, and it has substantially improved my quality of life. i can’t afford risking cross-contamination because it leaves me sick for days. nearly every time i have a reaction to gluten, it’s hard for me to even drink water the next day because my body is an absolute mess. i’m miserable and fatigued for days until my body heals. not to mention the long term effects that have left me unable to stand/walk around for extended periods of time because my joints are pretty weak.

being gluten free NEEDS to be taken seriously. it’s not a choice i’ve made because i’m hoping on the latest fad, its not a preference, it’s an autoimmune disorder.

I feel like some of you guys think "bad art" is like someone gluing rhinestones to a water melon, or a guy who made his own armchair out of Ohio license plates, or a trashy romance novel where someone says "the blue-eyed one kissed the brown-eyed one," when in reality bad art is a 1000000 Billion Dollar movie where none of the workers got paid and every single creative decision was market tested to see how lucrative of a profit it could foreseeably make to wow shareholders.

sometimes i think about the astral express family and a theme of the trailblaze and honkai star rail as a whole being found family and misfits finding each other and unconditional love and discovery and i just start crying a bit. this stupid fucking gacha game means so much to me

hug a stuffed animal

play a board game with friends/family

try to get some sleep

cook/bake something

vent to a friend

scroll through cute animal photos

spend time in nature

volunteer somewhere

remember you are loved and none of this is your fault

take some deep breaths

stay offline for a day or two

make a simple craft/art project

crumple up pieces of paper/scribble all over them

read a book

go for a hike

listen to calming music

take your meds

know that there are people trying to make things better. not everyone is working against you. you are loved <3

gentle reminder that “gay panic�� is not a cutesy way of describing a gay character freaking out over another character or their sexuality. gay panic is a legal defense tactic used in the US until very recently to get homophobes out of facing consequences for killing or assaulting queer people. it is neither cute nor funny.
