we are in dire need of some new media trend. we've done pirates, we've done cowboys; we've gone through two whole zombie revivals. aliens and space themes have basically been a constant since at least the 1950s, as have robots and evil AIs. we went pretty heavy on vampires for a while. we've also done dinosaurs, ninjas, musicals, wizards, sea creatures, ancient rome, ancient egypt, middle ages out the wazoo, entirely too much world war II, we're currently overdosing on our superhero phase, we've done monsters (misunderstood), monsters (radioactive), fake guy in the real world, real guy travels to fake world, caves & mining, vikings, what if you were really small, genre parody as a genre, sand, New York, time travel, something racist goes down in the jungle, neurodivergent detective, buddy cops, crooked cops, gangsters, bank heists in particular, kid has powers, revolt against the corporate world, portals, social insects, dragons, the British, global apocalypse, martial arts, roadtrip as self-discovery, Jesus, clones, clowns, babysitting goes wrong, demonic possession, ghosts of all kinds, talking animals, fucking with the stock market, restaurant ownership, dwarves, planes, and spies. where do we go from here. what's our next big thing

If Bobby Dawn is involved with the Rat Grinders any more than being Buddy's Granddad I'll cry because you KNOW Ivy reminds him of the little seventeen year old ranger who wanted nothing more than adventure and was so easy to manipulate. You know Ivy reminds him of Sandra Lynn.

the mineraft diaries in my head always exists under tree cover, perpetual dusk. there's a strange alienness to the world, a strange quietness. Empty guard towers and ruins, crystals in every cave, hushed voices, nervous pacing, sure. but more than anything, being shrouded under near constant cover of a thick forest, never quite as bright as you want it. night comes on suddenly, constantly, everything important happening under a clear night sky

this is purely for fun and I've certainly been guilty of a few of these things myself in my years of fic writing. don't be weird in the notes and don't use this as an excuse to insult someone's writing.

You know what I fucking love about Suvi is that I have personally, as a woman, never been able to relate to the "um are you mad at me?" thing. Or rather I can, in that I've had other women say this to me, but like, in a vacuum, this would not have ever occurred to me as a normal thing to say and my answer has always been either "No, but am I doing something that makes you think I am?" or "No, but you've asked me this three times in 2 hours and now I'm starting to get annoyed." Like actually, representation for women who are like "I reject the idea that nonconfrontation is good and appropriate; I'm not going to simmer in resentment and let it out passive-aggressively over the rest our our lives while plastering a smile on my face and telling myself it's kinder; I'm going to actually communicate honestly even if it's not going to make you happy." I think she's extremely justified in being upset anyway but it's also like, even if you're angry about something stupid it's better to let people know so that they can give you space and so that you can get over it instead of tamping it down until it explodes inconveniently.

thinking about the poll about canon vs non-canon ships that didn't define terms, and the current fandom focus on things "going canon," so i made up a scale.

this is NOT a question about whether canon matters to what you ship (or matters at all), just how to define the phrase "canon ship."

many ships start low on the scale and slow burn their way up, so vote for the point when you would have called them "canon." i agonized over the order (especially #4-6) for a day and a half, but i went with the order in which i think joe random with a nielsen ratings box and no tumblr account would notice/call something a romantic relationship.

it really does drive me crazy trying to interact with any of the popular fantasy high posts on here. because people will say with their whole chest they hate and have got no sympathy for the rat grinders and that a) jawbone should've punched kipperlilly with her Undiagnosed Mental Health Issues (you know, like the ones adaine used to have in freshman year?) b) the bad kids should take them all someplace to 6v1 them one by one and cold blooded murder them (??????) c) whole heartedly hate and make fun of them for being scared and alone and dead when they went on an adventure with a teacher and adult who was supposed to PROTECT them in a place they weren't prepared for.

the rat grinders were just. normal students. they are more like you than you could ever be like the bad kids. they were mid & they didn't want to be so they pushed themselves too fast too far and now all of them have got the worst survivor's guilt on earth on top of actively having to serve the rage incarnation of a dead god.

if you have the cognitive dissonance where one of the bad kids was in the plot line and you'd be drawing fanart making angsty meta crying about your poor baby forced into a bad situation and turn around and go 'lol nah shoot THESE guys in the head though' when it's an NPC I can only assume you've not understood narrative parallels or learned empathy past, like, a kindergarten level

The thing I love about Fabian as a character is that he is currently living the life that people write Sad Steve Harrington fics about but we will never get to see the intense angst scenes in those fics because he’s being played by the worlds most committed to the bit comedian so instead of ever unpacking any of that he eats animals organs raw.

people being flabbergasted that Sandra Lynn would sleep with Bobby Dawn is crazy to me bc that man immediately read as a guy who had those All-Solisian good looks and a high charisma score when he was like. late twenties early thirties. those types of people become televangelists for a reason, because they're good at convincing people lmao
