Q vs. Danny, My Writing Style

Deciding on which name to use in a particular instance is a bit of a challenge.

Sometimes its easy - when he’s considering things as if he were at work, being actively watched and needing to impress his superiours or simply interacting with people who don’t know the man behind the Quartermaster, he will think of himself as Q and so its easy. When dealing with the very few who are fully aware of his entire story - Gareth and Mycroft, essentially - he is more likely to think of himself as Danny but will insist on being referred to as Q.

But when he’s alone, meeting new people, or talking to himself its not so clear-cut. The difference falls to whether he is dealing with logic or emotions. Q is the impersonal, object-oriented and realist side that was bred out of trauma - his escape from the overwhelming sense of what life has put him through. Danny on the other hand is the romantic who readily embraces that trauma and refuses to forget anything. 

Reasonably, Q and Danny are interchangable, and it would not really matter which one I used, but stylistically I feel there is a difference to be made by associating the Danny moniker as him working through an emotional trend, instincts, gut feelings and some philosophical thinking, while The Quartermaster is a bit colder, logical, materialistic, serious and business side of who he is. It depends on which side is leading his actions through a situation which name - Q or Danny - is the one I choose to write at any given time. Well, except for in threads that take place before he was hired onto Q Branch, that would just be ridiculous.

Both sides exist in balance within him for the most part, but occasionally there is a battle for dominance. He’s very aware of his internal struggle of mind vs. heart, but actually keeping it under control is another matter entirely.
