Aether reached and pulled his map from his backpack, and held it open for him to see.

"I am filling this out to the specifics, looking for abandoned chests, and puzzles as well."

He scanned the map one last time before looking up to him to see his expression.

He can’t help but smile as he sees the familiar blonde. Head tilting as he crosses his arms over his chest watching him.

“Well if isn’t my good friend the traveler, what are you doing out here on your own?”

Aether smiled, watching the ginger come closer. Some would feel uneased around him, but Aether found his presence comforting.

"I would love you to join me. I am not doing anything particularly exciting... But, I know I will be safer with you having my back."

It was true, he usually felt safe with Childe around, unless he was his sparring opponent... But that was a rare thing.

"I'm not sure what you mean by 'squishable'...?" Could it be her cheeks? They might be a little bigger than average, but that doesn't mean she'll let anyone squeeze them.

Lumine sat with Aether's head in her lap, a shaky hand petting his hair. He didn't move, didn't react, his body already having gone cold, but she refused to move. Numbness penetrated her entire being as she couldn't accept his death. They had finally reunited only for her to lose him again. He looked so peaceful as if he was sleeping.

"A-aether... wake up... it's time to go... y-you have to wake up... Aether... A-Aether p-please..." she said, her voice slowly becoming more hysteric as she shook her brother shoulders. Large tears were spilling down her cheeks as she tried to choke back sobs. "Aether, we have to go home! Pl-Please wake up! Aether! A-Aether!"

She pulled her brother up into her arms, hugging and cradling his body to close to her as her small body was wracked with heartbroken sobs. Her whole world was finally crashing down around her. Her other half was gone. She'd searched the Seven Nations, crossed oceans, climbed mountains, all of it for him. But now they could never return to the way things once were.

"Ah-" he looked at his own scars, then back to Lumine.

"Could you... Look at it first? Then I will let you take care of the cuts after, okay?" He smiled nervously. He held the box close, as it was something he'd put a lot of time into, and he was worried he would drop it.

Aether went over to his dear sister and tapped her on the shoulder, then handed her a wooden box. He wasn't wearing his gloves, and his hands had a few splinters and cuts throughout them but nothing serious that wouldn't heal over in a few minutes. The box wasn't too small, nor too large, and it had a small crank on the side. It had little intricate messy detailing along the sides that lead to the opening hinge at the front.

Aether looked to Lumine and smiled, speaking quietly. "I made this for you, I really hope you like it, Lumi."

Call it twin instinct, but she had immediately taken note of the small injuries on his fingers, eyebrows furrowed. "Did you go through all that trouble...just for me?"

"Do I like it? I love it. It's perfect! ...But let's get those hands of yours patched up, okay? Even if it's just a couple of cuts, we should take proper care of it or else it might get infected."

"Well," Aether started, pondering the path as if he had the entire map of Teyvat memorised in that mysterious mind of his.

"If you go through the desert, it will not be a clear path. You will have to walk around various things, like the stand-still dust storm that swirls in the midst of Mt. Damavand."

Aether explained, his hands sublty gesturing to some invisible map in the air.

"Then the walk between the realm of Farakhkert... And Gavireh Lajavard. If you kept walking straight you would come to the water, then you would have to turn right to continue to Fontaine. that is where you would see a large drop that shows a view of the hydro nation."

After that long and detailed explanation, Aether smiled to Albedo as he'd hoped it had helped him in some way. Aether was not known to be talkative in the slightest, so his rambling was most definitely unusual.

Aether seemed happy that Albedo enjoyed his presence.

"As lovely as my time in Sumeru has been — it is time for me to start heading to Fontaine. I'll certainly have to come back here sometime, however... And not necessarily just for the scenery and research opportunities."

"Apparently, there is a line that leads directly to Fontaine from Liyue; so there isn't any need for me to make my journey there through the desert... Though I'm still considering it."

Albedo had been fascinated by stories of the tech and history of the desert, and considering he'd never visited there — he was honestly considering making the unnecessary journey through the sweltering heat just for the scientific possibilities.

"... Tighnari warns me against it, though. It's supposedly very dangerous there. I am unlikely to be as affected by the heat as much as others are, but for someone who is used to the cold of Dragonspine... Perhaps it really wouldn't be a good idea for me to go there."

I FINALLY found my voice headcanon for aether and it works because it's ACCENTED!!
