As historic as 11 was, landing on the moon, the crew of Apollo 8 were the first humans to leave the Earth and go to the moon. Nobody had ever been that far from home before.

The plane closest to the camera does not have the tail fairing, but the second one does. The 4th plane is a B model. This is an interesting combination.
