But what makes this case anymore credible, than… the hundred-year-old mother with the lizard baby?

“I want to believe” is actually my favourite catchphrase to come out of The X-Files because it’s simultaneously optimistic and skeptical. “Wanting to believe” is different from blind faith - it implies that you’re holding out for a burden of proof, even when the belief itself is desirable. There’s a level of restraint in that phrase that is so beautiful and pure; it feels wondrous and curious but also totally sane and grounded in reality. I think that’s why it continues to resonate.

I love that David Duchovny’s signature cocktail is a Screwdriver. It is quite simply the most Duchovny thing in the history of Duchovny. I can just picture his rationale:
“Well… I need to watch my boyish figure so I try to avoid beer - it really bloats me out. Also, a lot of beer is not vegan! Have you heard of Finings? It’s pretty gross - look into it. And wine - well - I love a nice wine, lots of health benefits there, but sometimes the sulfites really get to me and you can’t always get a *good* glass of wine at a bar - especially not the venues I’ll be playing in. On tour. With my band. Now… Vodka! Vodka is low-cal, usually very clean, and I tolerate it well - probably because of my Russian heritage. And I find that the Vitamin C in the orange juice really keeps me from feeling hungover the next day, and gives me that extra boost I need to maintain my energy on stage. But the best part is… it’s a two ingredient cocktail! You can’t fuck it up! You’ll never lose with a screwdriver.” -David Duchovny, probably.
