alternative?
Domeniek Ruyters:
Dat spreekt toch boekdelen, lijkt me.’

Very interesting event, sarah! Are you going to participate in that restaurant day? I was planning to do something inside the schieblock, with growing beetroots and making soup, but before 4th of feb. is not enough time for growing vegatables.
If you have an idea in participating in the event, I really like to know or maybe we can see if we can do something together?

RESTAURANT DAY
Tumblr media
Create your own pop-up restaurant for a day!   (next r-day is the 4.th of feb 2012)
Restaurant Day is a one-day carnival in favor of free-spirited restaurant and food culture. The first Restaurant Day was organized on 21 May 2011 and the second one on 21 August 2011. The event has taken Finland by storm, with 180 restaurants popping up last time. The next Restaurant Day will take place on Saturday 19 November 2011. Restaurant Day is a day when anyone and everyone is encouraged... to open a pop up restaurant, café or bar. Just for the day. The quirkier the concept, the better. No permissions, no rules, just plain fun. Why? Because you're worth it, because we love food, and because every city needs more no-strings fun. Hop on board and join dozens of enthusiastic restauranteurs – now catering to thousands of food and fun lovers all around Finland, and hopefully around the world! This is how you join in: Choose a location. It can be anywhere: in your home, at your office, in the park, on the beach. It’s Restaurant Day, you get to choose! Respect others, but go wild. Now create a concept. As simple as a juice bar on your favorite street corner – or as extravagant as a sandwich bar lowering baskets from a high window, a late night raw food kiosk, a prohibition-style speakeasy in a hat shop, or haute cuisine intestines in a courtyard. We've already seen a lot, and look forward to more. Then: share your restaurant’s details with us, and you’re good to go. We’ll collect the information and share it with the eager restaurant-goers! And be sure to share the big news in your own networks. If you want to include your restaurant in the collective listings, please enroll for the next Restaurant Day at: http://tinyurl.com/ravintolapaiva-19-11-2011 Have a wonderful Restaurant Day! Olli Sirén Executive Director [email protected] Representatives of media please contact: Timo Santala Director of communications and marketing [email protected] If you want to put up your own restaurant please contact Antti Tuomola Restaurant Officer [email protected]

the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, the University of Amsterdam, the Appel arts centre, W139, the Stedelijk Museum Bureau Amsterdam and Metropolis M are presenting the lectures and series of debates, Facing Forward: Art & Theory from a Future Perspective, in collaboration with partner institutes, including the Rijksakademie voor Beeldende Kunsten (National Academy for Visual Arts) and the Goethe Institute.
Lezingen over toekomst van kunst. Elke lezing heeft een ander thema. Het lijkt mij wel interessant om naar toe te gaan. Iemand anders ook zin?

Again, for the ones who have been interested in my previous post, come and see 'The Grand Domestic Revolution - User's Manual'!
-------------------------------
INTRODUCTION
In October 2009 Casco initiated ‘The Grand Domestic Revolution – User’s Manual’ (GDR) in response to an invitation from ‘Utrecht Manifest: Biennial for Social Design’ to develop a project that would question and challenge the very notion of social design. With the aim of re-articulating and exercising notions of the social, the public and the commons, and departing from the grounds of the domestic sphere, GDR evolved into a long-term research platform and residency exploring the urgent domestic concerns of today and the potential transformative ways to engage them. Inspired by the late nineteenth-century American “material feminist” movement which brought about what architectural historian Dolores Hayden later referred to as “the grand domestic revolution” by the communalising of kitchens, nurseries and housing, GDR focuses on the question of what difference a changed domestic sphere could bring to towns, cities and society at large today.
After two years of “living research” residencies, home productions, town meetings and affinity actions, GDR opens up in an extensive exhibition to share the resulting proposals and paradoxes for a grand domestic revolution today. Casco invites all those who have a stake in transforming the conditions and status of the domestic sphere to challenge current divisions between our private and public spaces and to build new forms of living and working in common.

For the ones who are interested in the last post I made about Slavoj Zizeks idea's on architecture and antagonism, there is also a nice text of David Harvey, 'The Right to the City'. It's about the development of our city and the rise of contemporary capitalism (since 1850) and how this system always ends up in a crisis (as we are in now).

Slavoj Zizek - 'Architecture and Aesthetics'
I don't know who uploaded the link to Slavoj Zizek and why, but I've got another interesting lecture of him: Slavoj Zizek on Architecture and Aesthetics.
It's about how late capitalism co-opts the social antagonism in the architectual form of an inside and an outside. As an example for this incorparation of class struggle by late capitalism Zizeks takes the theater venue where contradictions like openness and enclosement; high art and low art ect. are combined.
This lecture is also availlable as an essay on: http://www.lacan.com/essays/?page_id=218.

blogorganisation
Good question Sarah.
I think we should all think about this. Personally I would find it interesting to start with posting whatever we want so a dialogue can come up (and/ or a problem ofcourse).
And beside of taging all our comments, maybe we should also provide each other a sort summary of the link, video, etc. we are posting. So we can create discussion.

Manifesto
I like the manifesto. There's also this book called 'eenenveertig brieven aan een jonge kunstenaar' with advices and kind-of manifesto's for artists, kunstkelder has it, some of the letters in it are nice.
Great performance by Gabbi Colette, Milos.

Alicia Framis, about critics on institutional art. Her project 'lost astronaut' is also quite brilliant.
