ACTIVITY NOTICE.

after some consideration, i’ve decided that i may return to karl. he’s one of my more stable muses and i feel more comfortable on his blog. with that said, my activity here will be low / sporadic as i start classes again soon, and i’m trying not to stress myself out to the point where i just end up leaving again.

i’m probably going to clean up the blog some / update my pinned post and doc.

i think i need to go on hiatus for a while. ( technically i already am on hiatus, but figured i'd let you know instead of dropping off the face of the earth for months again. ) it's become hard to focus on my blogs without my anxiety deciding to ruin any muse / energy i have, on top of school. i feel like i'm pressuring myself to be here, and i can't do that to myself. it isn't healthy.

i'll come back when i don't feel so stressed out, whenever that is. if you don't already have my discord and want to chat feel free to dm me and ask for it.

reblogging to add a few things:

for most people, even other supernaturals, it’s going to be very hard to tell that karl is a witch. there’s not really a specific indicator to look for to tell that someone is a witch, not the same way as it is with vampires or werewolves where they can be identified by scent. witches are, from a biological standpoint, human, so the only things that set the two apart are their abilities ( which karl usually prefers to keep secret, for multiple reasons. ) josef of course didn’t consider this when wondering whether or not to tell karl about lena, but to be fair that was years ago and he was worried for his son’s safety.

other witches can tell that karl is one, but only if they’re actively looking. this is partly because he hasn’t grown into his full potential yet, and is still repressing some of his powers. he doesn’t want to be found out. 

the reason for that is because a part of him blames himself for his mother’s death. it’s difficult for him to properly acknowledge this. besides his usual reluctance to actually talk about his feelings, he never really knew her and doesn’t understand why it hurts him. it shouldn’t hurt him. he has no attachment to her. but it does hurt, and he’s not entirely ready to confront that yet.

some notes about karl’s abilities: he has the potential to be more powerful than full-blooded witches because of his status as a hybrid ( according to the books’ canon, witches who are also related to another supernatural race are stated to be stronger spell-casters than those with one human parent ). thing is, while he’s got the raw power in spades, he lacks precision and control over a lot of it, and he’s also been subconsciously keeping his powers suppressed for nearly three decades. so he’s not very close to the level of strength he could potentially reach, and won’t be for a while. he does not have a proper teacher ( at the moment ) nor does he know of others who share his specific predicament. this leaves him feeling isolated, even from the pack ( even as he learns to trust them more ) because he is not like them.

the only abilities he knows he has at least minor control of are telekinesis and pyrokinesis. his premonitions are not consciously controlled and can happen at random.

telekinesis is easy enough to control as long as he doesn’t allow his emotions to get the better of him. he can move smaller objects with minimal effort, and larger ones with a little more. though he doesn’t necessarily need to, he’ll sometimes make hand gestures if he wants to direct his power at something specific.

pyrokinesis is a little different.

fire is an element heavily tied to karl as a person, even without his abilities. of the four classical elements, it’s the one he matches most in terms of personality. it’s also the element of his zodiac sign, aries. he’s already very closely attuned to it and his powers only strengthen that, which is why it’s one of the easier abilities for him to control. tapping into it is usually very instinctive ( think: similar to c.arrie w.hite ‘flexing’ when using her telekinesis. )

Karl had been acutely aware of the other from the moment he happened to catch her scent in the passing breeze. There was no mistaking it, and the second he caught a glimpse of crimson eyes he knew for sure. He felt a growl rising in the back of his throat as he shifted to a defensive stance, ready to run at the first sign of attack. His wolf wasn’t happy with that approach, of course; it never was.

Looking at the woman as she approached was a bit like looking in a mirror. She looked just as on edge as he felt. When she spoke, the growl in his throat died down a bit. He wasn’t trusting her, not by a long shot -- he’d made sure to overcome that naïveté long ago before it got him killed, and he wasn’t about to let it do so now. “And how do I know you won’t sink your fangs into my neck as soon as I turn my back? Your kind isn’t exactly the trustworthy type.”

...so my hand slipped and i made some ( simple, all i did was change the eye color ) edits of vampire!karl. putting them under the cut since they’re large images. tw for scopophobia / eye contact, just in case.

he doesn’t have gold eyes in the verse, i just wanted to see how he’d look with them.
