Just a Year: Foreign Kids Eye HCs

Damien will be added at some point.
I am in the process of making these for the other groups but it will take time. This is my first time working with digital art so there will be a lot of experimenting for this collection. Let me know what you think of them!

First Fic: Just a Year

Welcome to my first fanfiction on Ao3. Tags are subjected to change as the fic goes on. There will be headcannons and other information surrounding this (and other fics) on this blog that will give more insight on the writing.
I know the first chapter is a little lackluster so feel free to skip it! or just read it here under the cut! This is a new writing style that I'm trying out so bare with me.
This fanfic is loosely biased off of my own emotional experience during my move senior year in high school. Meaning that there will be depictions of detailed mental illnesses, I will make sure to TW these chapters. The reader's family is completely made up and hold no resemblance to my own.
Two days, that was how long the drive to Colorado was from Alabama; well technically it was about 23 hours with no stops but nobody in the family was willing to drive for that long with no breaks. I was the one driving when we passed the "South Park" sign, my Dad made a comment before calling Ginny.
"Hey, we made it to the town. So the plan is that we'll go ahead to the house to start moving everything in, then when y'all get here we'll get something to eat and get some groceries." - "No, she's still adamant about staying in the basement." - "Yes, I've talked to her 'bout it but you know how stubborn she can be."
Their conversation continued until I turned into the driveway of our new house and Dad said his good-byes. I turned off the car and got out, heading to the back in order to get the luggage out. Dad made his way toward the front door, unlocking it and stepping in. By now I had most of the boxes out of the car and on the driveway. Dad came back out to help.
"Y/n aren't you excited to see what this place brings?" "Sure." The realization hasn't hit yet. "You need to sound more enthusiastic about this, it's a new place!" He joked patting me on the back.
We continued to take all the things inside the new house. Occasionally, I would spot someone passing by presumably to check out the new neighbors or on their daily walk. There were also some kids here and there, which made sense it was the weekend. Which means tomorrow was back to school for them and I had one more free day before entering a new environment. After all, according to Ginny, “They’re already missing a week, what’s one more day.”
An hour has passed and we were now presented with an empty car, each box placed in their respective room, now we wait. Ginny was about another hour out and the moving truck was to arrive in the next 30 minutes. I was laying on the living room floor, looking out the open door, Dad walked up nudging me with his boot.
"Hey, kid we have some time to kill before the truck gets here, might as well get the groceries now. I’ll drive." I look up at him, "Sure." I was tired.
I got off the floor, followed Dad and got back into the car. At least I wasn’t the one driving this time. I don’t remember this drive, or what we got, Dad pointed out a few places he wanted to check out as a family. By the time we got back the truck was there and so was Ginny with Ryder in her arms. She was conducting the movers on where everything should be placed. It was Dad’s and my job to put everything back together.
The sun was setting and we were almost finished setting up the bedrooms. I was helping Ryder with his room and Dad was putting together the master bedroom. I had my headphones on and Ryder was sitting on his bed playing.
“Half-Pint, where do you want this shelf?” “I don’ ‘no.” “Do you want me to pick?” “Nooooooooo.” I sigh, “I’m gonna put it together then we can decide where to put it, a’right?” “OK.” He went back to playing with his toys
I was assembling the final piece of furniture in Ryder’s room when Ginny knocked at the open door. Ryder jumped off the bed and made his way to her before pausing and rushed behind me. Looking up I saw two people, with fire-like hair, one was an older woman on the bigger side and the other was younger on the lengthier side. I moved my headphones but remained seated.
“These are the kids. Y/n is the new senior I was talking about.” Ginny motioned in my direction and I waved, “Ryder is just entering kindergarten," He hid his face in my back, "He's a little shy around new people. And these are our new neighbors Sheila and Kyle Broflovski. Y/n, Kyle is also a senior, isn't that neat?" "Uh... Sure?" "Oh, he could take and show you around the school tomorrow y/n. Wouldn't that be nice?" Sheila offered up her son. "Mom I take Ike to school remember." Kyle's weak attempt to get out of taking me. "Oh, it's fine bubby I'm sure she doesn't mind getting up a few extra minutes, and you could also drop off Ryder too." Ginny cuts in, "They aren't going to school tomorrow, plus I want her to learn the area so I would prefer if she took the bus. As for Ryder I was looking forward to dropping him off." "Well... he can still show her around the school on Tuesday." "Y/n what do you think?" "Huh?" "What do you think of Kyle showing you around?" Ginny tuned me in. "I think that the principal already had someone in mind for my first week, something about needing more international student representation." "Well that's unfortunate. I didn't know you were from out of the country, I thought you moved from Alabama?" Sheila was sat on Ryder's bed and Kyle started to help me with putting together the final dresser. Ginny had gone to get Dad. "We did. Mom is Scottish though and I grew up there for 10 years, give take." Dad arrived.
There was more small talk when Dad entered but I wasn’t paying full attention. Once Ryder’s room was finished I said my good-bye to the visitors and made my way down to my chosen room, the basement. This was the only big choice I had in this move, the place I would spend most of my time, the remainder of the year. There are multiple reasons why I picked the basement, I think the biggest reason was because of the lack of windows. Aside from the small rectangular window near the ceasing it was able to provide a safe place, a safe dark place. It still has not hit me that we had moved, but that's going to change once I enter that school, I can feel it. The realization will hit and I will have to hide it, but that's fine I if can last the year. I just have to ignore everything and go with the flow.
