Pre-Reboot Amy

Okay I’ve seen people express confusion over why some people take issue with Amy’s pre-reboot Archie portrayal so I’ll express my thoughts as to why.

1. Her treatment by the writers

Amy was often treated terrible by the writers of the book many potshots were taken at her in Sonic Grams they sneered at someone who simply said they liked sonamy saying “You’re like one of three people”(this is actually pretty laughable considering Amy and Sonamy are the more mainstream things from this franchise enough to get a nod in Pop Culture shows such as the Simpsons) and published anti Amy fan art in the grams too one featured a demonic looking Amy with red flaming eyes in a cage while Sonic stood outside it wearing a “Team SonSal” sash and holding a Team SonSal sign pleading with fans to “Keep Amy from getting her hands”on him. Another instance is when someone also wrote that they liked her new design after she was aged into it in Archie the writers wrote back “DONT forget it was an immature act that led to that”(I’ll get more into this later).Her Moebius counterpart Rosy the Rascal rather than being a dark mirror of her was instead just the fandoms’ misconceptions of Amy mixed into a character. To top it off in that instance Sonic was used as a mouth piece for the writers views on Amy he flat out tells her to her face he can’t tell the difference between her and Rosy as both are “Obsessive, hammer happy and can’t take a hint” tell me that’s something an in character Sonic would tell her. In an earlier instance he states “I take everything Amy says with a shaker of salt” when she’s always been one of his most moral friends and Sonic may have issues with the way she acts on her feelings but he’s always taken her seriously when need be. Amy is also shown to be a punishment for Sonic in issue 174 she’s used to torment him and Sonic refers to Sally as “Cruel” for teaming them up in 193 and from Sally’s cheeky reply it’s clear she did it to screw with him.From the way she’s talked about by the writers and the fan art used to portray her in the grams plus the way just having to spend time with her is shown to be punishment for Sonic, it’s clear the writers didn’t like her and wanted to extend that to the fandom.

2.Her age up in Archie ruined her rep

In the games Amy’s age was changed from 8 to 12 with Adventure. To stay true to this and keep her recognizable to game fans, Archie had to age Amy up. They choose to do this by having Amy wish on the Ring of Acorns to be older when the ring was meant to be used to save the sick queen not only does this make Amy look selfish but they decide to make it so she only aged PHYSICALLY not mentally meaning she was still walking around with the mind of an 8 year old adding an unsettling element to her and Sonamy(which wasn’t even needed as enough people already make a stink about the only 3 year age gap as it is).Archie also used this as reason to not like her as seen in the gram answer I mentioned earlier which is ironic considering this is something they made up and not something canon Amy did they essentially made up a reason for readers to be sour on her.

So yeah I feel these are the main reasons why I feel some Amy fans take issue with her pre-reboot counterpart.

Sonic 1

Can I just say the first Sonics Special Stages have always stood out to me? Between the weird music compared to the more upbeat ones in later games and the mind screw background with the birds that warp into fish they definitely come across as one of the more bizarre special stages.

Yeah I read that profile and it’s quite a mess what really got me was the part that said “I’m sure Sonic regrets saving her at this point��� or something on that level regardless of if you like Amy or not she’s canonically one of Sonics closest friends and he cares very much about her. Feel free to dislike Amy all you want but I wish her more extreme detractors would stop projecting their dislike onto Sonic himself.

Yay. I am so satisfied right now. I made some updates of the character profiles on Concept Mobius, something that has been overdue. I really enjoy inserting all of the knowledge I’ve sequestered from JP sources through translation. I even managed to add quite a bit to Bark’s profile. And Shadow’s and Knuckles’ design process areas.

Darkspine’s inclusion in Speed Battle got me in the mood to replay SATSR and can I say I love the fact that he’s a Super Form born out Rage Sadness and Hatred yet still didn’t change too much or become “Edgy”. It helped show those emotions aren’t inherently bad and can be channeled for good

Interestingly Knuckles(and Shadow) were allegedly rumored to appear in Unleashed wonder if they felt between introducing Chip and Tails and Amy there was no space or if they felt Knuckles gameplay would be too similar to the Werehog’s.

Important notes from the latest Tails Tube:

Knuckles immediately asking with intensity if Tails is in danger. Homie sounded like he was fixing to jump off Angel Island and glide to wherever Tails was to protect him.

Sonic Adventure, Tikal, and the Echidna Clan are all still canon. This really shouldn't need to be clarified, but you know how some people are out there.

The Master Emerald NEUTRALIZES the power of the Chaos Emeralds. Knuckles doesn't know or care about what else it's capable of besides that.

Knuckles is more than comfortable with leaving Angel Island to help Sonic save the world. He frames this as Sonic not being able to handle it on his own. (Interesting to look back on Sonic Unleashed with that context.)

Knuckles thinks of Angel Island as a Paradise.

Late reply but it was issue 172 Archie Sonic truly had one hell of a nasty streak

I like to think that there is so much Sonamy in Frontiers because Sega messes up making the relaciones between the hedgehogs clear. Kind of like...Sega: "Alright, it's time to make t-shirts of our official ship and... *see people shipping Sonic with everyone and saying that he hates Amy because of the western location and the old comics*...holy shit...we're going to have to make a sonamy game to fix this mess... right?"

If Frontiers is their apology for that horrible scene of Sonic holding Amy's face away in Generations, or for that line of Sonic joking about having to think if it's worth saving Amy's life in SA2, I'll gladly accept it lmao

I know this is old but I just came across some scans from 200 today and yeah having Sonic’s two most ride or dies (Tails and Amy) be shooed away like two stupid kids so Sally could have a “grown up” conversation with him was nasty those two love Sonic so much and it sucks how often they were shown as ignorant children to elevate Sally
