disturbed by how little ppl acknowledge the secondary health risks of vampire bites. if your vampire lover is drinking your blood you MUST be up to date on your tetanus shot. puncture wounds are at especially high risk for tetanus infections. just because your partner was born in 1312 doesn’t mean you have to die like it.

moreover they should be prepping the bite point with an alcohol wipe.

and while I’m at it, I’ve noticed a blithe disregard for health & safety when it comes to blood pacts. can’t believe I have to say this but you should absolutely NOT be cutting your palm open with the pocket knife from your belt holster (??????)

if you’re expecting to be in a blood pact/oath situation please just pick up some sterile finger lancets from the pharmacy. cannot stress this all enough.

ranking the best things I have heard surgeons say mid-surgery:

1. "Five second rule!" while scrubbed, after dropping a sterile scalpel on the floor (no they did NOT pick it up again but I swear everyone's buttholes puckered)

2. (spoken during the closing of a particularly long and difficult case) "Nurse - my tunes." :heavy metal starts blasting:

3. Gently to a fretful patient, pre-anaesthesia: "It's going to be okay. I promise, I've dealt with worse." As soon as the patient is unconscious: "This is literally the worst thing I've ever seen."

4. [okay this one was a med student] "Wowwww, that's so gross!!" Reg: "Please remember that [patient] is awake for this procedure." Student to patient: "Oh my god. I am so sorry, that was really unprofessional - " Patient, cheerfully, also engrossed with what's happening inside them on the screen: "Nah - it's, like, super gross, right?"

5. [another procedure where the patient couldn't be put under GA] Patient: *starts singing country roads midway through the procedure* Surgeon: *shrugs and joins in with surprisingly good harmony*

I'm reading: The Sixth Shadow by @thinknicht I actually did a small drawing/gif inspired in the description of one of the scenes for this one. I kinda started reading it on a dare, but it is a different take from most things I've read (and I am a sucker for time travel fics)

Ouroboros by @spicychestnut This one seems to be on hiatus, so I'm not sure if I should be sharing it at all, but it has me checking weekly for updates even after all this time. If you are ok with giving authors time, I really recommend it!

The Ballad of Hound and Spider by @tipsyraconteur Fantastic, amazing. AU. I love it. I am so sad it only has 9 chapters left for the story to be over. It has been a ride. Totally recommend it if you haven't read it yet.

Unholy & The Sweetest Submission by @fallenalien Queen of AUs imo. Deffo recommend if you are a patient reader, as the author has several projects at the same time and the updates can take some time in between.

Roots Run Deep by Vulpecula_et_Anser This one is a platonic fanfic. Kakashi and Sakura do not end up together, but their student/teacher relationship is overwritten to a point that I find very compelling and interesting dynamic. I wouldn't ship them in this universe the author proposes obviously, but I believe the work deserves more recognition, so here's me doing god's work!

Man Next Door by @unclehorse1993 I am not sure if the author posted an English version for this one, so I'm reading it with google translate aiding me. I literally just started it on Monday, so I'm only on chapter 3 or 4.

I’m noticing an increase in new fic writers on AO3 who…uh…mayy not know how to format their fics correctly..so here is a quick and VERY important tip

Using a random fic of mine as example..

Idk how many times I’ve read a good fic summary and been so excited to read before clicking on it and being met with an ugly wall of text. When I see a huge text brick with zero full line breaks my eyes blur and I just siiiigh bc either I click out immediately or I grin and bear it…it’s insufferable!

If a new character speaks, you need a line break. If you notice a paragraph is becoming too large, go ahead and make a line break and/or maybe reconfigure the paragraph to flow better. I’m not a pro writer or even a huge fic writer but…please…ty…

Reminder to self to use this as a prompt

taking off a mask to reveal what lies beneath as a romantic gesture is overdone, and besides i want to see the romantic or even platonic potential of protecting someone's identity beneath the mask, without any expectation of ever being allowed to see what's under it. picking it up and holding it gently to their face when it's knocked off and they're in danger of being exposed, without trying to catch a glimpse of what they "really" look like under there. throwing yourself in front of them to hide them from view while they put themselves back together without taking advantage or looking back to see what you're protecting. learning to read them by body language, tone of voice, and behaviour so well that you never need to see their face to feel like you know and understand them.
