Vintages of Champagne (according to Thierry Theise)
Fall 2013
2009: clunky but cheerful. yellowfins, ripe & strong
2008: super lovable. floral high-acid year. resembles killer 2002
2007: barely ripe, not great longevity
2005: undisciplined power. soapy, PB-like. strong fruit. weird potato rot thing.
2004: super green notes. balsam, wintergreen, spearmint, chartreuse, tarragon, lime zest. fetching
2003: tiny yields. atypical
2002: “The Great One”. potentially a classic
2000: aging fast
1999: beauty
1998: snappy acid
97 decent
96 finito, but conundrum
