Still can’t figure out why I’m supposed to gaf about Roger, or why Brianna should either. I remember being a tween and for the life of me not understanding why, when  my parents could choose to watch anything they wanted, they would faithfully tune into Masterpiece Theater. I was sure that when my TV choices were my own, there would be no PBS on my roster, and I definitely rolled my eyes and told them so.

I can’t stop watching this. I think I’d find it equally fascinating (if not as entertaining) if it didn’t involve the Mets, because I’ve been a fan of this game my entire life and cannot recall another time I’ve had such a close view of the way umpires talk to and with players and managers in a game, much less in a heated situation like this one. I feel like I learned something new about this game today, which is not something I’ve been able to say for a long, long time.

There are aspects of other people’s experience you cannot understand and should not judge, particularly when you don’t share their experience. The celebration of queer sex represented by that dildo is meaningful to people who have lived, until this show, without representation of the real, messy, beautiful sex they have in their lives. I say this gently and with respect: perhaps if it doesn’t make sense to you, it wasn’t meant for you.

I think it’s because it got cancelled and everyone just assumed that it was because it had gay characters instead of the budget problems associated with shooting everything on location instead of a studio. So it’s like “here’s a slap in the face for being homophobic” when the actual reason was because it was too expensive for having a smaller audience

I mean like I get why it got cancelled; supposedly it was costing $9 million an episode, and for the numbers it was getting there wasn’t any justification for continuing it. It was an expensive risk to begin with. I get why LGBT fans were mad about it being cancelled too because that was like THEIR show by other LGBT creators that was on a major streaming service and getting positive press so it getting cancelled was…well, yeah I get it felt like a slap in the face.

My main point though, was that I thought it was really weird that fans seemed to think that the last shot of the show, a rainbow-colored dildo, was somehow inspiring and continued proof that everyone should watch the show. Which…uh…

It’s a dildo.

Like I realize I’m saying this without the context of having watched the show, but I also don’t need to say that it’s weird. It’s not inspirational or deep, that’s just a sex toy.

I’m baffled by those posts by kids marveling that anyone over 25 would be on tumblr. they don’t offend me, they just raise all sorts of questions. like, what IS tumblr, in their eyes? and why do they think it’s so inherently youthful? do they consider it fun and silly and thus not suitable for “old people” who must eschew all fun silly things? or do they think it’s an idiotic waste of time and thus not of interest to adults with “adult interests” who spend their time seriously and substantively? 

cuz i got news either way: adulthood is just as dumb and pointless as youth was. as an adult, you will need silly, stupid shit to distract you from your suffering just as much as you did before - probably more so! if you think you’ll magically turn into a serious person who has their shit together and isn’t amused by inanities, think again. you’ll still laugh at dumb memes when you’re 40, i’m sorry to tell you. this is it - for better or worse, adult-you will still be you.
