If there’s one thing that annoys me, it’s when things are thrown away because one tiny part has gone wrong with them that could easily be fixed.
These headphones broke, snapped across the arch where it met the band. This rendered them useless as headphones. With the application of a 3D-printed part and precisely one metric ****tonne of epoxy resin, they are now fixed.
This means I can continue to use them, which means I don't have to buy new ones, which means I save money, but more importantly it means another pair of headphones don't need to be shipped halfway around the world, it means another pair of headphones don't need to be made, it means the raw materials to make another pair of headphones don't need to be extracted from the earth.
It also means that this pair of headphones can continue to serve their purpose. It means I didn't have to discard them when 99% of them were still functional. It means all the materials, all the energy that went into making and shipping them weren't dropped into a hole in the ground (bar what could be salvaged from them as e-waste) to be forgotten about but where they would remain for generations to come. It means these headphones continue to be headphones, and not waste.
It’s a tiny thing, but it has a massive effect. We should fix more things.

I rendered some enclosures onto an Auckland pole for NEC. Welcome to the real world of Industrial Design.
(P.S I am actually doing some useful stuff with them too. Stay tuned, I will post stuff when it comes available)
