as i grow older and age in fandom especially, i have waning patience for 2012 style fandom wars. i don't have time for the type of person who goes "why is this the 2nd top ship on ao3 when it bugs me", i don't have the energy to be friends with people who go "i specifically expressed dislike for this ship and people still write it?" and i have absolutely no time for someone who goes "this very personal trauma i have projected onto this random character and ship should be recognized and agreed by everyone else, otherwise they're bad people"

Thats an interesting take and not one I’d ever considered. However, I personally don’t think that’s the case. I think Snow had Cinna attacked and killed purely because he designed the mockingjay dress. Not only that, but after Snow specifically requested Katniss wear her wedding dress to, presumably, humiliate her… Cinna has that literally burst into flames to reveal a mockingjay? The very symbol of the revolution? And it already was at that point, as seen by the graffiti on the walls as they approached district 11 on the victory tour. It was a huge fuck you to Snow. Cinna made very clear who his allegiance was to with that statement, and he knew he would be punished for it. He knew he would likely be killed as a result. Being able to time that punishment to throw Katniss off at the very worst possible moment, ie right before going into the arena and the blood bath at the cornucopia, was just a bonus for Snow. The other tributes looking so shaken as well is probably just a ‘fuck it’s actually happening. We are actually in the arena again’ kinda thing.

The moment just before Katniss enters the arena, the peacekeepers attack and presumably kill the stylist Cinna.

When Katniss is lifting into the starting platform. She is clearly distraught. But in the background, the other Victors/Tributes also look shaken.

It was mentioned by Haymitch earlier, the other Victors/Tributes were upset about the Quarter Quell reaping. All the tributes were trying to sabotage the Games to make it stop.

As the book explains, tributes grow close to their stylists.

Does that mean President Snow didn’t just order Cinna’s attack But Snow had all the tributes’ stylists killed in front of them once they were trapped in their tubes to punish them for their defiance.
