I'm trying to ditch the poetry. It makes falling in love so hard.
Getting up each day and grinding at the machine is easy when you have an elaborate imagination to escape in to. Everything is plush and so so easy when there's a bandaid or compartment for every uncomfortable thought or feeling. I've thought my way through so many scenes and grasped on to every last torrid detail.
Lately I'm just tired of being alone and so full of hopeful lies. I want to wake up. But really wake up this time. No false awakenings.

The Art of Disappearing by Naomi Shihab Nye
When they say Don’t I know you? say no. When they invite you to the party remember what parties are like before answering. Someone telling you in a loud voice they once wrote a poem. Greasy sausage balls on a paper plate. Then reply. If they say We should get together say why? It’s not that you don’t love them anymore. You’re trying to remember something too important to forget. Trees. The monastery bell at twilight. Tell them you have a new project. It will never be finished. When someone recognizes you in a grocery store nod briefly and become a cabbage. When someone you haven’t seen in ten years appears at the door, don’t start singing him all your new songs. You will never catch up. Walk around feeling like a leaf. Know you could tumble any second. Then decide what to do with your time. (Words Under the Words: Selected Poems, Naomi Shihab Nye)

“When the mind is free of all of its content, all of its conditioned thinking, it enters into the solitude of silence. That silence can only arise when one sees the limitations of one’s thinking. When one sees that his or her thoughts will not bring truth, peace, or freedom, there arises a natural state of silence and inner clarity. And in that silence there is a profound solitude, because one is not seeking a more advantageous relationship with thought or with the accompanying emotions that are derived by thought.”

The unique and shared struggles we are going through as humanity right now have broken my heart. I read the news, I listen to the protestors, I hear from my loved ones what they're going through. Our thoughts and opinions have divided us and our suffering has brought us together. I am trying to step down from my thoughts and opinions for a bit and just let myself feel with my heart. Just be open hearted and non judgemental. I don't know where it will take me but the thoughts and opinions haven't been dangerous so I know this is a safe place to rest.
