being doomed by the narrative is cool and all but i like when a character is doomed just by being a fucking idiot. sorry that happened to you but it is entirely your own fault and you could have just chosen to not do all that
#half of Murough’s life is horrible stuff out of his control#the other half is entirely his fault and completely deserved#oc: murough mcbride

I know that some British people take umbrage at Americans calling the Great British Bake Off relaxing, but it's just because GBBO is such a different kind of stressful from American baking shows.
American baking shows will be called something like "Cupcake Knife Fight", there's horror movie lighting everywhere and dramatic stings every 5 seconds. All of the contestants are shit talking each other and fist fighting over the one single deep fryer provided by production. It will show the judges all whispering to each other at their super villain table overlooking the whole kitchen, and one will be like, "Oh my god. Everyone look at Brenda right now. She's straight tanking it." And it will cut to Brenda, who is running around covered in flour and crying and also bleeding for some reason. Then you get a clip from an interview with one of the contestants, and they're like, "I really need to win this. Without this award money, I'm gonna need to close my restaurant, sell my dad, and live out of my car. AGAIN." Then the giant digital doomsday clock overhead lets out a horrid klaxon, the judges tell half of them that their cupcakes taste disgusting, and one of them gets eliminated and sent to walk down the dramatically-lit shame hallway never to be seen again.
Meanwhile GBBO is in a lovely, brightly colored tent, there are delightful and friendly hosts/jesters there to keep everyone entertained, and all of the B Roll is of like... a bumblebee going into a flower, or a lamb running in a field. And yes, there will be moments where someone will mess up their timing or something, and they'll be looking at their bake through the oven door like, "oh gosh I don't think this will rise in time!" Then they stand up to find Paul Hollywood directly behind them ominously. His creepy whitewalker eyes will glow white, and he'll say something like "the 12th of June. 2035. Drowning." And his eyes will go back to normal and he'll walk away. Then the baker gives a playful grimace to the camera and says "that didnt sound great, did it?". Cut to a sweet looking older woman sipping tea on a stool and she says "oo I do hope that Prue enjoys the taste of my sugary, sticky baps!". Then, at the end, someone gets a gold star for doing good, and the loser of the episode gets in the middle of a giant group hug. You see all of them at the end of the series at a giant carnival with their families and the post credits informs you that all of the contestants have become a Partridge Family-style traveling band and stayed friends forever.

Oh hang on, Art was stalking Murderbot on the station before they even met, and then herded it to the transport.
An old feed showing Murderbot happens to play while it's watching the news, freaking it out and pushing it to find a way off station asap.
Murderbot starts towards another transport area and an automated traffic accident happens to cut it off.
It starts walking in Art's direction, and then Art shows up on the shipping list as being conveniently empty of people and leaving very, very soon.
When they get more comfortable Art starts showing Murderbot how it doesn't move like a 'human', revealing how Art spotted it in the first place.
Then, spoiler for later books, it seems like Art and the university already had an interest in sec-units before meeting Murderbot.
Gods I love an unreliable narrator that shows you enough pieces to put things together

Note
would doors lose his identity and be full feral if he ever went full creature like in that cool drawing?
yup! it would be the end of his self
unfortunately such a fate is inevitable, but it's still a long long ways off (although the signs are starting to show)
and well it was real fun to draw and design

I came up with this three-way table to help me (and now you, if you want) to rate things out of 5 stars. I was thinking of books and films when I made it, but you can probably use it for other stuff.
The idea is that you rate the thing on how much stuff you loved and how much stuff you hated, and those things weight against each other. There's only one way to get 5 stars or 1 star, so those should end up as the rarest ratings, wtih 3 stars being the most common.
'Spicy' means that the thing inspires emotion, whether positive or negative, while 'bland' means it doesn't affect you much either way.
An example of a 3-star (spicy) - for me personally - would be the Twilight series, because there's plenty of garbage in there but also some things that are like crack to me. I can't think of an example of a 3 star (bland) because by nature they don't stick in the mind.
(This also assumes giving 0 stars isn't allowed. That'd throw it out of whack...)

I’m watching the Zeta Gundam dub, and I’ve been hesitant to look up character’s names in order to avoid getting spoiled on stuff… but Kacricon? I’m supposed to intuit that that’s how it’s meant to be spelled??? Madness.

Madoka Magica Ep 1:
Wish I could know what it’s like going into Madoka Magica blind, but it’s been years, and I already tried watching it when I was a kid. Though I quit because I thought it was too slow and sad. I’ve been revisiting shows I couldn’t finish as a kid, and I’ve generally found myself liking them more as an adult. So I have some decently high hopes for Madoka Magica.
Atmosphere:
I really adore the surreal, and ominously framed architecture, and alongside the harsh lighting it makes even the “normal” world scenes feel odd and dream like.
Madoka:
She seems like a pleasant and sweet girl, the way she’s animated is really adorable!
Homura:
I’m honestly partially watching the show for her, I’ve heard she’s pretty fascinating. So far I’ve enjoyed her distant, yet obviously overly invested behavior. The way she seems to be almost holding herself back when she talks to Madoka. Especially in the scene where Madoka protects Kyubei, the cuts between them and the chains seem to signify the way she’s bound together/trapped by her devotion to Madoka. Or at least that’s what I’m extrapolating from cultural osmosis.
Witches:
There hasn’t been much of them so far, but what screen time they have had is amazing! I love mixed media/collage styles!
#shows#madoka magica#I’m gonna try my hardest to write about these episodes like I don’t know what’s coming#also I don’t have many opinions on Sayaka yet#she’s nice

I initially just wanted Eternal Sugar so she could be on my poison team. But now that I have awakened Hollyberry, I was like “oh it’d be fun to have a steal team for her” and I also got attached to Wildberry, and now I somehow have a team for both of them kinda on accident… anyway one of the teams is accidentally kinda lesbian pride colored
