                   A  LAUGH ,  BRIEF  AND  HUMORLESS ,  huffs  out  of  him  at  that .  of  course  he  means  it ;  that  much  was  never  in  question .  he’s  never  anything  less  than  genuine ,  which  makes  it  all  the  worse .  the  shove  succeeds  in  pushing  loki  backward ,  feet  shuffling  in  effort  to  stay  upright .    ❛    YOU’RE  A  SENTIMENTAL  FOOL ,  THOR .    ❜    thor  would  say  those  self-same  words  and  mean  them  just  as  acutely  to  any  of  his  friends ;  to  brunnhilde ,  to  bruce ,  to  that  kronan  he  met  on  sakaar ,  probably  even  the  archer  or  the  tree  or  the  one  thor  calls  rabbit .    ❛    there’s  a  midgardian  proverb  about  lighting  oneself  on  fire  to  keep  another  warm .    ❜

                   BREATH  CATCHES  IN  HIS  THROAT ,  but  only  for  a  moment ,  and  whether  due  to  the  press  of  sharp  metal ,  the  shock  of  e l e c t r i c i t y  against  his  skin ,  or  the  very  words  thor  speaks .  it’s  utter  nonsense  —————  FROM  THE  PITS  OF  HEL !  did  thor  have  so  hard  of  a  time  moving  on  after  he  'died’ ?  he  certainly  didn’t  see  THOR  attempting  to  erect  any  statues  or  putting  on  plays  in  his  honor .  (  there  was  the  tattoo ,  he  supposed ,  but  he  really  would  have  preferred  a  statue .  )

❛    is  that  what  you  say  to  ALL  the  girls ,  brother ?    ❜    despite  his  words ,  there  is  little  humor  in  his  tone ,  however ,  and  loki  slaps  the  sword  away .

 brows  furrow  and  uncertainty  flickers  in  his  gaze  at  the  way  loki's  breath  catches  under  his  blade.  he  almost  pulls  back  before  loki  tosses  another  quip  at  him,  batting  his  sword  away.  he  spins  with  the  movement,  taking  a  step  forward  and  burying  his  shoulder  in  loki's  chest.  the  shove  is  just  enough  to  push  loki  off  balance,  though  not  enough  to  send  him  sprawling  to  the  ground.  

❛  only  the  pretty  ones.  ❜  he  means  it  to  come  out  in  the  same  teasing  tone  as  before  but  there's  something  serious  behind  the  words.  he  would.  no  matter  what  loki  thinks  of  him,  he  will  go  to  the  ends  of  the  universe  to  find  him.

                   EYES  WATCH  THE  SWORD  SPIN  IN  CIRCLES  AROUND  HIS  BROTHER ,  not  as  threatening  as  mjolnir  by  half .  loki  is  hardly  afraid  of  a  common  blade ,  after  all .    ❛    given  that  your  way  with  words  is  clumsy  at  best ,  i  suspect  it  would  be  less  painful  to  just  let  you  impale  me  and  get  it  over  with .    ❜    SARCASM  drips  from  each  word .

 thor  snorts,  stops  spinning  his  blade  to  point  it  at  his  brother,  letting  little  ripples  of  lightning  spark  dangerously  down  the  blade.  ❛  you'd  like  that,  wouldn't  you,  brother??  ❜

                   ❛    OH ,  NATURALLY .  he  has  nothing  of  value  to  say  and  so  he  resorts  to  violence .    ❜    he’s  fairly  certain  thor  won’t  ACTUALLY  do  it  ——————  not  that  that  would  stop  him  from  testing  the  theory .  provoking  thor  is  a  game ,  and  the  moment  thor  loses  his  temper ,  it  means  LOKI  HAS  WON .

HE  REMEMBERS  NOT  HOW  LONG  HE’S  BEEN  SEQUESTERED  IN  THIS  CELL  ,  how  long  he’s  been  trapped  like  a  prisoner  in  the  place  he’d  once  called  home  .  it’s  a  fitting  fate  for  him  ,  in  a  twisted  sort  of  way  .  HE  WAS  NEVER  ODIN’S  SON  ,  only  ever  a  weapon  .  a  captive  .  a  prisoner  .  a  tool  ,  meant  to  be  used  against  his  own  people  .  whether  he  waits  in  a  prison  cell  or  a  gilded  tower  ,  a  prison  is  still  a  prison  .

he  leans  back  against  the  wall  ,  gaze  locked  on  the  ceiling  above  him  .  rivulets  of  water  drip  along  the  wall  ,  rhythmically  plopping  onto  the  ground  in  front  of  him  .  weeks  ,  he  thinks  ,  since  the  man  he’d  once  called  father  locked  him  away  .  perhaps  longer  .  locked  him  away  like  he  did  all  of  his  other  mistakes  .

in  the  silence  of  the  dungeon  ,  he  hears  the  air  in  front  of  him  CRACK  ,  almost  like  thunder  ,  like  ——

❛  THOR  .  ❜  he  scowls  ,  chin  dropping  until  his  gaze  meets  his  brother’s  .  he  looks  DIFFERENT  ,  somehow  ,  though  loki  cannot  place  what  has  changed  .  ❛  what  is  it  that  you  want  ?  come  to  GLOAT  again  ?  or  perhaps  you’ve  simply  come  to  force  your  PITY  upon  me  again  ?  if  so  ,  i’ve  no  interest  .  ❜

he  leans  forward  ,  lips  pulling  back  to  bare  his  teeth  in  a  brittle  ,  menacing  grin  .  

❛  LEAVE  .  ❜

 it  is  not  that  he  doesn't  expect  the  bitterness  from  loki,  the  desolate  anger  in  his  brother's  gaze.  but  after  the  years,  after  asgard  and  thanos--  it  causes  a  harsh  twist  in  his  chest,  a  falter  in  his  step.  blue  eyes  meet  green  (  eyes!!  )  and  some  of  the  excitement  bleeds  from  his  expression.  

 ❛  loki,  ❜  he  steps  forward,  passing  through  the  shimmering  field  as  if  it  isn't  even  there.  ❛  i  know  you  will  not  believe  what  i  say.  i  can  hardly  believe  it  myself.  but  i  do  require  your  trust;  though  i  have  done  naught  to  earn  it  of  late.  ❜  he  extends  his  hand,  palm  up,  showing  loki  the  rough-hewn  green  stone.  stolen  in  a  desperate  bid  to  fix  everything,  to  change  time  itself.
