Hey, I'm Thyla! I've been meaning to create a tumblr for years, and finally got around to it after the Great Muskification. I post mostly fandom + queer stuff. I'm queer and nonbinary, and my pronouns are they/them, ze/hir, xe/xem, and ey/em.

Some of you haven’t fully unpacked the Gender Traitor view of trans men and transmascs and it shows.
You may not be calling us gender traitors outright but then you act as if we’re uniquely more likely to be misogynistic (including transmisogynistic or lesbophobic) than cis men. You imply that by transitioning we’ve escaped misogyny, as if that were the point in the first place. You’re quick to prescribe things like male entitlement to us with zero attempt to understand what might lead us to the decisions we make. You pull us aside to lecture us about how we have to watch ourselves to make sure we’re not misogynistic and how we as men have to use our male privilege to protect women (hey, why do you think the women need the men to protect them like that? It’s a bit patriarchal imo), all while never giving cis men the same spiel.
And then we’re stuck dancing around your assumption that we hate women because we’re trans men! We can’t just say we’re not women without going off about how womanhood is great even if it’s not for us, even though it’s perfectly reasonable to imagine we might have a lot of negative feelings about having been forced to live as girls and women when we aren’t women, even though the type of person who expects this out of, say, people who were raised Christian but aren’t as adults is generally someone most of us can agree is an unreasonable douche looking to convert the person back. And when anything about us makes women uncomfortable, regardless of whether it’s reasonable, we’re the ones who are supposed to accommodate you at our own expense. Trans men get forced into a separate waiting room at the gynecologist’s office because cis women “feel unsafe” about there being a man in the room. We ask to have our voices heard in the conversation surrounding abortion access and reproductive rights and we’re scolded for “making a women’s rights issue about men”. We find historical figures who show every single sign of fitting the description of trans men and cis women crawl out of the woodwork to yell at us for “erasing women from history.”
And with all this in mind, all I can think is that you just see us transitioning as a betrayal towards women. We turned our backs on the Sisterhood or whatever and now we’re the enemy. But as a trans man myself, all I’ve wanted was to just exist in peace as a man. I don’t see any gender as being some opposing force. It’s like hair color to me, just something different about everyone. It’s not my fault I was assigned the wrong gender at birth. It’s not my fault I was born with primary and secondary sex characteristics that give me gender dysphoria. It’s especially not my fault that for thousands of years women and those forcibly assigned as women were regarded as property and treated as such. And yet, somehow, it seems that I’m expected to apologize several times daily for all of this purely because I’m a trans man.
It’s so fucking infuriating. Just let me live, damnit.

Can I be controversial for a moment. I think the primary stance against AI being "what are you, fucking ret- I MEAN stupid? you can't even write an email? LMFAO do you need a robot to wipe your ass for you?" is fucking gross and really speaks to how so many of you care more about having an excuse to be Right and make fun of someone instead of the actual environmental, ethical, and workers' rights concerns around the generative ai boom

I was thinking about how I have grown to value mandatory voting over a system that allows allegedly more freedom. Because in country, mandatory voting means I just have to send in a ballot. It can be empty or filled with the write in ballot "pickle farts" if I want.
If I go to the voting station all I have to do is get my name checked off. I don't have to vote if I don't want to.
But it means it is much more difficult for the government to try and suppress voters. Because voters have a legal obligation to go to the polls, so you can't restrict them or try tactics to dissuade them.
Voting polls are open long hours with access to food and water being a fairly standard staple. You don't need any form of ID, you have to be given time to go vote in work hours without penalty if you cannot do it after work hours.
Every now and then a politician tries some small way of voter suppression but it isn't as easy. And so I have learned to appreciate it.
But when I googled, out of curiosity, if the USA had ever had anything like that I was met with a barrage of websites talking about freedom and justice and the absolute liberty of Americans. I thought an eagle was going to bust out of the screen.
Going through some of these I noticed they were think tanks connected to billionaires, one of them was funded and created by the Koch brothers.
Gotta love how often the American "freedom" is actually used as a way to further deny actual freedoms, both linguistically and politically.

Hey don't cry, okay? We just found Attenborough’s long-beaked echidna, a species thought to be extinct for the past 60 years.

Y'know, something I notice about this newest round of trans discourse is that it almost never includes nonbinary, genderqueer, or genderfluid people. And I think I know why. Because it's just another fucking binary. TMA and TME is just a new AFAB and AMAB is just a new man and woman. It's just another attempt to force people into restrictive, unnuanced binaries that deny individual experiences with oppression.

in conversations about sex education for children many people fall back on teaching children to recognize and, hopefully, report predatory behavior as the primary reason why this education is good, and obviously I don't disagree with that! when I educate my 4th-6th students, we spend a significant amount of time talking about boundaries and consent and drilling in to the kids' brains that they do NOT need to tolerate inappropriate touching or other behavior from anyone, not even adults who might try to pressure them into thinking otherwise.
BUT! but but but! I think it's also really important to remember that preparing for the worst case scenario isn't the only reason to educate kids about sexuality and their bodies! kids deserve to enter puberty understanding all of the changes they'll experience, and not just the growing and sweating. it's good for kids to understand the new desires they might start experiencing! it's good to know about intense new crushes and erections and wet dreams and sexual fantasies and masturbation! those things can be really, really scary and confusing for young people who don't have any framework to understand them, and it's really easy to feel like you're doing something dirty and inappropriate if no one has told you that sexual pleasure and curiosity is normal, healthy, and good.
good sex ed should help students feel comfortable and safe expressing their sexuality! that's crucial!

Notpla, the company which makes seaweed-based packaging to replace single-use plastics, started with its two French and Spanish founders, Pierre Paslier and Rodrigo Garcia Gonzalez, experimenting in their student kitchen while at Imperial College London.
Tumblr media
Now, Notpla has replaced more than 21 million items of single-use plastic across Europe, and is aiming to displace 1 billion units by 2030. In partnership with Just Eat, Notpla’s packaging was used at the UEFA Women’s Final at Wembley Stadium, London in 2022. From seven types of folded carton board boxes that year, it has grown into a catalogue of over 50 different designs.
Tumblr media
And the company is launching a new deli range, featuring plastic-free windows so people can see their sandwiches before buying. Honsinger hopes this will help Notpla branch out into office catering and museums, where that sneak peek is important.
