everyone except hiccup is convinced he's a lycanwing except the twins who have decided that the reason he hasnt changed is because he was always a lycanwing

the rumour spreads everywhere like viggo meats hiccup in maces and talons and his introduction is "ah so i finally get to meat the half dragon, befkre i heard of u i always thought the lycan wing was a myth"

heather comes back and her first question is "do i have to worry about hiccup going full feral dragon in the night?"

hiccup has no idea who actually belives it and who's just fucking with him

it bothers me that the general fandom consensus seems to be "heather is annoying but hey at least she's a cool fighter" (maybe not so much now but I remember people really hating her when the shows were airing)

I like that she's manipulative in riders of berk. She had to learn to be manipulative from a young age to save her family, and showing so much cunning at such a young age is honestly impressive

I like that she's flighty and has trust issues. I like that she's impulsive and deeply insecure -- it completely makes sense for her, considering the deep trauma she's endured. She was separated from her birth family, then her adoptive family (and presumably much of her village) were killed (maybe in front of her???). She's learned that relying on people only leads to pain, and it's better to choose to be alone than to have loneliness forced on you when the people you love are ripped away.

I truly think if rtte were planned for a slightly older audience, heather could have had some grim moments that would make her complexity really shine.

Tbh I think her fighting skills are actually the least interesting thing about her, and I wish combat wasn't so important for her character in rtte

what I'm trying to say is that heather's faults all make sense, and I love flawed fictional women who make bad choices <3

"average viking gets struck by lightning once" factoid actually just statistical error. average viking is never struck by lightning. Snotlout Jorgenson, who is hated by thor and has been struck by lightning fifteen times, is an outlier and should not have been counted.

I genuinely believe that Viggo is the best villain in the HTTYD universe/series. He was smart and savvy and a good character that was entertaining to watch and see the characters develop to stop him and grow impressively. He was one of the biggest challenges that the group had to face, and posed to be the biggest challenge for them, because of how long it took to take him down.

I’m not saying he was the most dangerous, but he has got to be the best, or at least my favorite villain, in the httyd universe.

can we appreciate that httyd has a physically disabled main character? i dont see it a lot outside of anime ig. and to have that in a kids movie/show is so cool. and also how toothless is the reason he lost his leg. i can go on and on

Hiccup still gets a lot of criticism for his decisions in Httyd 2, but I feel like they make sense and it's because of the tv-shows.

He doesn't want to be chief?

Well, he just spent a whole year mapping the world outside of the Archipelago, that's a lot of freedom. So of course, he doesn't know who he is now and doesn't think his father's lifestyle fits with him.

And in that year, he almost did become chief when Stoick almost died. In that scene when Spitelout is sent out specifically to bring Hiccup home to succeed his dying father, they already call him chief! This, despite Hiccup's plea towards Spitelout to not say it.

Chiefdom for Hiccup means losing his father. (Which is exactly how he ended up becoming chief, too)

He thinks he can change Drago's Mind?

Of course, he does! Alvin switched sides, Dagur switched sides, Viggo saw dragons as something more. And let's not forget Stoick and his entire village, including Astrid and his friends.

In a way, he changed Mala's mind, too.

In a way, he changed the minds of the dragons about humans.

He tries to end a war by talking to a warmonger?

Again, of course, he does. He ended their war with the dragons, fought in a war with the Outcasts, then the Berserker, then the Hunters, then the Flyers.

Of course, he thinks he's just as capable of making the most responsible calls in war when he has fought in several ever since he was 15. This, although Stoick has decades more experience and actually met Drago before.

Not to mention that all of the bloodshed was on the side of the enemy, and RttE confirms this. Hunters and Flyers are dying in those battles.

If anything, Hiccup talking to Drago first is him giving Drago a chance to save himself and his men. Something Astrid pretty much confirms when she threatens Drago that he better not lay a hand on them or Hiccup and Toothless will blow his fleet to splinters.

Which, in the tv-shows, they do. And then Drago did end up dead at the end of the movie.

Me and one of my best friends from high school called each other “jerk best friends” bc we greeted each other with what we called “violent affection” aka punching each other before giving each other a hug.

Hookfang being mean to Snotlout is just cuteness aggression. He does a very good job of not actually hurting him.

Family Ties

Hiccup and Dagur are half-brothers through Stoick

Dagur calls Hiccup his brother constantly.

Dagur and Stoick both have bright red hair and green eyes.

Dagur is several years older than Hiccup.

Dagur attempted to kill Oswald. First, he claimed that he actually did kill Oswald, and then later he said that he used Oswald’s disappearance as a chance to become chief of the Berserkers. The truth is probably in between those two claims; he wanted to kill Oswald and tried to kill him, but ultimately failed allowing Oswald to flee.

My theory:

Stoick had a relationship with a Berserker woman when she and other Berserkers were visiting. This would be under the reign of Stoick’s father over Berk and Oswald’s father over the Berserkers. The Berserker woman returned home with the rest of her tribe, ended up marrying Oswald, and Oswald decided to claim and raise her son as his own son and heir. Oswald and Stoick swore an oath not to reveal the truth of Dagur’s parentage. A few years later, Oswald and his wife had a daughter that they named Heather. A couple years later, Stoick and Valka had Hiccup. I imagine Dagur as 6-7 years older than Hiccup, and 4-5 years older than Heather. So Heather is 1-2 years older than Hiccup.

When Dagur was in his early twenties, he and Oswald got into a fight where Dagur found out the truth of his parentage. This is what made Dagur attempt to kill Oswald and develop such hatred towards Hiccup and Stoick.

In summary, Hiccup and Dagur are half-brothers through Stoick, and Dagur and Heather are half-siblings through their mother.

If/when I write fics about the Haddock family, I need to include Hiccup making awful jokes and Zephyr rolling her eyes and being embarrassed. Nuffink probably thinks the jokes are funny.

This part is both hilarious and sad. Poor Snotlout.

"the subject of our milky desires" are not words i expected to hear together but uh...yeah. interesting

I love when Snotlout complains about Hiccup putting them in danger. At the end of the day he's still going to do what Hiccup asks, but he will also definitely be annoyed the whole time.

Astrid can draw! I imagine she mostly uses her abilities for practical things like designs and diagrams. Maybe she helps Hiccup and Fishlegs with documenting dragons as well.
