kimi to idol precure: episode two review ౨ৎ⋆˚。⋆
long time no see huh? i've been out of school and back on the precure grind. with that being said, let's skip the fluff and get on with the review!
this introduction was so cute and fun! a very different take of the typical precure "my name is __, i'm a __ year student and a precure" type thing. the animation was so bouncy and fun and the bright colors got me hype like a kid would be lol.
this episode introduces us to the whole "public precure" idea and i think this is pretty cool. i love how uta gets all cocky and hyped up by the praise she gets. it's so goofy.
the direction this episode goes in was very expository which i don't hate but i found myself bored. especially when it came to the backstory that queen pikariine told. i think she's adorable and makes such a perfect queen but other than that there's not much to her or the story of kirakiland that interested me or made me care that cure idol has to save them. it's a very basic and typical of any magical girl series. it was also very vague which i can assume is just to build up suspense for the true discoveries that'll come later in the season but why share it so early if everything can't be shared? i just wish the stakes were higher or that things weren't so on the nose to make me feel anything about everyone being saved.
also loved this product placement it was very silly but uplifting in a way. i should get some fortune telling gummies . . .
(insert no comment but cute screenshot moment here)
this episode we also get to meet uta's classmates and the other cures. kokoro (kyun-kyun) and nana (wink) and another one of her classmates mikoto! kokoro being a fan of cure idol is 100% a set up for a really funny dynamic between them and i'm so excited to see whatever they'll have going on. as for mikoto, i love her so much! not only is she adorable but kind of insecure and reserved demeanor interests me. seeing her come to life when it comes to idols was so fun and i really hope she's not a "throw away" type of character. i want to see her come out of her shell.
(also the bob is fire)
we also get to meet the super talented nana who plays piano and even competes. i can tell she'll fall into the "cool blue" genre of blue cures, which is fine because i love cures like that. she seems to be easily swayed by the opinions and actions of others in the sense that she wants to fit in/feel included which i think would be very interesting to explore in her later.
overall the side characters were super fun to meet this episode and im excited to see what's in store for all of them!
what i like about this episode is that it addresses uta's skewed view of what it means to be an idol. she at first is focused on the fame and praise that comes with it, which is okay to be excited about, but she sort of misses the point that what she's doing isn't just to be all sunshine-y, but to be a light and hope for people.
i don't have much to say about this episode's fight, but nana catching it all surely is a set up lol.
this scene was so adorable and solidified cure idol's character. her drive to make people smile and be a light (i.e. the light behind her, haha i love symbolism) to the people that she influences is something admirable and relatable and i hope it's a theme that continues throughout this season. i think it touches on the reality of what being an idol truly is and how for many people, these idols represent ideas much bigger than fame and fanservice. they represent hope, prosperity, and what it means to be a happy person and i love that message! i think cure idol summed this up well by saying . . .
and this takes me to the end of episode two! overall, what i love the most was the message of this episode and establishing early on what it means to be an idol on a personal level. however, i do wish that it was explained or even elaborated a little more on what it an idol *is* in this universe. it kinda just assumes the audience already knows that being an idol on tv is a big deal without giving us a reason to believe it. if there was more of a set up for the status of idols in universe that would make uta's goals and realization much more impactful and believable. but in general, this was a fairly good episode!

kimi to idol precure: episode one review ౨ৎ⋆˚。⋆
i've finally gotten around to watching kimi to idol precure! i was so excited to see what essentially is my dream season finally come to life. i love idols and music in general and to see that come to my favorite thing ever, precure, had me so excited. sadly i've been very busy and haven't been keeping up but i'm finally buckling down and watching it and i thought blogging my thoughts here would hold me accountable for keeping up! so, let's talk about my first impressions of episode one ₊˚⊹ ᰔ
to start, what stands out to me the most is the visuals. starting the episode showing off the gorgeous cgi (which is a world's upgrade from previous seasons) was incredibly engaging. i was instantly drawn in by the bright colors and smooth but fast paced animation. and of course, our girl cure idol is looking stunning!
sakura as a character is very interesting and i haven't gotten a read on the type of pink cure "trope" she suits. she's definitely the genki type but she has a more calm and rational air about her versus other pink leads. her voice is also stunning and i love her catchphrase! kirakilala ♪ ~
as for the opening, the song is so hype and fun i immediately got excited to watch once the beat started up. because i, i, i do love precure (that's not very funny). i loved all the fast paced scenes and love how it shows off the cure's personalities
and here's some random cute screenshots . . . ♡
as for the rest of the episode, starting off with the joke of kurikyua being the precure and purirun going off with him was hilarious. but otherwise it was a bit underwhelming? it was very to the point and informational about what a precure is and didn't do much world building wise or anything to give me a reason to be interested in what's going on which isn't typical when it comes to precure. i feel like it relied more on being silly and flashy than telling the story of uta sakura and her world. hopefully things change in these next couple episodes and we get to feel more connected to this universe.
i did find the whole "we're looking for an idol named precure" misunderstanding hilarious though! and purirun draining uta's wallet and using her charm to get what she wanted showed a more devious side of her that i hope is showed off more later on.
as for the villians, i think cutty and zakkuri are so goofy and i'm sure they'll make me laugh, especially zakkuri. i'm sure he's clueless and i just know they'll do something interesting with him. chokkirinu is so gorgeous and alluring and i'm assuming there's some gut wrenching lore between her and darkiine that i'm so ready to see explored. other than that, they weren't super flashy or out there but i think that's a nice break from the villians that all get deep backstories and things.
i also just thought this was funny . . . poor ema
and now let's admire cure idol's transformation, which was so gorgeous and fluidly animated! it was a little hard for me to keep up with how fast it was though, so i wish it was slower so there's more time to soak up the beautiful moments
get into these gorgous nails . . .
and a throwback to cure happy
AND HER ADORABLE SMILE!!
and . . . pose! ☆彡
as for the ending, the song is so amazing and hype just like the opening. the bass line really sticks out and the cgi is so fluid and bouncy and wonderful quality. plus the colors and shading really sells the "idol" look. the choreo is a little lackluster though, but that's just me being nitpicky as a dancer
and that leads me to the end of my first impressions! overall, i'm excited to see where kimi to idol precure goes, especially since the first episode was a bit on the . . . dryer side? it's good that it kept me interested enough to want to know what happens next, but i'm not sure if that will keep it's momentum for these next few episodes. i'm impressed with the visuals and soundtrack and i can't wait to watch more!
