Summary:

The Department of Variance of Somewhere, Ohio is a sci-fi horror serial podcast about a shady governmental group that deals with the supernatural experiences. This could anyone of us. They aren’t just taking black, brown, and Asian, people they are grabbing white people as well. Think you’re safe because you don’t have an accent well they’re targeting Canadians who don’t sound any different than most of us.

Ordinarily ICE has no authority over American citizens but all they have to do is say you were interfering and then they can arrest you. Snatched right off the streets by masked men with guns who zip tie you, put a bag over your head, and toss you into a van before speeding away without identifying themselves to anyone. Often nobody knows you have been taken and they deny you the basic rights you are entitled to when arrested. They never identify themselves as ICE and sometimes not even as law enforcement.

They disappeared people like this during the mass protests against Trump that were sparked by the George Floyd arrest. The hundreds of people snatched had no recourse because they didn’t know who took them or where they were taken to. Once the hood comes off you’re in a dark room with a light in your face and you never see the people who interrogate you for hours at a time while threatening you and your family. Sometimes they even strip you and tie you to a chair like they do with alleged Muslim “enemy combatants” at black sites outside the U.S. Nobody stopped Bush from doing it during the Iraq and Afghanistan wars ans nobody stopped Trump from doing it during the final year of his first term.

White European tourists, and sometimes Americans, are being detained entering and exiting the country. A Canadian woman was detained for several weeks while trying to leave the country. The woman was held for weeks, denied outside contact, never told why she was detained, and had no options for recourse. Most foreign states have issued travel advisories for travel to the U.S. Tourism into the U.S. is down about 70% since Trump was sworn in according to some sources. States, cities, and tourist destinations have lost billions in revenue. Florida and Texas are actively pursuing their own illegal actions against suspected migrants and even taking actions against legitimate tourists.

Nobody is coming to save you. Being white or white passing isn’t going to protect you. ICE has proven itself above the law repeatedly and is little more than a Gestapo force for Kristi Noem of Homeland Security and her Orange Hitler. They have even arrested a local mayor (later released) and a Democratic member of Congress who they are pursuing charges against.

AO3 writers, apparently spam bots are now reaching the new low by leaving negative comments on authors' works (that are most likely copied and pasted, mass posted on random fics), meant to discourage and make authors delete their works. Holy shit.

Writers, if you receive mean/rude/negative comments on your fics, please always know that — with the new wave of bots — there are high chances of these comments being spam meant to try to get you to delete your works (so far, the only reason I can think of as to why they want writers to delete their works off AO3 is because, once the works have been deleted, it's nearly impossible for authors to claim ownership of their works in case of the works being stolen, used or re-uploaded without authors' permission).

Know that these negative comments from spam bots do not mean your works are "bad" in any way! They leave the same copy and paste script on various fics, because they want authors to feel discouraged, they want you to delete your works so they can maybe steal your works later without you being able to strike them with copyright violation once the original fics have been deleted.

How to tell if a comment is spam? These bots are always vague with their comments. They never include details from your fic (such as characters' names or specific scenes from your work) in their comment. They're being vague because they're leaving the same comments on various writers' works, various fics, various fandoms without reading the actual works.

Report these comments and move on.

I know how much a rude comment can affect an author. But please always remember that they just copied and pasted the same comment, same script onto your fic like they did dozens (if not hundreds or thousands) of other writers. They never even read your works. They're bots. They just want you to delete your fics so they can safely steal them.

Don't give them what they want.
