(It's from my unpublished fic where Graysen decides to roll with the punches and just... also marries Lucien. AKA Elain has two hands)

Graysen shouldered open the door to the old manor house his father had gifted him, followed closely by the man. 

“I will not allow this. I cannot even begin to list the way in which this flies in the face of everything I’ve taught you, boy.” Lord Nolan hissed as Graysen slung his cloak off. From what he could tell, the furniture needed some dusting but would otherwise be quite functional. 

“Good, because I don’t wish to hear it.” He moved to step further into the house but was stopped when his father's hand wrapped firmly around his other arm, “I forbid you from going through with this, Graysen. Elain, I could have learned to deal with. What happened to her was tragic, and I would have understood if you decided that your love for her outweighed what she has become. But to welcome two faeries into this home?” Graysen jerked his arm free and straightened his shirt. “It’s not up to you to forbid me to do anything here. This home was a gift. You are a guest here, so I suggest you start acting like one. I will not be pleased if you speak harshly to either Elain or… Lucien.” 

The name felt odd on his tongue. Similar to the weight of that extra ring on his finger. The first had felt natural, a comfort and tie to the love of his life. This second one was still so new. He wasn’t sure what to make of it all yet. This idea had not been quite thoughtless per se, but certainly desperate. He didn’t want to lose Elain, but it was clear that Elain and Lucien were, in some way, a package deal now. If nothing else, maybe Lucien could help Elain deal with his own death one day. He was the only human involved after all. In less than eighty years, he would no longer be a consideration for them. Maybe it was selfish to insert himself in the meantime, but he honestly couldn’t make himself step away.

His father’s finger was in his face now, the older man’s voice warning, 

“I’m telling you right now, boy, if you go through with this, you will no longer get any help from me. Not money, not connections, nothing. I will not claim a son who would submit to the fae after everything they’ve done to us.” Graysen stared at his father’s accusing hand for a moment before stepping around him and opening the front door once more. 

“Then I’m afraid I’ll have to ask you to leave. Make yourself a stranger to me if you want, but do not expect me to welcome you into my home afterward.” He spoke the words firmly, even as they twisted some corner of his heart. He wanted his father to back down, to say he hadn’t meant it, and agree to think on things. But instead, Lord Nolan shoved past him, and silence echoed in the foyer. He shut the door again and took a breath. He’d known this was the most likely outcome of this decision, but he had hoped that his father would see where he was coming from. Regardless… he needed to get things straightened out before Elain and Lucien arrived.

Lucien, Elain, Helion, LoA

Ah... Lucien. My original favorite character. I love me a rakish smartass. You deserve better from the story, my boy T_T

My girl has a lot of potential if people would just let her interact with the plot...

I have mixed feelings about Helion. I think I'd be more attached to him if we knew a bit more about his backstory. We know a bit about his relationship with LoA and what happened to the pegasi but that's about it, honestly. But far be it from me to ignore a charming man with thick thighs, he is exactly my type, I fear.

I've had two different fics where the Lady of Autumn was a major player, and she's such a non-entity in canon that she ended up being different in each one. I hope she gets some canon development, but until then, I'm pretty neutral on her

Kanthony Sleeping Beauty Au as a little treat

I just posted about how I develop ocs and headcanons and I've done enough with Zamira that she basically counts for both

So, this is Zamira. AKA Azriel's mother as she appears in Shadows Linger. Zamira lives in Rosewood, a town in the Spring Court that grew up around a lord's old home. The manor known as Rosehall. It's currently home to Zamira, her husband Jalal and her stepchildren Sona and Mirza.

She's a very practical female and doesn't maintain a staff for the house because she has the money to sustain a life for herself without working and working on the home herself gives her something productive to do with her time without having to answer to anyone.

She's very affectionate with her stepchildren, eager to give them a mother figure, yes, but also to experience the things she didn't have a chance to do with Azriel when he was young. She wants very badly to have a happy family, and is trying very hard to convince Azriel that he has a place in it even if he struggles to accept it.

Since you create OCs too, what do you think is the difference (if any) between developing head canons for canon characters that you want to write about and developing OCs?

Since my fandom ocs are built out from concepts my process for headcannons is basically reversed if that makes sense?

Using Cordelia as an example, her whole deal is being a demi-fae woman who is new to Prythian after being raised in the human lands. I have the most interesting bits about her written down before I start writing out story beats.

But with an established character I have basically the opposite setup. It's all story beats and I have to kind of apply something interesting to fill in the blanks.

Tldr: my OCs start from the interesting bits, headcanons for Canon characters are more like finding a satisfying bridge to a gap in a character's backstory or characterization.

Do you have a process for OC making?

Most of my fandom ocs start off a concepts that I can't really apply to a Canon character.

My most recent posted example would be Rhiannon who expanded from the implications of Velaris having notable brothels and slums despite being this idealized city. The death of and the subsequent failed investigation of her sister and the way her former in-laws use their own wealth and her damaged reputation to drain her savings and keep her nephew away from her despite her being his legal guardian were all ways to examine the kinds of things that have to get brushed under the rug if exploitative businesses were allowed to exist in Velaris. (Azriel's Spring based stepfamily was developed in a similar way. I could make a whole separate post for them tbh)

From the basic concept I try to draw them a few times to experiment with their appearance and do some sample writing to get a feel for their personal character. Most of that writing goes unpublished but occasionally I'll slip a bit into their stories if it fits.

Sometimes I'll fill out a questionnaire if I'm having trouble but normally if I'm having that much trouble the character ends up getting scrapped in the end anyway
