Verse the Chameleon

Verse is a tube baby, Silver and Espio's son. He was created in the future, since that sort of technology is more reliable in the good future than the past (or at least, so Silver says!). It was a very long nine months that Silver and Espio had to spend apart while Verse was growing, but it was all worth it when Silver came home with him in his arms.

Since he was born, Verse has spent his whole life in the present day. Silver and Espio both live in that time, all his friends are from then, he goes to school then; he doesn't have any need to go to the future! But he can't help but wonder what it's like. So many possibilities... he'd even be interested in seeing a bad one, out of sheer curiosity. Silver is always saving the world from a bad future— Verse wants the chance to do the same!

Verse is kind and caring, though a little socially awkward. He can't always tell whether or not someone is joking, and it's made for some tense social situations; he just wants to make friends, but it's hard sometimes! Most of the time, though, he's just happy to be involved in whatever's going on.

Verse loves to write stories! He's always coming up with new ideas for characters and worlds, and he can often be found infodumping to his friends about them. He'll talk for hours about them if he's given the chance!

Verse inherited both his parents' powers: Silver's psychokinesis and Espio's invisibility. The psychokinesis in particular is very useful, given his asthma; if he ever doesn't have the physical energy to move quickly or just needs to take a breather, he can use his mental energy instead. Of course, his headset helps with his disabilities as well; the front of it acts as a respirator, and the top of it acts as hearing aids (he's mostly deaf). Don't worry, he can still breathe without it as long as he doesn't physically strain himself; it's just easier if he keeps it on.

Rift the Jerboa

Rift is confident, determined, and most of all ambitious. If he has his sights set on a goal, he’ll stop at nothing to reach it. That translates well into his athleticism; he loves rock climbing, and no matter how his limbs burn when he’s on the wall, he’ll keep pushing forward. There’s nothing more devastating than when a route he’s been working hard to climb gets reset into something else, so he avoids that by making it a goal to send each route on the same day he starts it. He’s partial to bouldering (that is, climbing without a harness); he tried climbing with an automatic pulley system, and he found the routes comparatively easier, so naturally it wasn’t long before he went back to the bouldering wall. After all, if he only ever did the easiest routes, could he really call himself a rock climber?

Admittedly, Rift’s ambition gets the best of him sometimes. He occasionally snaps at people who are just looking out for him by telling him to take a break here and there. Even Rift himself admits that if he didn’t meet Coffee and Lapis, he could easily have gone down the wrong path. That certainly isn’t helped by his home situation; Rift’s father is quite the expert at making others fear for their life just by existing around them. Rift learned to be confident and ambitious as a means of coping. If things had ever gone too far at home, Rift’s life would have turned out very differently.

hey gang. so you may have noticed how often recently I'm going "oh just give me another week I promise I'll be back next wednesday" multiple weeks in a row. unfortunately this semester has been absolutely kicking my ass- between classes, exec responsibilities, other clubs, and cons, I have had very little time to draw and basically no energy when I do have time. and as we get closer to finals, it's unlikely that that'll lessen at all. so rather than continuing to push things off one week at a time, I'm going to officially put ref sheets and stories for the time of your life au on hiatus.

to be clear, we WILL be continuing later on! I still have tons of stories I want to share with you all, and I have every intention of doing so- just not until things are less hectic for me irl. my hope is to be back in late May, but the exact date will vary depending on my summer schedule and how much recovery time I need after classes are done.

in the meantime, feel free to send asks to characters! it might take me a bit to get to them, and they probably won't come with a doodle, but I promise they will be answered eventually!!

so chat! ik ive been off and on for the last couple weeks in terms of posting regularly despite me talking about spring break upcoming and saying "we'll be back saturday/next week/etc". between midterms and con crunch i was seriously in the trenches and had literally no time to do anything but schoolwork and cosplay prep. but the con is over now, and so are midterms, so I SHOULD have more time to draw! I'm going to take today off just because I've needed a couple times to get my bearings together, but biweekly metamy will be back on saturday, and time of your life ref sheets will be back next week. ty guys sm for all your patience, ily <333

I'm still in disbelief that these are actually real- so over this past weekend, I went to zenkaikon and got to meet michael kovach and casey mongillo. and me being me, I couldn't be normal and just get them to sign a print of the characters they actually play, no no no. instead I drew the OCs I have them as voice claims for and got them to sign them. they were both super nice about it and complimented my character designs <33 I'm still geeking out about it, I'll treasure these signatures forever

Coffee the Raccoon

Coffee is a lot of things. She’s a kind friend, a hard worker, a talented gardener, a brave spirit— everyone you ask about her will say something different. She’s the best friend of Rift and Lapis, and she’s actually the reason she and Rift met Lapis in the first place; it was thanks to her bravery that the two of them faced Sage alongside Lapis instead of cowering like everyone else. While the people around her are content to keep their heads down and stick to the status quo, she’s always there to break from the norm, state her opinion, and make a change.

Coffee works as a barista at Dream and Sugar, a popular cafe in Central City. She loves baking and making drinks, but she finds customer service exhausting. At least the managers are on her side when it comes to difficult customers, and she’ll never get in trouble for telling someone off. And after a long day at work, she always has friends she can complain to about it.

If you asked Coffee to describe herself in one word, she’d— well, she’d stare at you blankly for about twenty minutes, all words immediately gone from her brain. But afterward, she’d say, cottagecore. She loves gardening, baking, and journaling, and she’s always down to go to the lake or the farmers market. Her dream is to move to the countryside with her wife and live in a little cottage by the river with a few pet Kikies and a flourishing vegetable garden. But of course, for that to happen, she needs to get a girlfriend, somehow find a way to pay the bills without having an actual job, and figure out how to live with no car and nothing near you. So that’s quite a ways off, to say the least. But in the meantime, she’ll make do by tending to her strawberry patch and staring longingly at all the pretty girls that visit the cafe.

Dr. Sage Robotnik

When word got out that Dr. Eggman was retiring, the people of Mobius were relieved. For decades, Eggman had terrorized the planet with his robots, constantly cooking up some new evil scheme to take over the world. Now that he was gone, surely there would be peace at last. And there would have been, if not for his AI daughter Sage, the heir to his throne. The majority of the strategizing nowadays was already done by her anyway, so it only made sense for him to properly relinquish control to cyber in his old age. And with the empire under her command, Sage has been able to grow her army and carry out large-scale attacks with ease. Sonic and his friends have had to fight harder than ever to keep cyber at bay, with far too many close calls. They’ve been successful so far, but it’s only a matter of time before Sage designs the perfect scheme…

In battle, Sage often physically joins in by using her mech (ref sheet pending). While cy can easily command cybers armies over the Eggnet, the mech allows her to actively interfere wherever necessary and give the Badniks a physical leader to follow and return to.

Lapis the Hedgehog

Using a defective, discarded Shadow Android, as well as some of Sonic’s DNA, Sage created Lapis a few years after Eggman's retirement to act as a rival for both Sonic and Shadow. The few fights it had with the two of them were close, ending with Sonic and Shadow barely winning over Lapis. Neither of them could get much of a word in edgewise during them, but when Sonic did finally manage to get Lapis to slow down, he reached out to it and offered peace, inviting them to stop fighting and join their side. This caused Lapis to question what Sage had taught them—were Sonic and Shadow really the enemy? After a while of watching them, it came to the conclusion that they weren't after all. After a fight with Sage, during which they met Coffee and Rift, it went off on its own. One day, it ran into Silkie, who invited it to come home with her once she realized they meant no harm. Shadow was hesitant about taking in Lapis at first, but Sonic agreed readily, and soon Shadow gave in as well. It wasn't long before Lapis officially became part of the family.

Lapis is heroic and kind, but they have a rather dry and sarcastic sense of humor most of the time. When it's not fighting Sage alongside its dads, it spends its time sprawled out in a tree, skating around to burn off excess energy (which comes in droves), or hanging out with friends.

Their relationship with Sonic and Shadow was a bit strained at first, but they grew closer over the years, and now it doesn't hesitate to come to them for advice. They care about Silkie a lot, but the two of them are also excellent at annoying each other, as siblings do.

Lapis's number one hobby is collecting! They have a collection of cool rocks, sticks, and shells—whatever it's found on the ground. It's dabbled in a few other things, though, such as mechanics, climbing, gardening... anything that someone they're close to is into, they've tried at some point or another.

Its closest friends are Coffee the Raccoon and Rift the Jerboa, who they met while fighting Sage for the first time. The two initially hid from Sage and her army of badniks, but after realizing that the badniks weren't as tough as they looked, they helped Lapis defeat Sage, and they became fast friends. Lapis and Rift also quickly began to develop crushes on each other, but much to Coffee's chagrin, neither of them is willing to make the first move. Somehow, watching them pine over each other is worse than watching them be mushy will be when they eventually do get together.

Silkie the Hedgehog

Silkie is a generally energetic and upbeat hedgehog, and Sonic and Shadow's daughter by birth. She has Sonic's speed, which she combines with rollerblades that have been modified by Tails to work on multiple terrains and retract into normal shoes. She's also an introvert, but not antisocial—she loves her best friends, M.A.R.C.Y. and Verse, more than anything, but after spending time with them for a while, she needs to be by herself to recharge.

Silkie is a solid fighter, but battles tire her out, especially given the public's general expectation for her to become a legendary hero like her dad. Not that she'd ever show anything but enthusiasm for fighting—her positive attitude is typically a mask, coming from a combination of her fast mouth, her general difficulty expressing emotions, and the harm that comes to her loved ones whenever she doesn’t fight. If she ever seems down, it means that something's really, really wrong.

Silkie loves to draw! She draws her friends and family quite a lot, but she especially loves to sit up in a high place and sketch the view. She also draws several original characters, both ones she's made herself and ones Verse has come up with. She frequently listens to music while she draws; her favorite genre is alt-pop, and her favorite artist of all time is girl in red! Not that that means anything. She definitely doesn't think about M.A.R.C.Y. while listening to songs like "we fell in love in october." Stop asking.

Silkie cares about her family a lot. Shadow can be overprotective a lot of the time, and Sonic tends to let her win while racing her, but she wouldn't choose anyone else to be her parents. They're supportive, they're accepting, she can always go to them for help. Anything she hasn't talked to them about is due to her own anxiety, not anything they've actually done. As for Lapis, Silkie prides herself on being the reason they joined the family. Also on being one inch taller than it, which she never lets it forget. Though they tease each other, they mean a lot to each other, and they'll always be there for each other when needed.
