Is Metal-Sonic still kicking around after Eggman and Sonic’s death? If it is, I imagine it would have quite the crisis on what to do now that its purpose in life is technically fulfilled.

"I... Actually.. have no idea what happened to that guy in my current timeline. But he's not stopping me, so."

If you’re just sending your consciousness back in time into your past body rather than sending your present body along with the Time Machine, how do you get back to the present without just waiting? I think I asked that correctly, I don’t have an IQ of 300.

"Just a simple line of code! Well, less simple because it failed the first few times... but with the correct modifications to my time traveling technology, I can basically do a slightly more complicated version of an 'if, then' statement. That being if 'Sonic survives the day', then 'Keep me in this timeline'. And 'else, send me back.' Of course, it's not that simple, but that's basically how it works."

"The first few times, I couldn't get it to work and had to relive my years after his death... but I could finish the time machine a little easier each time, so it worked out!"

Do you really think your brother was going to live very long? His life of near constant danger could only last so long. Plus, he doesn’t seem like the type to want to grow old. More like the kind of guy who would want to go out on one last adventure rather than wait for his body to give up on him.

"Yes yes. I know. The problem is that it was far too soon. He died far too soon. He can live much longer once I save him. And save so many more people... and die heroically still, but it shouldn't have been that day."

“Well, the ‘how’ part just depends on the timeline. A few times he just has a heart attack or some other old man medical problem, or someone or something kills him, accident or otherwise.”

You have witnessed the many times that Eggman tried and failed to conquer the world by trying and failing to bend powers far greater than himself to his will. I would have thought that you would have learned the lesson he didn’t by not messing with forces you clearly don’t fully understand because it never works. Here I thought you were going to grow up to be smarter than Eggman. Was I wrong to think so? You sure are making some of the same mistakes. Are you going to continue to try and break the very universe you live in for the sake of your own selfish desire to defy death itself?

“The flaw about Eggman was that he was short sighted. He only learned as much as he needed to about his next ‘big plan’ messing with a new force each time instead of improving the old one. He never learned from his old mistakes and instead made new ones- but I’m not like that. I will learn how to understand it. I will learn much more than Eggman had ever bothered to. I am getting better, alright? Each time I fail, I get back up again, and I will keep trying, fixing my past mistakes and making a better plan. And it’s… it’s working. I’m sure.

Hey Tails, just a little curious; I noticed your, well- tails were a bit.. weak. Not to offend you, but how long has it been since you used them?

“Technically, it hasn’t been a while since I’ve used my tails. But it’s not exactly mine. You see, I’ve spent a lot of time using my tails while I had been in possession of my past self, but unfortunately, that doesn’t transfer over to my present body. So, it’s only been a day—maybe less— since I’ve used them, but technically also… hm, around a year, perhaps. I won’t bother to count the exact time.”

This probably answers itself, but does Sonic dying every time you try to fix it ever take a toll on you? Does it ever become too much or do you just keep trying?

“Well, it used to! Now it’s just kind of routine. A couple times my mind threatened to give out but you just have to condition it to stop affecting you.”

How long have you been trying to bring back Sonic? Have you ever gathered up all of your findings from your previous attempts so far and sent them back in time to your past self who had already invented a time machine? That way your past you wouldn’t make the same mistakes and could try new things instead. You could probably repeat this process forever until you bring your brother back.

“…For a while. And well, my method is that I send my consciousness back to my past self. Of course, I would have a different and improved plan for each attempt. If it fails, instead of wasting time staying in that timeline and living everything over again, as well as building the time traveling technology again, I would just send myself back to the present and then try again. So, not quite.”

MASTERPOST + INTRODUCTION

Sonic died. Officially, this time. It was the single most tragic thing to have happed to the world- at least, that's one way to see it.

Tails didn't take it too well. The poor fox had a hard time dealing with Sonic's permanent demise... but then he thought: What if it wasn't permanent? Thus begins the mission- life's goal to bring Sonic back... or make it so that he doesn't die at all.

Foolproof plan, right?

So why doesn't it work?

Every time Tails goes back in time, over and over again, Sonic just dies, over and over again, and he doesn't understand why. He could try something different each time, and yet the outcome is always the same.

But it'll work eventually. He's sure of it. Trial and error, right? He'll try as many times as it takes.
