CYA Mindanao Conference 2014: Chosen, Sent, Joyful
Every year, Christ's Youth in Action would go around the different chapters in mindanao to host the annual Mindanao Conference. it's a 5-day gathering of brothers and sisters of CYA from Davao, Malaybalay, Maramag, Cagayan de Oro, Iligan, Tanggub and Zamboanga.
Ever since forever my parents who were CYA leaders would tag me along to this conference, so this isn't my first time. (i honestly can't count how many MinCons i've joined already) BUT, as usual, God, in all HIS majesty, would always go about surprising me and revealing me new things, new experiences that i hold so closely to my heart.
This year's theme was Chosen, Sent, Joyful. through the mincon i was able concretely feel that despite my shortcomings and despite falling short in my commitment for a couple of times and failing the Lord, my qualification is still in the fact that GOD has chosen me despite all odds. and as the saying goes, "He doesn't call the qualified, He qualifies the called."
the whole experience really left a dent in my heart and inspired me to do great things for the Lord. even things, i can't imagine before that i will really be able to do!
in dire need to share to you the awesome experience, i'm gonna share to you some photos! though, believe me, rumagging throught the countless albums and photos, trying to look for my face is dead hard! i was part of the documentary team, and i was assigned to take the videos. so, most of the time, i'm not included in the photo ops... but hey! still there were a few nice ones that i found post worthy! here they are...
First night after the opening mass. Blessie, Nika, Adele and I snapped a photo in the photobooth!

I turned 19. That's what's up.
So... i blow candles every April 6 and just few days ago i blew some again! yup! 19 years of experiencing God's great bliss!
it was even very amazing because the day of my birthday was the last day of Mindanao Conference, an annual gathering of young people from all over Mindanao who is part of the Christ's Youth in Action (a national catholic movement which i'm part of).
after the celebration of the Lord's day, at about exactly 12 midnight, everyone (about 200 plus people) counted down from ten to zero and then greeted me a loud and joyful "Happy Birthday". ofcourse, there were pictures after that and A LOT of people greeting me. and i thought that was it.
to cut the long story short. i got changed to my sleeping clothes and was getting ready for a loooong night because i had to edit an on site video, when my friend, chai, peeped into my room and then everyone started singing Happy Birthday again and there were cakes, balloons and banners. across the big staircase, more people were there gathered, and the brothers stood up as if they were "soldiers" and singing Happy Birthday in bass!

icing all over mah face!

since we were in camp, it was difficult-ish to find balloons and all the other stuff. i was later told that they inflated the balloons themselves! awwe. if only i could keep it forever!

after they did that surprise, there was a little honoring (telling the celebrant all the good things she/he has done). and it was very funny because everyone who had to honor, was compelled to be in "aiana mode" (aiana is my nickname). and to those who know me well, i am a very hyper, very conyo (as they say) and a radio junior jock.
so everyone who honored had to say their honoring in either a hyper, conyo or a radio jock way. and well, i enjoyed it pretty much!

brothers and sisters, from CYA-CDO

Adele, Ate Juvy, Moi, Camille, Sandra and Fia! lovely lovely sisters right here!

yeah right, ate kai! >:D

Hashtag Selfieeee!

my housemate, ate aiza!

the day of my birthday, i woke up really late and had to rush things since there was a closing mass for the MinCon. coincidentally the priest preciding was a priest very close to my parents and who was able to watch me grow, so he also greeted me during his homily and stuff.
my leader, ate juvy, asked me what i wanted to do after that. but i just said that i didn't want anything much because i was already pretty much contented and joyful. little did i know that she collaborated with my mom and organized this intimate party and continuation of the honoring.
my forever creative mom, prepared this budol feast!

Fia and Mar, two very hyper sisters!

Staffers ate Merlene and Ate Cza.

Bambam and Adele.

My Action Groupmates! Sandra and Camille!

My leader, Ate Juvy!

Daddyyyy!

Moooom!

Everyone with my ama (grandma)!

thank you for making my day! i am unbelievably joyful!
(i'm still on the process of gathering up photos, so i'm hopefully adding some more if i get to find them already)

Here's to a Daily Adventure!

"Life is a roller coaster ride." I'm more than sure you've heard it somewhere. Well, i have! and found it so-so. i didn't bother to even think how and why.
If there'd be times that i think of my posts and and painstakingly conceptualize shoots or typography.. i swear. this one isn't like such. i was just going to post a status in facebook of how i felt, when i realized... this could be a post worth sharing! so here i am, finding myself in front of photoshop and tumblr, thinking of words to say. but give me a minute or so, and hear (or read) me as i say why i spent minutes, delaying my sleep and thinking on Life being a roller coaster ride... and how and why.
"Sometimes you're up, sometimes you're down." Living a couple of years in this jungle called life. i know you know this saying like the back of your hand. but what surprises (and scares me a bit), though, is how abruptly you could be in the top at one point and be down at the bottom in no time. Life is impalpable. Oh, sure it is. And if not for it's impalpability will it be really predictable (like a couple of pinoy tv series. oops! i watch pinoy tv series. but i just can't find a more parallel example than this. no hate). But really, because of life's natural property of unpredictability, uncontrollabillity, like such of a roller coaster ride, it makes it exciting.
Let me ask you a question. Why do we ride a roller coaster? It's either because we want to or probably someone forces or encouraged us to do so. Whatever may have you, the point is, You finally decided to be in it. In conformity to life, sometimes, we end up being in a situation, good or bad because we decided to be in it. And because you did, it is expected of mature-thinking individuals to bring it on and... enjoy the moment?
Finally, just like a moving roller coaster, life never just stays at one point. it's either you're up going down, or down going up, but never at only one direction and no elevation nor otherwise. but hey! a key to unlock a secret is that very word bold and italicized.... moving. To keep up with life's pace and to experience your next "up" you have to keep moving.
Friend, life is your daily adventure of a roller coaster ride. and here's a choice you have to make: it's either you close your eyes and be forever scared, only rooting for it's ending OR you enjoy the ride and make every moment count. Choose the latter, though! *pompoms in the air*. x

A Fearless Vagabond of The Wind

"Whatever happened to Amelia Earhart? Who holds the stars up in the sky? Is true love just once in a lifetime?"
I'm pretty sure you've noticed by now that this song's familiar. Yup, this song was Someday We'll Know by Mandy Moore. But who is Amelia Earhart? and why does she matter?
Honestly, i first learned about her from that song years back. She was too intriguing and i can't stand not researching about her. Well, what we all commonly know about her is that she's the first female aviator to fly solo in the Pacific Ocean, and who died as she attempted to circumnavigate the world in 1937 (her death is a mystery that no one knows until now).
Surely we've heard a lot of stories about firsts and people who mattered, but personally i find her very striking and moving because of her passion for dreams. She kept her passion for adventure ablaze in her heart, the adventures she has been dreaming of from her earliest years, and fought for it until her last breath.
She was a brave woman who fought against the odds and broke the stereotype that women can't do much as compared to men. No wonder she's been hailed as one of the pioneers of feminist movements, and remembered up until this generation.
"To keep going, I more or less, mortgaged the future. Without regret, however. For what our future's for?"-Amelia Earhart
Fearless. That's another word to describe her. Contrary to what you might be thinking right now, she too had her own share of downfall, disappointments, people giving up on her and her own mistakes. There even came a time that she was told that probably her enthusiasm outweighs her ability. But she didn't stop there. She was as willing to trade her everything for that one single thing she was most passionate of, flying.
Amelia Earhart (1897-1937), a pursuer of dreams, a vagabond of the wind and a concrete example that dreams aren't just meant to be followed, they are to be chased!
How about you? Thinking of that freelance job you've been dying to put your hands on? Or that opportunity to make your passion or talent to be your source of income? Or have you been lately so overwhelmed of the thought of trailblazing, and taking a new road different from the mainstream path? Friend, whatever keeps you from doing what you love, what you are most passionate of, i pray that you will soon overcome. May we all learn from Amelia as she said, "No borders, just horizons, only freedom." And just like her, i think that dying because you've lived your dreams is better than dying but not living it at all.

Every Little Girl's Wonderland
after dinner, my friends and i decided we need another place to stay. between ice cream and milk tea, milk tea was the better/healthier option. after how many minutes and a lot of pointing fingers as to who should decide where we'd go... we decided to go chingkee tea.
i brought a camera then, and chingkee was about to be closing so there were less people. so my friends and i started taking photos. though, believe me, it was not part of the plan! it was more like the "hey, you pose there!" kind of impulsiveness. but i am the most thankful because if not for that impulsiveness, there wouldn't be photos to post.
wooo! i just love my awesome supportive friends! need i say more? :)

Hashtag: Medyo drama si girly

look at the cashier's headband! gaaaah! i wanted to borrow it so badly!

Ze Chandelier

here's to the awesome company of impulsive, supportive friends! ate mia, kuya rags and clint! <3 (the team minus kuya jl, because he couldn't go with us that time).

almost all photos were taken by Clint, who despite finding my camera really hard to set, still managed to take really goood photos! hands down, bro! thankies a bunch! :)

Junior Jock: On Air For An Hour
You see every weekend (Saturday) that i'd go to the magic 89.3 radio station, i get hyped up, excited and at the same time nervous because i have no idea what we are to do in that very day. So, last saturday, the moment i arrived, we were told that we will go on air for AN HOUR! i was like, "What? i just had a 10-second adlib a week prior to that and felt awesome. and now one hour?"
Mixed emotions, mann! i was giddy with excitement, but was absolutely nervous. i knew i had no time to take all the emotions in as we were only given an hour to prepare ourselves and think of a segment. ONLY ONE HOUR!
good thing, we were to do it with a tandem. so tadaa! Meet Junior Jock Gari! my first tandem-ever. the prep time was nerve-wrecking. the fastest one hour ever! but she's cool and we easily got along, so the next hour of air time with this awesome lady was just plain awesome!
forgive me of the low quality photos! it was real business this time, so we didn't have much time for taking good photos. so i just made do of selca (self-cam)... our peg shot, though!

what's cooler is that even if my parents and some friends were not in cagayan de oro, they were still able to hear me through livestream! (THANK GOD FOR LIVESTREAM!) if ever you'd want to listen to us, though, through livestream next time, click here.
after our one hour air time, it was when i got all relaxed. relaxed enough to take selfie shots with the funky bunch!

and the rest of the junior jocks!!! listen to us every weekends? saturdays and sundays...

ze junior jock girlies! that's jonah, gari, jessica, me and louisse!

after doing our thing at Magic, the junior jocks and i went to Centrio but i didn't stay too long because i had to meet with my friends. meanwhile, while i was heading out the mall, i realized the view was stunningly beautiful. good thing, my handy dandy baby alpha (my camera) was with me so i took a photo of the sunset. HASHTAG: NO FILTER!!!

it was a really happy day all in all! can't wait for the neeeext!

Saturday
The same day I got to air for the first time, I went to the concert by the Development Communication Sophomores in centrio. And for the record, the long dress isn't in memory of Chichay (got to believe). It was only the i-wanna-wear-something-different kind of day.

haggard, though.

after watching the concert, we ate dinner and then took some photos. meet my friends! (from left) kuya rags, ate mia, clint, and kuya jl. no, they're not my classmates. we're all development communication students except clint who takes up business administration. kuya rags, ate mia and kuya jl are DevCom officers but they were nothing much to me back then but just co-officers. until last month, we were preparing for our activity Operation Shoebox. that's where ate mia brought clint. i don't know how but ever since that day, we became friends... and the rest was history! :)
oh wait, have i mentioned how awesome they are?

Junior Jock: First Time On Air
So I went On Air for the first time! Oh please! I cannot think of what more to say. I'm still stoked until now.
But okaaay for blogging sake... *wrings mental juices*
Well, if you guys have seen my instavid, you'll know that I chose the song If It's Love By Train (if you haven't heard of that, do yourself a favor, listen to it. Such a beautiful song) and since it's magic 89.3's thing to utilize the intro parts of the songs to adlib (so that our listeners get to listen SONGS and not too many adlibs), I had to fit my adlib in 10 seconds! Not to mention that I was given three minutes to prepare EVERYTHING, the words I was gonna say, prepare the song, set myself for the nerve-wrecking (atleast for a first-timer like me) multi-tasking that I need to do once i'm on air.

So there, I went on air. I was excited, very. Nervous, can't deny, though! But man, the hype that I got in the seconds that I was on air for the first time! See that awkward smile? and that mann-i'm-serious kind of look? haha

I'm panicking in the inside, okay?

the yay-i-did-it face!

A billion thanks to junior jocks Gari and Migs at large who took my photos and videos. (tears of joy) without you guys, there would be no video, no photo to blog and to show my parents (my parents are in iligan so they can't hear me), so thank you guys! I am eternally grateful!

Okay. I'm going to spare myself of the embarrassment and will share my first ever adlib in magic 89.3 last saturday. I had 10 seconds in the clock before If It's Love by Train plays... and had to fit everything in it. Woo. We all get first-times, right? Like who doesn't? :) blogpost within the week in www.tinkercarmz.tumblr.com #juniorjock

Chasing Dreams: Junior Jock

A week ago i posted that i joined a junior jock program by the Magic 89.3 radio station in Cagayan de Oro City. and i just felt that it's imperative to share this day with you guys!
i arrived at the station at past 2 pm. i rode a taxi (again) going there because i have no idea what vehicle i would ride to take me there. and since the call time was 2 pm and i was the paranoid newbie, i didn't want to run very late (that would be embarrassing). so yeah, i arrived at the station to find out that only one jock has arrived yet. while waiting for a while for the others, i chatted with some of the dj's who were there. the past week i was the silent-i-don't-know-anyone-therefore-i-should-not-talk person (or at least i thought i was being silent then), but this week was chill. i realized that they're so cool and friendly! we talked about few stuff in school (since some of them was from Xavier University too) and anything under the sun!
the training officially started with an air check. we had adlibs (intro-ish statements that dj's say) and then we were made to read a news article and a showbiz article. the challenge was to be as personal to the listeners as possible and not dragging. of course this was our first activity, so i got nervous at first. but a big thanks to dj lexter, who was very kind and accommodating, he helped me out and it was a wrap!
the next thing we did was to know about the basic software what-to-do's. we were taught about how the mic works, how to load the songs and lots of other technical stuff!
today was really fun!i could say that after this activity, i became more enthusiastic! i heard there's gonna be lots of cool stuff happening ahead and i'm just simply stoked!
all this for now, guys! this has been junior jock carmela! stay tune! (haha naks! char lang!)

Rebel Black Day
Part of the Development Communication Week 2014 celebration, everyday (for one week) we got to be exempted from the uniform policy and everyday a color-code is implemented. Here's my photo for the Rebel Black Friday all taken by my good friend Keizer Casio of www.keicasio.tumblr.com, check him out!
the "shoot" was unplanned. after our 7:30-9:00 am class, it was like, "hey let's go to a roof top. the rebel outfit would look good with it." and there, the rest was history.

the put-your-hand-in-your-head is an ootd-imperative.

Geeky Yellow Day
Part of the Development Communication Week 2014 celebration, everyday (for one week) we got to be exempted from the uniform policy and everyday a color-code is implemented. Here’s my photo for the Geeky Yellow Thursday all taken by my good friend Keizer Casio of www.keicasio.tumblr.com, check him out!
while the whole school wore the XU uniform, the DevCom people gets to wear the color of the day. (yellow for thursday) okay, i cheated. what i wore wasn't REALLY yellow. it was dirty white. but thanks to my powers, *evil laughs* i kinda convinced-ish the guard to let me in. although, it was a struggle to go out of the gate thinking all the explaining i have to do again to the guards to let me in without getting my id. cheers to doing anything for the love of fashion! *cheers*

i borrowed glasses from my friend, Chai because i wasn't willing to pay for one yet (saving up for lotsa stuff on my list). and i don't look good with it (boohoo). but it helps me achieve the geeky-ish look, so yes nalang. for the day. :)

my handy dandy bag that fits my while cabinet in it.

a humongous thanks to my friend, ze keizer for helping me out to achieve my ootd photos. i am forever grateful. :)
