People love to throw the word racist around. Saying you can’t comment on a post because you’re not a person of color isn’t racist in the slightest.

Now, if I disclose to a white person about how I get treated like a dog because of my dark skin and that said white person says something trying to “justify” the person treating me like a dog only because I’m a dark skinned black woman, then yes, I will side eye that white person. While yes, anyone can talk about racism, your opinion about how I feel and what I go through as a black, dark skinned woman isn’t needed and shouldn’t be added at all. Even a person who’s light skinned can’t comment about what I feel and what I go through, simply because you will NEVER be able to understand what it’s like to be the victim of that specific kind of abuse. Same thing with me when it applies to anything outside of being what I am

i don’t care about how taylor is reclaiming the snake. y'all give this girl praise for absolutely everything she does. i love her music and i think she is incredibly talented but there was so much important conversation about social issues at the VMAs and y'all brought up this TIRED convo about taylor yet again. if you like her, great! if you don’t, great! but please for the love of god stop silencing important performances from hardworking POC to talk about taylors single. 
its really frustrating when white artists/their fans talk over artists of color (literally and figuratively). (also while we’re on the topic of the VMAs and white artists: ed sheeran did not deserve artist of the year. i love him and have seen him in concert but man they did kendrick dirty in that category.)

I don’t like when people say “you’re X so you don’t get to have an opinion on issues that affect Y”

So, you don’t want anyone outside your group to help? You want everyone else to just shut up and leave you alone? Because I’ve seen many people say “just because it doesn’t affect you doesn’t mean it’s not an issue” or “if you sit back and say nothing you’re on the side of the oppressor” etc,.

So, do you want others help or not? Because Y people get mad when ‘non Y’ people express an opinion on Y related issues, but also get mad when ‘non Y’ people do nothing to help.

I, for one, will always express my opinion about anything I like, whether or not it has anything to do with me. That’s just how I am. You are by all means allowed to disagree with me, but that doesn’t mean I’m not allowed to speak. I wouldn’t have an opinion about something if it wasn’t important to me, and I’m sure the same applies to most people. So, when someone voices their thoughts or opinions, perhaps instead of telling them that they’re invalid, talk to them about why they feel the way they do. Because if we never have open discussions, nothing is going to change and nothing is going to get solved.
