Dark Crystal Verse Headcanons
There is a beautiful thing that happens when you have two very similar, but also very VERY different muses. There comes a tendency to compare them, or work with them in each other’s universe. Once I picked up Deet, I also started to court the idea of a gelfling Six, and with that came plenty of headcanons that I want to share! So, with that being said, I have a nice big list of headcanons here while I feel out this verse.
Note: I am still fairly new to working in the Dark Crystal lore, and I am definitely still learning! I am all up for discussing things I might have missed, or overlooked.
-”Six” in this universe is still a self-given nickname. You’re a little more hard-pressed for names and nicknames when you’re a mute, and for the sake of simplicity this gelfling has chosen a number as her namesake. Her real name is unknown and forgotten.
-”Six” is an abandoned Drenchen childling. The wet, dark basements of The Maw are likely not that far off from the swamp, in their moisture levels and danger, and so I felt it fit that Six would be among the Drenchen clan. She does not know where her family is, and she has been living within the swamp by herself for some time, knowing only that she had been fleeing something.
-”Six” is smaller than typical Drenchen childlings. While it was very tempting to make her Grottan to fit the size ratio, I felt that with their very small numbers it would be best to seek other clans to fit her into. Besides, malnourishment can lead to stunted growth, and if she had been left to fend for herself... it’s not entirely implausible that her lack of balanced diet has lead to her being particularly small for a Drenchen, even for a childling. That being said, what she lacks in size or strength she makes up for in a ferocious will to survive and cunning.
-”Six’s” wings are bad. While I’d imagine it’d take time for childlings to properly grow and learn to use their wings, Six has a particularly battered set. Never having healed right from the altercations she had been a part of, and lacking a proper diet to assure strong wings, her set are practically useless. While a good amount of gelfling can achieve at least a sustained glide, she’d be lucky if she could prevent herself from falling like a stone.
