I have a theory. I think in the present day, Tony and Ziva are no longer together. Why do I think this? In the scene where Tony and Ziva are talking about someone close to him (I think kidnapped Tali) he says to Ziva “I haven’t been here in a while…” that leads me to believe that Tony and Ziva have been separated. (Reminds me of Mulder and Scully being separated in the X-Files revival). I think then they fall back in love and back together on the run in the present day. I think majority of the lovey-dovey stuff that we’ve gotten is them together when Ziva first came back after leaving NCIS in season 17. Again, the reason I think this is Ziva said in her therapy session that her and Tony were on again (I think when she came back), off again (when they separated), and maybe again (because they’re in this limbo of not knowing what they are to each other), and that is what the show will be about, their journey back to each other and back to being on again. I also believe that the scene of them kissing in the daylight with that beach type surrounding is present day and possibly a kiss of them getting back together. Thoughts?

Interesting topic considering the uproar that article had on twitter about them not "being together" in the spin-off. As we all know, this is an adventure/action-packed/romantic kind of story. Which means it would make no sense for Tony and Ziva not to be romantically involved. BUT ✋ hear me out on this.

I completely agree with you. They are hugely complex characters who we all know will somehow end up together, but their complexity is based on the "we can't speak although we know" and "they will but why won't they" aspect of their relationship therefore it makes no sense for me for them to start at the very beginning already fully in love with each other and acting all lovey-dovey.

Producers and actors have touched on the topic that this series could go on for more than one season, and although I feel like that could happen, I also believe they'll be somewhat resolved by the end of season 1, because we're still unsure if the story wraps up or not.

Those who know me know how much of an angst enthusiast and dramatic opiniator I am about the two of them so if they once had consulted my humble opinions about it I'd probably say: make them co-parent Tali and not understand each other until they're forced to work together again and are reminded just how well they fit together. I wanna see a big explosive fight of them trying to resolve this and failing, and being the incredibly dysfunctional characters we all love.

I'm so excited to see what she means with that statement, but hopefully it's all about the "we have to be together, but also it's still all unresolved," so we can eat all their uncertainty and love for another like candy. The "safe-house roomies" bit sure shows us it's going in that direction, and god, my heart flutters merely thinking about it.
